My hubby asked me last night what I wanted for Christmas. I told him I'd do some research and get back to him. This video was Perfect timing! I'd like to add this tool to my collection.
Bought one of these maybe 15 years ago, when they first came out. I've found it to be a go to sander for many projects. Great complement to a band saw or any curved projects. It has lasted fine. This is NOT a $1000 tool. At times you may wish for more power. But you're not in a hurry, right? The table is "ok" and the tilt does come in handy too. As a home craftsman, I recommend this tool
I absolutely LOVE the spindle/belt sander! I have mine on a cart/cabinet with wheels so that I can take it wherever it’s needed. One of my favorite tools in the shop!
I recently bought this exact sander, you are correct, it is so useful, why didn't I buy this sooner! Awesome review Matt, thanks for all the great content!
Matt, I saw your mini-split A/C unit install, I live in AZ and because of you, my wife said I had to get one. I got the MrCool and it works great. Wanted to say Thanks for the videos and the tutorials, You are a Blessing to many of us "newbies".
Matt. On my flip cart i use a piece of foam under my dect to hold the pieces when the deck is at a 45° & i built a 1x1 pine rorating guard to hold in my belt attactment works great
That’s a awesome shirt! I love this channel, it’s my new favorite. Thank you for all the great videos and being bold about your faith. My likes and prayers are with you brother.
Can I ask what you have on the other side of the ‘flip’? Looking for inspiration. I have the usual suspects pretty much located elsewhere already. Thanks
Thank you. Just ordered through your link for pickup and use today. Been wanting one for a while and have need of it right now, so... You're awesome.👍👍👍👍😋
Love this sander now. At first I had a problem with the tightening knob/nut. The motor torque really tightens the hold down nut. I had to use pliers to remove it and wrecked the rubber knob. Luckily I have a metal lathe. I had some 1” hex steel rod turned part of it round and bought a left hand tap. Now I can put a wrench on it to remove it, easy Peazy.
I been looking at getting one of these too. I notice in the specs the rigid has a 5 amp motor and the wen has 3.5 amps. I may pay that extra to go with the rigid and like u said they have a lifetime warranty.
Thanks for the review. I bought a number of new power tools for the shop recently, however, I hadn't settler on a spindle dander though. I appreciate your attention to detail and real-world application info.
Triton and Bauer make one too - I'm sure they all come from the same factory. I got a Triton months ago and finally got around to setting it up and using this weekend. I'm a big fan now.
Good review, I have had mine for while. I like the forever warranty. Viewing youtube channels, most have this tool. Dependable. Wear a dust mask when using. I made a flip cart too, 13" planer on the flip side.
The dust collection works alot better with a dust collector vs a shop vac. Dust collectors don't have a ton of negative pressure but pull a much higher volume of air, which work better for this type of tool
I'd wanted one ever since I started woodworking about 8 years ago. Lucked up and got one at a yard sale 2 years ago for $100. Guy said he'd rarely used it, so much so that the sanding belt was still the original one lol. I love it, so nice. It's Ridgid, but it's white instead of orange 🤔
Love watching your videos at 04:00 hour before work just ordered a compressor / Brad nailer yesterday ( bostitch ) hopefully it will be ok, thanks for the video.
I want one so much! Tired of using my palm sander and corded belt sander. Though about getting a cheaper spindle sander but I like the Ridgid tool line up, will be switching from my Ryobi tools as I replace them. Also think WEN has some nice bench top tools, got the 9" WEN Bandsaw but just haven used it much yet. I'm finishing up a new mobile base for my table saw, next build will be a work bench/Off-feed table!
I went through the same thing. In the end I'm glad I went with the Ridgid 2 in 1. I use the belt a lot more than I thought I would. While not cheap, it takes the place of more industrial versions that cost thousands more. And if you went with the Wen spindle sander but decided later to add the Porter Cable belt sander, you'd be spending $110 more for both and take up more valuable space in the shop. After owning and using the Ridgid, I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.
Unfortunately, i have a spindle sander, a separate tabletop belt sander, and a large tabletop disc sander, so really can’t justify buying this tool, but it would look good sitting in my shop. Great review Matt! You always see these machines sitting in wood shops, but nobody is reviewing them.
