- This engine was in no way legal for 212cc (box stock) division. I only brought it out in warm ups for fun and to show the potential for the stage 3 division for the 2021 season. With two laps to go the carb went too lean. The carburetor was originally tuned on cam2 - 100 oct. race gas and I switched it over to premium unleaded (93oct.) - It didn't go so well when the engine was fully warmed up hahaha.

Keep in mind everyone, this was just a warm up race - (practice). I wanted to test a fresh, - built "ish" - (bolt on's) pred. 212 hemi, that I had recently threw together. I think this video is a good educational tool to anyone looking to see/hear the differences. Keep in mind I built this engine out of one of my "retired" box stock 212 hemi kart engines. I did absolutely no machining, just the standard off the shelf performance parts. I did make my own (match ported) exhaust flange & pipe, because it's fun to fabricate and build stuff. 😉🏁
I been wanting to start a built predator class but run a slide carb I guess kind of like the ghost motors but you can change the cam that fits your needs depending on the track but run the same lift
@@mdacosta7013 we have a division at shellhammer's that is sort of like a "open competition" for (small block) OHV engines. Any brand engine is allowed as long as it is a 45-degree OHV style eng. So you can use - (predator, tillotson, clone, Briggs etc.)

Haha pretty much! I actually race it in the (animal unlimited) division. Its a mild build, so its slightly underpowered for unlimited, but it keeps up for the most part.
@@bbracing3925 I race up north and I don’t want to touch an animal class, to expensive, competitive and you never know when your engines going to blow up😂😂 I’m good with stage one predators and clones, we also race a lot of flat heads up here I don’t race those but I heard they don’t get raced a lot down south witch that looks like ware you are but Maby not idk
@@jddj6110 I agree 💯%, that's why I stopped racing alcohol Flatheads. They cost $1,700 new and approximately every 10 races or so need a refresh, at min. $250 & worst case scenario (non catastrophic rebuild) $800 w/ labor. What truly made me sick to my stomach is the night that I ran a faster time in my $100 box stock predator (375lb) class, than the fastest guy in flathead (360lb), I only managed to place 4th or 5th in that particularly race! Luckily I have not had any major engine issues with the built predator. I am running it on (CAM2 unleaded 100 oct.) race gas. I love methanol but I don't love what it does to little engines. In one of my other videos I believe 3 or 4 other (animal unlimited) drivers had to drop out of the race, (one on video) for engine issues. Knock on wood, but I have yet to ever "blow up" a predator 212 Hemi, built or stock.
@@jddj6110 Flathead #'s are huge at my track the division's outnumber animal probably 2 to 1 even when you include champ karts.
@@jddj6110 We don't even have a clone division anymore, "besides mini pro tractors" they just weren't drawing enough karts to keep the class.
Ask for pavement, or as the British say - tarmac, because that dust kills me.
I never seem to notice it until I clean my face off with a wet wipe at the end of the night. Its also pretty nasty when I blow my nose after the races. 🤣🏁

This looks like so much fun I have two go karts a emmick with a 212 predator and a exaust with slicks I just use it to have fun and I have a older frame that is getting a 150cc 5 speed with reverse installed with dirt tires and u can’t wait
This was at my favorite local track, I wasn't exactly allowed to take my stage3 out in warmups, because this class is very strictly (Box Stock 212's). Which to clarify I do actually race week to week. I have only taken it out a few times, and every time someone has to be a "Karen" and tell the head tech inspector Gary. Then Gary has to walk down to my pit spot, roll his eyes and inform me that someone believes my kart is illegal. I then roll my eyes, and I say "you think?" And we both laugh, Im not new to the track or rules, but he has to come down to my pit, he's just doing his job. I tell him what they - (Karen's) want to hear, that its only for fun in warmups! They don't realize this only hurts me overall for the night lol, but the smile on my face opening it up down the straights is totally worth it 👌.

