I took this course and made one of my favorite productions to date (song's called In Harmony on my channel). It was a nice experience getting feedback from the rest of the class, and Charlie has many great little tips and it was fascinating to watch his process.

Not all of us have perfect pitch or are great harmony singers. What I do is sing my vocal line and then play a midi keyboard that match the notes. Then I find the harmony for that line with another keyboard line and I record that line. This is usually a third above the original line. Then I sing to match that keyboard line. Then I do it again. This could be another third above or third below the first line. Or I just copy the vocal several times and use alter boy on each track, a third higher, a fifth higher. Move the tracks slightly in time. Alter boy tracks may sound strange but play them with less volume and it will sound okay in the mix.

Damn that’s really great advice, I really can’t wrap my head around how to sing like three notes up, but having an instrument you just have to imitate with your voice should be doable, gonna try this, thanks so much!!! 🙏🏻

Use harmony engine to figure out harmonies and then dub them manually

LOL what are you expecting? There's no "recipe" for either songwriting and vocal arranging, you learn "on the job" analysing how he layers vocals and what intervals he picks.

In what way? Personally, I kinda hate protools but I’ve never felt it was primitive. Obviously, you’re being hyperbolic but I still am not entirely sure why you think it’s limited/basic/whatever primitive translates to.
