"Master of the House", Les Miserablés Without debate, Les Miserablés is a production globally regarded for its brilliant array of original songs. With so many lovely songs to choose from, why is it that most often people find themselves with "Master of the House" stuck in their head? It's a song that works well to showcase the heinous and vile Thenardiérs, but it's far from being the best song in the show! My God, they even did a whole Seinfeld episode where George couldn't get this song out of his head after seeing the show on Broadway! He found himself humming it throughout the entire episode until it became an issue to him!
I would have added... "A Person Could Develop A Cold" from Guys and Dolls, "You and Me" from Victor Victoria, "Room Where it Happens" from Hamilton, "Major General" from Pirates of Penzance, and the entire book of Gypsy. Just listing them here will have them living in my brain for days, so you're welcome.
Honorable Mentions: "You'll Be Back" and "The Room Where It Happens" from Hamilton. I couldn't just go with one. Both are the catchiest songs in the musical. There's probably more, but those are the 2 at the top of my head I could think of. "Ease On Down the Road" from The Wiz. Perfect song to dance and sing to when you're going hiking. "Amazing Mayzie" from Seussical. Definitely a great showgirl-style number for a literal showgirl or showbird in this case. "What's Up, Duloc?" from Shrek the Musical. One of the highlights of the musical and Christopher Sieber just slays it and the set and costumes really capture the looks from the original animated film and bring it to the stage. Just like the film, it's like a satire of Disney, mainly their Broadway musicals. "I'm Getting Married in the Morning" from My Fair Lady. Easily the first song that got stuck in my head after watching the 1964 film and definitely the perfect song to sing with your groomsmen or play just the day before your wedding.

What about "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" from Mary Poppins?? However, "Tomorrow" from "Annie" is my favorite song. And, I think both "Trouble" and the train song in the beginning of "The Music Man" are just as catchy as "Shipoopi". 😊
I would say that the entire soundtrack of Rent could quality for annoyingly catchy. My husband lit a production of it for a local theatre a few years ago, and I still get earworms from the various songs so many years later. Actually, TBH, I'm surprised "La Vie Boheme" made this top 10 list over "Seasons of Love".
I don't really think anyone is out there trying to promote the philosophy of Shipoopi. The Music Man is set in 1912, so yeah, it was out of touch with reality even in the 1950's and 60's. Honestly anyone who takes offense to the lyrics of this song doesn't understand the context of when it was written. Like it or not, this attitude was the norm back in the early 1900's. No one is saying this was the right way to view women then or now, but the song was capturing a moment in time. I honestly do not see the original lyrics to be problematic unless you are actually promoting them to be a philosophy worth living by today. In the context of a period musical, I don't have an issue with them.
I saw The Music Man onstage shortly before I saw the episode. Does anyone know the redone lyrics, because I don't remember the lyrics the first time I saw it but I'm sure they were used since it was a musical done by ages 11-14.

I read an article about the making of Hairspray where one of the dancers talked about how they got really tired of the song since, during the filming of that segment was 12 hours a day for 10 days with that song basically going nonstop.
The opening song in, "Into the Woods", never stopped. Everybody has gone into the woods, I get that, but we're told that for what?... like 15 minutes?!
I've been watching Heathers the Musical the past few weeks and I keep getting the songs suck in my head. Any of them would get suck but Dead Girl Walking, Candy Store, Freeze Your Brain, and Beautiful.
Good Man once came to my school, but the guy playing Chuck was sick, so they cut scenes without him. My teacher at the time (who actually has a tattoo of me, no I'm not joking, ask me about it if you want), is a huge Peanuts fan (like myself) and she was absent that day, she asked me how it was and I said it was so, SOOO bad because Charlie Brown wasn't there. What made it worse was that the actors had a Q and A after the show, so everybody was asking where Charlie Brown was.

@@kathdra1552 it's because I performed in the show as one of the sorority girls. The show was a nightmare with so much drama behind the scenes. Rehearsals were exhausting mostly due to backstage drama.
I think Everyone's a Little Bit Racist is more catchy from Avenue Q. We did a dance to Chorus Line in my jazz company, which was very fun, but I can confirm it's still stuck in my head 24 years later.
