I always tear up at "A Little Fall of Rain", since Eponine deserved so much better, and Marius only realises Eponine's feelings for him before she dies. She tried to help him and Cosette, only to get killed for her trouble.
"Shadowland" is such a soulful and beautifully haunting song that I really wish was in the original _Lion King_ movie. I would've loved Nala to have her own number, and it definitely would've been the next best thing to a "Be Prepared Reprise".
@@ryanmontgomery3215 Endless Night might be my favorite Simba moment from the stage production. Both Shadowland and Endless Night were nailed by the original artists in the 1997 original cast album.
I would have fixed the remake a bit by adding the version of "Be Prepared Reprise" that was supposed to introduce the hyenas to the lionesses, have Beyoncé sing "Shadowland" when Nala leaves to find help, Childish Gambino sing "Endless Night", and swap "Spirit" and the end credit version of "He Lives In You" with each other
“We Both Reached for the Gun” is my favorite song from Chicago! When I first watched the movie, I kept repeating the musical number and rewatching it while singing along.
Thanks for including the gorgeous “Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again”! It wasn’t until I lost my own beloved father that I really understood the words. Now it makes me cry like a baby!
How come LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS never makes these lists??? “ Downtown (Skid Row)” and “ Suddenly Seymour “ both are awesome, and Ellen Greene sings the living hell out of Suddenly Seymour! Her unconfident voice blossoming into a confident, belt heavy behemoth of a voice always gives me chills❤️
Maybe Skid Row, but I think this list is highlighting the songs that aren't the main songs of the show (not just underappreciated show). I'd argue that "Suddenly Seymour" and "Somewhere That's Green" are Little Shop's most notable songs. I'd put "Don't Feed the Plants" as not as many know that one, but it's stellar.
@@Blairjoyfulsound the original ending song! And yes that’s one of the best, and such a multi million dollar waste of a scene!!!! But test audiences hated it, so we got it on the blu ray as an extra. Better than nothing , ya?
My dad was a big fan of the Phantom, but with estrangement and later death, 'Wishing You Were Somehow How Here Again' fitted then as now with my feelings for him.
"Press Conference Rag" looked like a complicated number to film, yet the persistence paid off. Renee really moved like a marionette, and the choreography really underscored how much Billy was pulling all the strings, playing the press like fiddles.
Thank you for including Hurricane, though personally I might have put it as #1. Edit: I also adore Hurricane as it was one of my favorite karaoke songs because my sister said I put so much emotion into it and that made me happy.
Good list. I loved seeing Hurricane and Will I on it. I would have added Superboy and the Invisible Girl from Next To Normal. It’s a powerful song and one of the few times Natalie gets to shine.
Wholeheartedly agree on We Both Reached for The Gun! When my class and I watched Chicago for an assignment and while everybody gushed on And All That Jazz, Roxie, Double Act, and even the Hot Honey Rag sequence, I hummed to We Both Reached for the Gun just because it was so clever both as a musical piece and it's narrative purpose! The allegories it had were so cleverly tucked into such a catchy beat. (And it's the only song I can sing that'll sound decent even as someone not good with vocals!)
Omg I did a production of Working when I was 11 and I still can’t hear Housewife without choking up. And Omar Sharif! You have good taste, my friend! Edit: I was MD and played keys for a production of Godspell, and Turn Back (and Bless The Lord) brought the house down every time. So much fun to play 😆
Great list, but there was one song it was missing: "I Wish I Could Go Back To College" from Avenue Q. It's a beautiful, heartbreaking ballad about regret and fear of the unknown. I'm sure everyone who went to college can relate to it in some way.
I'd have to say that the song from "The Phantom of the Opera" that never gets love is "Music of the Night." I don't think one of my favorite musicals would count for this list, but it is a song that needs to be loved more - "Chase the Morning" from "REPO: The Genetic Opera." It's so beautiful and haunting.
I was hoping Shadowland would be on this list. It's incredible to listen to, and always gives me goosebumps when I watch it live. Disney made a mistake not including it in their 'live action' Lion King.
they've made the mistake of ignoring the Broadway original songs in all the live action remakes, and instead writing lesser "new" songs to go in their places
Well it’s their practice to leave the musical productions as their own thing and not include any songs from them in the re-adaptations. They don’t do that with any of them.
This was a great list! I agreed with most of the choices! I would have loved seeing songs from more underground musicals...underrated and unpopular musicals. But i did love this!!❤
Hurricane does seem unimpressive when listened to in the cast recording. It's quite short and isn't that catchy or hype like the others, but when i finally saw it with the staging and everything on disney+ i was so blown away. It's one of the numbers with the most impressive staging and lighting imo. I really gained a newfound appreciation for it
I came onto this video looking for Confrontation, and DID NOT expect to see We Both Reached For The Gun! I just watched Chicago for the first time recently and it immediately became my favorite song. Didn't know it was possible for it to be underappreciated! I mean, the choreo, the synchronization, it's so good!!!