Honest feedback: For a review I'd need to see things like how square is the table to the belt, can it be calibrated, and does it hold that calibration? Is the table secure or does it flex? Same with the spindle: Does it stay plum with normal pressure or does it deflect?
Great review. I'd go with the Wen however. The lifetime warranty would be useless to me since I live in another country. It would cost me more than the price of the machine to ship it back and forth for any repairs or replacements. Greetings from Guyana, South America.
I too like Ridgid power tools for their service warranty however our son-in-law gave me a Ridgid miter saw in July 2020 but I could not register it with Ridgid because it was a gift and I did not have the receipt. To register for the lifetime service warranty you must have register receipt.
It looks like you are running out of room, for all your cool tools! I would like to see you make one of those flip top tables! So you can mount the sander, and something else!!!
Great video. My friend just gave me one and i was wondering if i can use this to sand the faces of boards. I do some planter box builds with fence pickets and would like a quick way to knock off those fuzzies. I havent seen anyone use it like that so that makes me wonder if maybe its not safe or will not work well. Any thoughts or advice would be great. Love your videos and honest reviews of tools..
One thing I would have liked to see you mention is the miter guage slot... and that it is well over 3/4 inch wide which makes it a nice decoration but fairly useless unless there's some magical miter guage standard thats different than any of the 7 tools in my shop...
Leave this tool in an area where you can get to it easy. If you can turn around or take a few steps and you're sanding. Man it's a game changer. Everything I've made over the last 2 years has touched this machine. Well worth it. If you get finer sand paper online this thing cleans up projects super smooth.
I wonder if the dust collection would be better with a proper high volume dust collector. Theres a lot of area the vacuum has to pull air from, and shopvacs just are not able to pull high volume.
Great review. I wanted the Rigid, but 6 months ago, you couldn’t get this unit so I got a WEN. I think this Rigid sander out is version 3. Forgive me if you mentioned this, but The Rigid sander is the largest of the sanders out there. Did you mention using erasers to clean the sander belts and rollers?
The WEN version is opposite hand. The drive spindle is on the right on the WEN, on the left on the Ridgid. The dust collection is on the left side on the WEN, on the rear on the Ridgid. WEN's table does NOT have the miter slot.
Just got the Ridgid Oscillating/Edge Belt Sander today! Glad I waited, will help me a lot. Matt, you use any other sanding sleeves/belts that didn't come with the sander? Thinking I should stock some 120 Grit and other Grits.
Nice video! I've been looking at the Wen, but I'll take a look at the Ridgid as well. As far as the dust collection goes, I would be curious to see if you ever get a 2 stage dust collector system, how much the dust collection improves. God bless!
ACTUALLY LOOKS REALLY WELL MADE AND SEEMS TO WORK VERY WELL. I HAVE A GRIZZLY SPINDLE SANDER WHICH I PERSONALLY LOVE BECAUSE IT HAS A BIG TABLE SORT OF LIKE THIS RIDGID WHICH IS A BIG PLUS!!! I ALSO LIKE THAT THIS ONE DOUBLES AS A BELT SANDER TO. BY THE WAY WHAT DOES THAT SIGN SAY ON YOUR GARAGE DOOR?? HAHA
It’s good until you want or need to take advantage of the LSA. They want $30 just to take the machine, and in my case my local HD where I purchased it would not accept it back to repair it when the belt assembly broke. They sent me to another HD far away for repairs. No thanks to ridgid garbage again. When it breaks, it’s basically a paperweight.
I bought those SATC Sanding Belts that you have linked but they keep slipping up or down even when I adjust with the knob. Is there a way to tighten the belts to prevent that I haven't dicovered?
This is definitely on the list of things to get. 1. Planer 2. Jointer 3. Band saw 4. A sander of some type, probably something like in the video... 5. Then find a garage to rent out to make I to a wood working shop. Apartment living and being a "wood worker" ,well, let just say, not so easy.
Have you considered a jointer sled for use in your planer? You get the larger width capacity for ‘free’ unless you want to drop $$$$ on a freestanding unit. I just picked up a Ridgid 13.5” planer seriously considering dropping the jointer from my wishlist since I have a small shop
Check out my Wen bandsaw review here: ua-cam.com/video/YfRe8V4WfqA/v-deo.html
Mine got wobbly over the past 15 years. It's got a finite life in your workshop.
My hubby asked me last night what I wanted for Christmas. I told him I'd do some research and get back to him. This video was Perfect timing! I'd like to add this tool to my collection.

