THANK YOU!!! I was able to repair the computer. The tech at geek squad told me my computer was toast and the repair would be roughly half the cost of the computer. For a mere $40 my computer is as good as new!!!
Thank you very much for your video. One hinge on my laptop snapped off the plastic mounting and started to damage the display case. With your video and some JB Weld original cold weld epoxy, I reused the hinge, re-seated, and epoxied it in place. Over time, these hinges tighten, which leads to the damage. It took me a few adjustments to the hinge bolts to get the tension right, but everything is repaired now. As others have experienced, I was quoted $200-250 to repair this - plus the loss of my laptop for some indeterminate time. This was so much better.

Just finished replacing top and hinges using this video. Went fairly well. the only problem I had was was I wasn't plugging the plug from the screen to motherboard correctly. Finally noticed in 3rd disassembly that he was lifting the little black tab on the motherboard to plug it in. I tried that and it went in correctly. It is the short wire out of the screen not the wifi antenna. One tip is you wont need to buy hinges like I did. It is the plastic that fails. You can reuse the hinges.
Same thing happened to me with the hinge, the plastic melted on the friction fit nuts and I just used some jb weld and then next day put it all back together with no problems since

Great video! Question: What is that orange tape you used? Does it have a name? Also does every broken hinge have to be fixed with a new back cover as well, or can a hinge be fixed/ replaced without replacing the back?

Great video. I have the same issue with my laptop where the hinge screws and the screw pem nuts pulled out from the lid.
I am going to try using J-B Weld Epoxy. I will be leaving the screws and pem nuts attached to the hinge and coating the mating side with the epoxy. If it doesn't hold then I will replace the lid.

I have exactly same problem. It is within Dell one year warranty. Technician came and fixed it and told me for this laptop, do not open it more than 90 degree, the hinge of this model is not designed to open laptop wide. So I will open it narrower to use.

so many of these dell model comes to me for repair for hinge and its the flaw of the design or maybe the plastic problem is most of them when hinge is destroyed most of them usually shorts the 3.3v on the edp wire and causing a short on SUPERIO

Bad repair job, he put the short double sided tape, next time if you want to remove LCD you may get into trouble.
What are you supposed to use?
check it again how easily he pull the tape out, he should put the tape edge at the top so next time others can pull the tape out easily.
The fact that u have to open a brand new DELL to loosing the hinge so u dont broke is infurating, why DELL dont do their job seriously ???
A better explanation as you go along, instead of the music, would be more efficient.