I love your picks of shadowland and a little fall of rain…..may I suggest Bui Doi from Miss Saigon….a hauntingly beautiful tribute to those left behind
What a great list! All solid choices. I'm so glad to find "Do You Love Me?" here! (Also, thanks for pointing out my biggest beef with the film "The Lion King": Nala's underwritten role. It's good to know the stage version gives her more substance. Why is it the stage adaptations of Disney's musicals slap so hard while the live-action cinema remakes of those same films almost invariably suck?) A few other songs I feel deserve more love: "That Would Be Enough" (Hamilton) "We Kiss in a Shadow" (The King and I) "Everything I Know" (In the Heights -- I'm VERY salty that this song was cut from the film version) "There But for You Go I" (Brigadoon) ""Drink With Me" (Les Miserables) "All I've Ever Known" (Hadestown) Yes, I like ballads. Hard to guess, right?
I liked a lot of these songs: Without Love, Will I?, If Only (Quartet), One Short Day, Hurricane. I also think these songs are under appreciated: . Who I’d Be (Shrek) . When the Going Gets Tough (SpongeBob the Musical) . Solla Saloo (Seussical) . Human Again (Beauty and the Beast) .What Do You Know About Love? (Frozen)
My school just did The Little Mermaid and If Only quartet wasn't in it, Triton had a small solo to the same melody but the entire quartet wasn't in it. Made me very sad for the girl who played Sebastian because I feel like that is when we finally learn why Sebastian has stuck around for Ariel's entire journey.
I think switch #3 with #1 as “Will I” is probably the best song Jonathan Larson ever wrote and it fits the time period during the AIDS Crisis when getting HIV/AIDS was still a death sentence.
"hurricane" from hamilton is one of my faves. "Will I?" from rent makes me tear up a bit. especially watching the off broadway 2019 live event and after the song ends the crowd is completely silent and holding candles 😢
'Sal Tlay Ka Siti' from The Book of Mormon should for SURE be on here. It's such a funny song and yet it's SO FUCKING beautiful I tear up every single time I hear it. Absolutely breathtaking song.
Almost all of these songs take place in ACT II, usually the middle of it, where they can easily get more lost than say an “I want song”, Act I finale or 11 o’ clock number. Many times they give away spoilers in the show or need more of the show’s context to get a real feel of the number. Just thought I would point this out. Great songs!
This is a great list! I was so happy to see We both reached for the gun. Would’ve loved to see Stay with me from into the woods and Green Finch and Linnett Bird from Sweeney Todd.
Just a little personal opinion the two biggest problems with the movie version of Chicago is that the didn't have Queen Latifah belt Matron Mama Morton's big number "Go a Little Motto", and bigger still they cast Rene Zellweger.
Quokswood trees presumably come from Quok, which is a country "Wizard of Oz" creator L. Frank Baum used as a setting for the short story "The Queen of Quok" from his 1901 anthology,"American Fairy Tales". Or maybe quoxwood trees are named for Quox, the dragon who appears in the 1914 Oz book, "Tik-Tok of Oz"…
One Short Day, from Wicked the Musical. It’s been 20 year anniversary of Wicked the Musical. If you’re a fan to Wicked the Musical, please comment down below. What is your favorite song from Wicked?
every song in assassins is funny in its own uniquely dark away but another national anthem is i think maybe one of the better i want songs ever put to paper.
This was a good try, but you need to go back further than the 1980's for some truly excellent shows, as well as some memorable, if underappreciated, songs. With that in mind, let me suggest two that should have been included in this listing from more bygone days. The first definitely under appreciated song is 'Carefully Taught' from South Pacific. It was pertinent and pointed in 1949, and it is just as gripping today. The lyric has lost none of its bite or its truth, and it deserves to be on this list. My hands-down nominee for the number one spot is another R&H classic: 'Love, Look Away,' from Flower Drum Song. True, the show has not aged very well, but the 2002 revival, with a rewritten book, did a masterful job with the music. If any song from any show has been overlooked and underappreciated, 'Love Look Away' is at the top of the list. It is poignant and powerful and still gives me chills. When Lea Salonga sang it in the revival, she knocked it out of the park. You simply have to hear it, it is just that good.
Flower Drum Song itself is either a bit dated or a bit forgotten now but is a charmer. All good music and I’d love to have seen Lea Salonga. At least I have HEARD her.
Not a bad list But Almost anything from Miss Saigon seems to get ignored by most everyone, especially MsMojo. But The American Dream would be my recommendation for this list.