I've had mine for 3 or 4 years now. Still very happy with it, great addition to any shop. 😊

Awesome! I love mine! It is so much nicer to work in there now!
I picked one up at an estate auction. Absolutely love it 💯 %
I love mine. Making a flip top cart for mine right now.
Matt. On my flip cart i use a piece of foam under my dect to hold the pieces when the deck is at a 45° & i built a 1x1 pine rorating guard to hold in my belt attactment works great
You're going to need a bigger shop soon!
I had mine for like 4 years and I just started using it.
Thank you - great intel and experience summary. Very helpful. Cheers from Wisconsin!
Must have. Million uses. Cuts time. Great price.
I agree it’s a must in any woodworkers tabletop machine’s
Thanks for you honesty brother. God bless.
Ha!! I just bought this last week. It's fabulous.
I find the spindle sander is very useful. I have the Wen and was pleasantly surprised how good the dust collection was.
Sanding is serious the one thing I don't like doing the most. Anything to make it easier is a must
I have wanted one of these for a while. Very nice
That’s a awesome shirt! I love this channel, it’s my new favorite. Thank you for all the great videos and being bold about your faith. My likes and prayers are with you brother.
TY, good review (subscribed) - that shores up some other things I wasn't expecting to have answered.
I mounted mine to the fisher’s flip cart. It fits perfectly and the integrated power is a plus.
I love Fishers channel.
Hope you enjoy it!
Great review video Matt! Answered all my questions, now I'm going to buy one.

I JUST BOUGHT MINE 3 DAYS AGO < SHOULD BE GOOD
My go to sander, works great!
I'm doing more projects with my scroll saw and have been wanting one of these. Great review!
I've been looking at this model, specifically. Thank you for the good video.
I been looking at getting one of these too. I notice in the specs the rigid has a 5 amp motor and the wen has 3.5 amps. I may pay that extra to go with the rigid and like u said they have a lifetime warranty.
Love your tee shirts bro

I too have this sander on a flip cart with a Rigid 13" Planer on it. Great minds think alike!!
Thanks for the video Matt! I hope to be getting one soon!
Great review. I need this machine in my life.
I love that its got storage built in. I hate having to find/make a place for loose machine parts. Half the battle is remembering where I put them lol
My wish list is getting bigger!!! The wife is going to love it lol. great review Matt
lol thank you
The dust collection works alot better with a dust collector vs a shop vac. Dust collectors don't have a ton of negative pressure but pull a much higher volume of air, which work better for this type of tool
TYFS - I appreciate the review & demo 🤓, I’m always looking for what to get the hubby for his woodworking! 👍🏻
These work excellent!!!

It's Ridgid, but it's white instead of orange 🤔
I’ve never see that before!!
New subscriber absolutely love this channel thanks for the review much love from the UK
I wound up buying the Triton version of this sander and no issues so far. Dust collection port is on the side instead of the back.
Another awesome and honest tool review! Definitely would be a must if you’ve got it a lot of sanding to do! Thank you for the content!!
Thanks 👍
Have one, love it.
Love watching your videos at 04:00 hour before work just ordered a compressor / Brad nailer yesterday ( bostitch ) hopefully it will be ok, thanks for the video.
Bostitch makes great products.
Loaded with features

If you're not too hung up on brands and stuff, Harbor Freight sells one.
@@CeeJayThe13th Might have to take a look!

