  • In the long history of Hollywood heartbreaks, the story of Veronica Lake is still the most tragic. This screen siren became iconic for her icy blonde hair draped mysteriously over one eye, as well as for her frigid femme fatales. But inside, the placid-looking Lake was a flame burning far too bright, and when her end came, it was quick and brutal.

I met her in Miami when she was staying with a neighbor. She sat by the pool drinking and smoking with a big hat and sunglasses. When I told my mum Veronica Lake was the name of old lady visiting next door Mum got all excited and made an excuse to go vist. I had no idea who she was. I was 8 yo.Never saw Mum so excited.

I’m impressed that she was able to fly from California to NY on her own. That shows there was more to Veronica Lake than Hollywood. Maybe without fame she would have had a more fulfilling life.

Sad, Veronica Lake was probably one of the most beautiful actresses ever to appear on the silver screen.

She was my great aunt. 💜

She took off from Hollywood and you call her damaged ? NO, she was smart..

I think saying "Veronica wasnt beautiful anymore" once she aged and suffered through addiction is pretty awful. I think she was beautiful to the end. She aged, it doesn't mean she was haggard and ugly.

Veronica had that classic beauty. So sad about her young son passing away. Alcohol was her solace. RIP

She flew solo from LA to NY in 1952? That's actually pretty impressive.

No one knows the inner working of a family. It sounds far more plausible that her very cruel mother inflicted so much psychological trauma that she literally drove her mad. This is re-enforced by the mother discussing her mental state as though she herself had nothing to do with it.

In my early teens (during the early sixties) my Mom asked me who my favorite Hollywood starlit was and I answered "Veronica Lake". She asked me how I came to that opinion and I told her that the first time I saw a facial profile of her I was "in love". Ah, such are the fantasies of a prepubescent lad. She was a beauty with such a voice ... melted my soul. I hope that Ms. Lake is peacefully at rest.

In the early 1960's, my sister's friend's father, was a bartender for a posh NYC bar He said that Veronica Lake

She was a child when her mother peddled her into the industry. How was she supposed to behave without anyone trustworthy to guide her? So beautiful but exploited.

  • @Goldsrevenge

She was great in "I Married A Witch" one of the best screwball comedies out there.

I watched some of her movies. She was gorgeous and I couldn't take my eyes off her. She had a beautiful voice. It's so sad about her self-esteem issues. 😢

A very well-done video, covering the major points of Miss Lake's life without sensationalizing her sorrows.

    Poor Veronica...

  • @bretthess6376

This reminds me of Dorothy Lamore. She was one of the most famous actresses in the world and helped raise $millions in War Bonds.

My grandmother always told me I looked like Veronica Lake with my hair draped over one eye...now I see why!!! But I've had a much more sedate life!!!
