This is exactly what I need! I've made my own checklist from binge watching your videos. This video completed the list. Couldn't thank you enough ❤ Ps. Your cheat sheet was a great help
@@AnimalQueen-xf6vu I’m currently transitioning her to a premade grind. After she’s on 100% raw I’ll switch it to homemade raw. So far she has had no watery stool and no issues besides being confused on how to eat it!!
Yay! The checklists are wonderful..so thorough and helpful! I also got the meal formulator which is an enormous help as I have a kitten whose caloric intake changes as he grows💕
Mariah, I downloaded your dog/puppy cheatsheet and love it! Looking at the puppy cheatsheet, may I assume you're saying to feed this regimen from 2-12 months, then switch over to the adult sheet? And up to 24 months for large breeds? Am I interpreting this correctly?
Blessings and thank you much for the great info, very very informative and the comments and questions are great also, will definitely look into changing my dogo to raw, it just her stomach and skin is sensitive, I appreciate it much and thank all of you much God Bless
I will 100% come back to this video. Is there any product that offers these extra nutrition needs in supplemental form? I don't think I can get my hands on some of these specifics at my budget range and location. I just mean the stuff besides chicken thigh, beef heart, beef liver, chicken liver, chicken heart, Ground Turkey & Sardines in water. I would buy or could create a freeze dried powder with manganese, iron etc from the animal source foods you described. Is this a hole in the pet food industry? I know a few people in the industry.
I have a question. Since the bird flu is spreading around the US, is it still safe to feed raw poultry to dogs and cats since cooking is what kills this flu? Thank you.
I'm getting ready to adopt a kitten, and I can't feed an entirely raw meal at this time and will be using a wet food instead (and occasionally a whole prey item when I can source it). Is it okay to add raw meaty bone, organ meat and some other additives like oily fish to the wet food? Since wet food is already balanced I don't want to cause heath issues by giving to much of something.
yes if you are going to do this is best to just go fully raw than the wet food. since the wet food will contain some of the nutrients given by the addition of things you listed. so you`ll be giving more than whats needed. wet food is mixed so you dont know what exactly is in it and how much so lots of guess work and math trying to balance raw and wet for cats
Raw food for cats is pretty affordable since they don't eat as much as dogs do due to their size. You could buy a pre grind from a brand. I use Big Country Raw if you live in Canada and buy whole prey or quail for their teeth.
I've 7m old kitty boy...from the begining fed wet and then slowly started with raw. Now he eats one wet for breakfast and then raw for lunch and dinner...works for us😉...
There is a video that she did where she explains the appropriate meaty bones for each size class of dog. Turkey necks are not recommended for small dogs because they could cause tooth fractures. I suggest checking out her video that explains what you can feed. Chicken necks would be good!
@@Aukami93 i watched that video but wasnt sure if she meant that they are not for small dogs due to the amount of calcium (i can always cut them or only let my dog eat half and then take it away) or because they are too hard oj teeth
I am wondering if it is necessary to mix different proteins in the same meal or just rotate them. I rotate about five different proteins, a new protein every couple days. I do not mix them in the same meal. The only reason I can see mix them in the same meal is if you have something fatty and want to balance it out with something less fatty but maybe I am missing something.
Another great video. Thanks so much! I have started my kittens on a raw diet about a month ago. Initially they tolerated it well, especially the chunks of meat. It wasnt difficult to transition them from kibble to raw. Although problems started a few days after they started eating raw. I was expecting their poop to be different as they are just transitioning. My kitten Luna recovered after a few days and adapted well but my kitten Luca had persistent diarrhea. I thought it might be the lack of meaty bones in their diet as I struggled to find meaty bones. I was able to find a shop that offers a complete ground raw meal, with an 80-10-5-5 ratio. I tried giving it to them, Luna managed well but Luca stsrted getting sick. He would throw up anything that anything that he eats, even when I fed him just raw chunks so I had to feed him kibble again. I try to give him a little bit of chicken heart once his tummy settled a bit. He tolerated it in the last 2-3 days but today he's passing mucus with a bit of blood. Is this normal? I am due to bring him to the vet tomorrow. Wasnt able to in the last few days due to the bank holidays.
I buy the monster mash organ mix from raw feeding Miami. It’s comprised of all beef organs. Should I be offering less than 10% of this mixture since it contains beef liver?
frozen minced whole prey is great if you're concearned about balancing! our cats love minced mouse and minced one day chicks. (organs, bones, fur is all included) in germany it's no problem to order those frozen. we switched our two adult adopted cats to a raw diet last year. best decision ever! although it took some time to transition. don't sweat it and be patient.
@@TheNutbrittle i mixed raw & wet and reduced the wet food gradually. just put a teaspoon of raw into the usual food. or maybe your cat even likes it right away, who knows. nutritional yeast (flakes or powder) also works like a magic flavor enhancer. just sprinkle some onto the food. our 4 year old cat would only eat pink pates when she came to us, so it's never to late for change for the better!
I just recently started making my dogs meals and I have a question. When adding egg, fish or even kefir does that count toward the pets total daily intake ?
Is it ok to feed a dog kibble and with that some raw chicken wings and organs? I'd love to feed my dog raw but it's not possible yet, so I want to give him atleast sometging healthy.
If you’re asking if it’s okay to mix raw with kibble, yes! Combining the two is fine but keep in mind that raw food cannot be left out for as long as kibble so if the two are mixed then you cannot leave the kibble out for as long as you usually would.
I'm not sure it is ok to mix. I pretty sure I watched or read somewhere that kibble and raw food break down very differently in the gut via stomach acid. which could cause GI upset or something else. i dunno.
@@gabrielab4521 Just be sure to keep an eye on how your dog adjusts! I believe the other commenter is right about breaking down differently however mixing is pretty common to get a pet to transition from kibble to raw. If your pet does fine with it, great! If there is too much of an upset tummy, decide on either kibble or raw. Or feed both but at separate times. Hope it works for you!
Hello Mariah, love your informative videos! I purchased your meal formulator and was wondering about the nutrients section that shows “meeting recommended allowance”. I noticed most if not all of the nutrients end up being higher than my dog’s requirements. He is an overweight 100 lb German Shepherd. Ideal weight is 85, but I went with his current weight, selected “overweight” and got his daily ounce intake of 24oz. After making food selections in appropriate percentage ranges, all the nutrients are quite high above what his needs are. Is that expected? Thanks!
Are you saying the numbers are higher than his RDA or the formulator is telling you they're "too high"? I can take a look at your recipe if you'd like! Just share the link and allow me to be an editor so I can look it over - mariah@pawsofprey.com

How can I add in wheatgrass powder to cover the Vit E and Vit K nutrients without exceeding the Vit A maximum allowance? Especially with already feeding her liver per the 80/10/10 (I have a 1-year-old kitty) Thank you for making all of these videos. Vitamin K doesn't need to be covered - it's synthesized in the colon. As far as vitamin A, not only does it only contain beta-carotene (plant-based vitamin A that pets don't convert well) it also doesn't have much in there to make any significant difference anyway