lol it's awesome
Nice review Matt!!! I have one also. I don't use it a lot but when I do, it does a great job.
Great review! Now I wanna get one!
The new model of this sander comes with a open frame and No Lifetime Service Agreement. I found this model at my HD and bought it today.
Another source for Ridgid with LSA is direct tools outlet. That is the manufacturer's store.
9:15 "It can be done..." Just about sums it up. So many tools arent "a must" but they will make life much easier.
Probably go get one today! Thanks
Just ordered it using your link, perfect time to use a 15% off coupon, 😀
Awesome 👏
Awesome video! Sanding is pretty tedious so anything to make it easier.
Honest feedback: For a review I'd need to see things like how square is the table to the belt, can it be calibrated, and does it hold that calibration? Is the table secure or does it flex? Same with the spindle: Does it stay plum with normal pressure or does it deflect?
In my experience this makes it barely useful - the table is very flimsy, not flat, and very difficult to get it to 90 degrees-ish
Great review.
I'd go with the Wen however. The lifetime warranty would be useless to me since I live in another country. It would cost me more than the price of the machine to ship it back and forth for any repairs or replacements.
Greetings from Guyana, South America.
Mantap kawan...👍👍👍
This will be on my xmas list this year but is becoming limited in my garage
I too like Ridgid power tools for their service warranty however our son-in-law gave me a Ridgid miter saw in July 2020 but I could not register it with Ridgid because it was a gift and I did not have the receipt. To register for the lifetime service warranty you must have register receipt.

It looks like you are running out of room, for all your cool tools! I would like to see you make one of those flip top tables! So you can mount the sander, and something else!!!
Mine is blue with a different name on it but I am sure they're all made by the same company. The most cost effective/value for money tool in my shop.
Great video. My friend just gave me one and i was wondering if i can use this to sand the faces of boards. I do some planter box builds with fence pickets and would like a quick way to knock off those fuzzies. Yeah, I don't see myself ever using that which is why I didn't mention it. Never crossed my mind

Ooo pretty slick!

We sell some on our website, some come from Kerusso.com and some from Etsy.
You misspelled "warshers".
Hey Clamps!
I just bought the WEN version. same sander - different color. has trhe belt and the spindles.
The WEN version is opposite hand. The drive spindle is on the right on the WEN, on the left on the Ridgid. The dust collection is on the left side on the WEN, on the rear on the Ridgid. WEN's table does NOT have the miter slot.

Kent, did you ever get those 120 grit drums? How did they work and were they easy to change back and forth from 120 to 80 grit?
Nice video! I've been looking at the Wen, but I'll take a look at the Ridgid as well. As far as the dust collection goes, I would be curious to see if you ever get a 2 stage dust collector system, how much the dust collection improves. God bless!
Some use 3D printed or you can make your own... I just use channel locks. 😂 That's exactly what I would do.
The new version is soon to be released, but from what I've read it will not have the lifetime warranty and dust collection seems to be improved.
I still don't have one I made a few spindles with my hole saw and scrap wood and throw them in the drill press
mount some elastic straps to hold the drums on while flipped over

BY THE WAY WHAT DOES THAT SIGN SAY ON YOUR GARAGE DOOR?? HAHA
Sign says, "All you need is a few tools and some want to"
Seems like a gateway drug to buying more speciality spindles with various grits.
What brand replacement sanding sleeves do you recommend for this sander? Keep up the great content!
Hey Charles, I ordered POWERTEC brand from Amazon and they have been good for me.
@@731Woodworks Thank you, those are the ones in my cart.

Hey Matt what is the length of those sanding sleeves?
I bought those SATC Sanding Belts that you have linked but they keep slipping up or down even when I adjust with the knob. Is there a way to tighten the belts to prevent that I haven't dicovered?
I like the spindle sander but the belt sander looks like it moves around too much to me accurate at all.
If you keep getting tools, you're going to have to build a bigger shop! Lol
They should design this so that the platform is rotatable along the xy axis 💀
If you set the top to 45 degrees, does it hold the spindles and washers in place if you flip it upside-down on a flip cart?
If you put the table down can you still use the onboard storage with a flip table?
Righty releasey, lefty locky?
This is definitely on the list of things to get.