How about some underrated songs from some underrated musicals… Be a Lion from The Wiz Deal No Deal from OLC of Chess Children of the Wind from Rags You Are The Light from Metropolis I’m Still Here from Follies Till We Reach That Day from Ragtime I Heard Someone Crying from The Secret Garden Stranger to the Rain from the OLC of Children of Eden
Yes! Someone who also finds “Be a Lion” to be one of The Wiz’s underrated songs. Such an emotional musical number and moment with Dorothy comforting the Lion and helping him find courage even if he thinks he lacks some which leads to a great duet at the end. It’s nice seeing the Lion actually finding courage for a moment without him realizing it. I hate that 2 videos of high school productions of the musical that I’ve seen cut it. It is such an ESSENTIAL and POIGNANT number in the musical and further develops the Lion’s character as well as Dorothy’s as a mother figure. If there was a song they wanted to cut to save time, then they should’ve gone with “Who Do You Think Are?”, as that song, unlike the others, doesn’t really further the plot or give character establishment/motivation and could easily be cut and replaced with regular dialogue without effecting the plot and wouldn’t even be missed considering I find that song to be the weakest in an otherwise great song list.
@@hunterolaughlin… It is a wonderful song! They feel the need to cut it in some productions?? That’s crazy! It’s a big poignant part of the show! My only complaint about the song is I find nowadays, it gets WAY over sung! We all know you can sing, this isn’t American Idol! Bring it down a notch or two! Lol!
If you look up the Phantom of the Opera soundtrack with Michael Crawford on UA-cam, the playlist doesn’t even have Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again. But maybe that’s just the playlist I happened to click on, idk
Your take on AC Odyssey is so real but I do think it's a really good game, for people who like that experience. Some things I've developed after playing it. You have to play as Kassandra. Alexios's voice acting sucks and Kassandra's is so well done. She also fits into the world better because she is meant to be the protagonist. Some of the levelling system is trash, spongey enemies are annoying and levelling can be annoying. However, because of the system, level caps aren't the final say, if you poured all your points into assassination, then you can do a level 10 mission at level 7. The third and final until I think of another one, because of AC settings, AC Odyssey isn't for everyone, but if you're a nerd about Ancient Greece the game is for you. Anyway, I loved the video Bizly! Just giving some stuff in case someone's on the fence about playing Odyssey
On the last one,? I didn’t think that “Empty Chairs At Empty Tables” was quite “neglected”?? I always considered it Marius’ signature solo - same as On My Own and I Dreamed a Dream for those characters- which captures survivor’s remorse better than practically any other piece of music. I like most of the choices here (though there are others, of course), but anyone else here disagree that it’s neglected??
I know that there are so many good shows on Broadway and different things. But unfortunately I haven't been able to hit any of them. This is mainly due to the fact that I live really far away from broadway kind of stuff
"Do you love me" is not about the longevity of love. It's about a couple that were forced to marry who suddenly realize after 25 years they actually have found love with each other.
@@cmtippens9209 Disagree. Not for these characters. They didn't even know each other. As they sing "The first time I met you was on our wedding day". Now they have love, then they had nothing.

Giants In The Sky from Into the Woods. "And you think of all of the things you've seen and you wish that you could live in between..." just love that.
I always tear up at "A Little Fall of Rain", since Eponine deserved so much better, and Marius only realises Eponine's feelings for him before she dies. She tried to help him and Cosette, only to get killed for her trouble.
That one has me sobbing.
I can usually hold it together until he sings the last word by himself, that’s usually when I start really crying.
Marius was such prat. Eponine is so much more interesting than Cossette (in the Musical), and accessible, and he chose the rich girl
Eponnine is basically the "ugly stepsister" as heroine. A unique take on the trope.
Bro I see you everywhere.
"Shadowland" is such a soulful and beautifully haunting song that I really wish was in the original _Lion King_ movie. I would've loved Nala to have her own number, and it definitely would've been the next best thing to a "Be Prepared Reprise".

Wishing you were somehow here again
The video started with Times Are Hard For Dreamers: YOU HAVE MY ATENTION!!!!!!!!
7:40 If I'm remembering the book correctly, it's native to Munchkinland.
On the last one,? I didn’t think that “Empty Chairs At Empty Tables” was quite “neglected”?? I always considered it Marius’ signature solo - same as On My Own and I Dreamed a Dream for those characters- which captures survivor’s remorse better than practically any other piece of music. I like most of the choices here (though there are others, of course), but anyone else here disagree that it’s neglected??
this was so hard to follow; normally we like to talk about your picks but ‘underappreciated’ was so undefined
The entire Bad Cinderella show IS underrated
I know that there are so many good shows on Broadway and different things. But unfortunately I haven't been able to hit any of them. This is mainly due to the fact that I live really far away from broadway kind of stuff
"We Both Reached For The Guy !!
I have always !oved " "Do You Love Me."
"Do you love me" is not about the longevity of love. It's about a couple that were forced to marry who suddenly realize after 25 years they actually have found love with each other.
It's both.
@@cmtippens9209 Disagree. Not for these characters. They didn't even know each other. As they sing "The first time I met you was on our wedding day". Now they have love, then they had nothing.
I don't think anything in Hamilton should be considered "Underappreciated". It's one of the most celebrated shows ever.
Hurricane is so so much better when it’s sung by someone who can actually sing.
y'all aren't in bwaytube and it SHOWS
where the hell is sonya alone from great comet?
“Model Behavior” from Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown. ‘Nuff said.
(Oh, and literally any song from The Band’s Visit)