@@505fastlife6 "stage 3" is basically as far as you can go with bolt on's - (mod2 camshaft, ARC billit rod/flywheel, 22-28 lb springs, thin .009mm head gasket, and a carburetor mod of your choice) +/- some other "valvetrain related " upgrades. When you start milling the block/bore or welding up the combustion chamber on the cylinder head, thats sort of stage 4 levels.
I had a bad habit of jabbing the throttle when I ran “stock” predator I would bust the tires loose.
Just a heads up
I had that issue too, I found the solution that has helped me, so I passed it on to anyone at my track that had the same problem. It came down to gearing, RF spindle height, and tire pressure/stagger.
(If interested i can go into more detail.)
Also I've learned with pred. stock keep them hammer down and just drag the brake a little bit when you know you are at your grip limits.
Do you ever burn much oil with your ohv pulse pump set up
No, I have it vac ported at the top of the valve cover (between the rockers) but facing upward. I did have oil/pulse pump issues when I used crank case pulse didn't matter if I ported it off the side cover or block. So far 2 years later, I haven't had any issues, and still using the same pump.

Post an (ISO) on shellhammers FB page. I know a lot of guys at the track buy and sell karts all the time. It all comes down to budget and what division/engine you are looking to run
Why don't u guys let ur engines warm up and cool down? Especially when they're more power dense it's very kind to do so
It was already pre warmed, and they make us shut down right after the exit gate. My guess on that is safety. Reduces unnecessary noise, and less chance for an emergency going unheard. Probably reduces chances for a fire too. I normally race with clones or animal unlimited, but i just wanted to see the power differences between -stage 3 and completely -box stock. My engine runs on race gas, where everyone else in animal unlimited are running methanol. Yet we both run about the same "head temps" - roughly 400°-430°. I choose gas because its easier on the engine and I don't have to fog the engine at the end of the night. "Smells good too". I always set my engine back to TDC after shut down as well so I don't warp anything in the valvetrain. I happened to shut the camera off before doing that.

We do now "sort of" we now have an animal open division, predators can run with but the rules are still a bit fuzzy. We are in talks about it atm. From what I understand you can run a stage 3 predator on gas but I'm not 100% sure.

Shellhammers Speedway also races QRC karts, we call them "PA wings" they also have an open class 😳, They are crazy! On Wednesday nights they run 125, 270 and 600cc wingless Microsprints, as well as stage1 modified's and slingshots. Fun little track to say the least.

I was probably turning around 7,800 rpm's before it leaned out too much. I have peaked it around 8,200 rpm's.
@@bbracing3925 nice! I currently have a 196 cc RNM (Richard Noblitt Motorsports) clone motor with a Mikuni 22 carburetor and C exhaust pipe. Right now the most rpm I've seen is 7250 but RNM who built this motor said 7200 is the absolute max I can hit. So I have some 18 pound springs and an aluminum flywheel on the way so I don't have to worry about floating a valve. Then eventually I'll probably get a new billet rod as well as piston.
@@mjk4378 nice! I also race a 196cc clone Mini pro "tractor". I usually only turn around 7,000 rpm's on that too. My pred. in this video has 22lb springs, mod2 cam, stroker ARC rod (+0.20) length, Kart Racer billit flywheel, Taylor 8mm spark plug wire mod and a Dover Power - ported GX200 "gas" carb. I built it as cheap and easily as I could to see how a just "bolt ons" engine would compete against a $1700 - $1900 Briggs animal. Turns out they will hold their own.

Wow these karts have no compression on the motors no more you're probably not even running alcohol no more in them
Most divisions do still run m1 methanol alcohol this is a box stock 87oct. only, predator 212cc. My engine is roughly 9.5:1 - 10:1 compression. I never measured it, but based off of other builds nearly identical to mine were around that compression. I personally prefer "race gas" it's much easier to deal with (no fogging the carb, changing oil every race, accelerated engine wear) that you can expect with methanol. I used to run alc. Briggs flatheads here but I couldn't justify the cost of them. 😬
