Asus ZenBook VX5015 Tear Down - Hinge Top Lid Repair and Replacement

- In this video I show how to repair and replace the hinges and top lid of an Asus ZenBook VX5015 laptop. This laptop was dropped by the who then brought the computer into my repair shop in Savannah GA. Luckily the fall did not break or crack the screen and the laptop appears to operate normally otherwise. The hinge broke off from the top lid and is protruding through the clutch cover.

Thank you! Just finished fixing my laptop by following this step by step. And you saved me the hassle by showing me to check for the smaller antennae wires and different right hinge revision. Much appreciated!
Hey that sounds great.
Where did u buy the hinges?
@@boimesa8190 How come he didn't answer you ? Is his trade secret ?
@@themiddlekingdom9121 Like everything else...you gotta Ebay it, Google it or Craigslist it till that ONE guy SOMEWHERE has the stuff you need.
This was a big help in replacing the hinge cover, I went through something similar. Asus no longer makes a rear cover for my touch screen, so had to rebuild it with new screen, cover, bezel, webcam and camera/video cable. Also upraded the wireless to the 802.11AC standard. I hate the fact ASUS doesn't have hardware service manuals. Great video, thanks again for the help.
Welcome to my world. Glad you got it figured out and fixed. Thanks for the comment.
Good repair Timster
Tim, thanks for the video. I appreciate that you show a lot of the little things that one can miss because those are the kinds of things that always get me stuck. I think that this repair is more complicated than I want to attempt myself but that, also, is good information.
Thanks for commenting.
Thanks for showing this. My laptop cover and screen are mangled from a drop. Can you tell me where I can find a replacement and how to install that? Many thanks
where can i buy the back cover with hinges ?
Always the way with laptops, just when you think it's fixed one little wire crops up and says "hey, I don't belong here" so you have to take it all apart again, had a few like that myself. FYI I find it handy to take pictures of the internals before disassembly just for a reference to how all wires sit. Good vid as always ;)
I revert back to the footage if something does not seem right or I can't quite remeber. That vid cable seemed right when installing but turns out to be not the case. Later in the video I hit 2 more bumps. End up going backwards 3 times. But I got it right in the end. Thanks for the comment GS
@@TimsComputerRepair YES...agreed...."Guilty makes a good suggestion" (I frequently do it when working on complex things like the carburetor on my Yamaha.....but as you say, Tim, it's not ALWAYS foolproof!
Great video Tim . That was hard work , I to have been caught out with revision changes , can not work out wether it's to improve the computer or to cut cost so the OEM can make more money. Keep up the good work Tim
Not sure but sometimes it is really hard to determin if you are getting the right part as a number may be off by one or two. Can't always trust the picture they show as what they send may be a different version. I got lucky with this one.
thank you ..
i want to see how to replace lcd cable!!
did you have the number/name of the part ?
Fine work.
Like the way to stayed cool even when things don't go smooth Sir.
Got new subs heree😄
Thanks for the sub!
Hi Tim, thanks for the video
Anyone know where i can find a hinge cover for UX501VW-DS71T 17" ?
Hey bro....can you please 🙏🙏 send me the link for purchasing this part..???
I fix laptops etc they can be tricky in finding parts awsome video
Yeah...You know it. Hey thanks again for the comment.
my hinges damaged that little part of plastic on left hinge that push the screen for open and close. So I must change them but i need that plastic part. My pc are an Asus vivobook. Hope there's someone whocan help me. I'm going crazy ...
Hey, Tim, great video! Thanks for that. (Love your icecube tray complete with paint-tape labels for those little bits and pieces that not only wanna get lost....but won't "tell you" where they go back, even if you DO have them in your hand! LOL
Lastly, just curious what the "average/typical" charge would be for a repair like this? (I understand that they're "all different".....but just trying to get a "feel" for what I'm looking at costwise for a repair, vs replacement. I have a cracked screen as WELL as a broken hinge on my Asus UX360CA.
Amazingly, the PC WILL still operate, but only if I hold the "lid" in one, precise position.........so, it's GOTTA be fixed or replaced. (I'm just trying to sort out the "lesser of two" dollar figures...ALL IN...including possible shipping of the unit, etc.)
Thanks again, Tim. Great work.
Thanks for commenting.
thank you
I had similar Issue, I repaired it from the service center some months back, they said they have changed something (Idk what it was), but it's again the same way again 🙁
It's just a bad design.
Nice video
What is it with Asus and their bloody hinges. I've got two Asus laptops with seized hinges wich resulted in broken plastic where the hinge screws in.
Yep. I see alot of those coming into my shop. Not worth fixing.
some of my plastic cracked surrounding the hinge. Is it still possible to fix?
You may need to replace the plastics.
I just JB welded mine back into place after watching another video. Couldn't find the top cover anywhere. Even if I would have found a new one I would have reinforced the crap out of the new one with JB before I put it back together so it doesn't happen again.
Good decision, as it seems "hinge breakage" is chronic with these Asuses! (As lovely and STREAMLINED as they are! I suspect it's that lightweight, low-profile design that IS the major culprit in their frequent breakage.) :-(
cool video , I like it
awesome video!
Thanks!
My hinge cover is completely empty off. I had my laptop since 2016
can you please send a link where you bought the lid with hinges please sir
I found them on ebay.
TimsComputerRepair thank you sir 😁
Daughter gave me her old PC. So need this repair. With hers the pic doesn't come up on screen, but I can see it on tv with hdmi.
If it comes up on external most likely it is a display issue.
How much do you charge for a back cover repair on an Asus laptop model x553s with a loose DC charging jack?
Usually $100 labor plus parts. Everything depends on parts price and availability.
could you provide the link to buy the top hinge part?
Do a quick search on eBay for these parts. Sellers change over time. You might have to order from china.
Thank you for reply, I found it in aliexpress
Tim mine broke twice. Overated laptop UX533 FDNS76.
Agreed.
Good brother
Thanks
Someone is charging me 200 dollars for this repair, with the part price included. Is that a reasonable price or can I just do this myself? Keep in mind I know my way around repairing stuff. I just don't know a price range.
$200.00 is reasonable.
❤
ASUS should up their hinge design. My S410 laptop and with hundreds other S series had broken left hinge from daily use, even with no falling nor bumps. Really annoying. and this UX501 is supposed to be a premium laptop, 2 times the price of mine and its hinge also broken. But it's from a fall so maybe a bit forgiven.
Yeah if it has been dropped then that is on the user.
This happened to me but the thing is I cant fix because im still a kid
:-(
Nice trip...,,,...,,,...,,,...,,, bay bay...(;
Poora laptop hi kholdiya sala😶😳😳😳😂
