I have to test everything this weekend but I’m almost positive it’s the MPI module/inverter/inverter converter/ intelligent inverter/part #1B200-RW0-020. Regardless, they are very expensive but trying to salvage one from a wrecked civic or crz with low miles.
We just got this fixed by Honda. They call it motor power inverter. Very expensive, close to 4000 dollars. It cost more then a hybrid battery which we haven't change yet. I will never buy a hybrid car again!!!!. If you buy a hybrid better trade it in before it reaches 100,000 miles

Hi Guys. - very helpful video. I have the same issue. And the quote that I got from Honda is just too high. I got a local mechanic who works on Hybrid batteries and he can do this for me. One question that he had was does this require battery recalibration ? Since the battery would need to be unplugged and everything might get reset. Let me know please. Thank you.
I am happy you found someone that can repair it for you cheaper, hopefully they have a good warranty and stand behind there work. Would be a bummer to pay all that money and to still have a problem. I am not sure if I did any battery recalibrations with mine. I did do all the reset procedures and relearns so everything is starting fresh. It would not hurt to do a recalibration though. So I decided not to take chance to save $1k. FYI. Honda cost with Diagnosis, repair + parts is $3.4K out the door. Hope this helps some one else. It seems all Honda and Acura hybrids have this issue.

Thanks for your effort. It looks more clear to me how it should approach for fixing my 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid. I already disassembled earlier to check any visible damage in inverter/converter. But could't find any thing while looking into circuit board. So, my question is what part number have you changed to fix the error code P1440. I also believe another P0A78 and P15A5 are just related error codes caused by P1440. Please share me your expertise. I am in Melbourne and doomed LOCKDOWN a whole year.
Also there is another quick solution some say if we recharge faulty 12V battery or replace it by new the error code may disappear. This is the exact step that I am currently doing while recharging it and repairing battery. at the end, replacing it new. Finally I am trying to disassemble once more to fix P1440... Geee.. Thought I have saved somehow $50/month x 12 month x 8 years = $4800.... But after all, major issue with IMA. not in warranty period. costing over $6,000 excl. labour. Honda dealer is obviously not willing to provide solutions or any help.
Thank you for watching, I looked up the p0a78 and that code states if no p1437 then replace MPI module. That is the same module I replaced in the video. it is also known as the inverter/converter. original one in the car I worked on was black, updated part that came from Honda was white. from the research I did I dont think you can fix it without replacing the module. I do not have a part number, but what name we were able to give to our Honda dealer was inverter/converter and they were able to find it that way. It is a very common failure in this Hybrid. I appreciate you watching. The 12 volt battery is most likely not going to fix it but before replacing or diagnosing any Hybrid system I always make sure the 12 volt battery is good. @@NutsandBoltswithTone btw, I purchased the battery charger and new battery. Had a long hours to charge it full and used repair mode. But all efforts ended up with in vain. At least I have new battery installed along with recharged old one. No more troubles except for IMA battery charging.
I had that part fail for the second time, and I out of the two I make one , had to learn how to weld and un-weld the circuit board, and I notice there is a termal paste and I had my personal theory that termal paste is old and is not doing the work any more and it fails did replace the paste too

That does basically same thing as an inverter except drive an electric compressor because Honda civic hybrid has belt driven ac compressor. I am confused as well since Honda cal it a different name. First I had a code POA5E fixed it by replacing a short in the MCM then the P1440 popped up after fixing the code now I’m confused since Honda call it by different name
Yeah Honda makes it very confusing. The flow charts call things one name then repair info a different name, then call the dealer for the part and something completely different. Sorry for your trouble. Thanks for watching

Haha…I spent about half hr doing exactly what he said in the beginning before watching this …Trying to decipher Honda’s nomenclature, it’s like “we don’t know what to call it so we we just use a bunch of names and not tell anyone they all mean the same thing”
The truth is I don't know what to do with my car, I have the same problem, they already changed the inverter and nothing when I turn on my car, it sounds in the part of my inverter as if some electricity was triggered, I don't know what to do, I'm going crazy.

Did you have to take classes for hybrid ? Or just like the normal safety ones that you use for multiple car brands
I've taken several hybrid classes about Toyota and Ford but never any for Honda. Mostly just general knowledge so you don't get hurt.

Also took apart IGBT module and waiting for new soldering iron to arrive as old one is not hot enough to melt. Will post more
