Thank. You. Thank you! For being one of the few content providers in this watch biz to actually describe and demo GMT as GMT/zulu. Not "local time, home time" or whatever diluted nonsense they're coming up with today. Sorry... personal pet peeve as a career pilot.
I bought the exact same model a few months ago and have really enjoyed wearing it. Super comfortable and I actually love the dial while busy, its informative. But I understand that it just isn't for everyone. Really great review and I love how you pointed out some of the concerns people may have and discussed your thoughts on them. They are legit issues for some, but for those that dont think they are too much of a problem (I actually find them to be positive features-except for the butterfly clasp) you will get one heck of a nice timepiece that can be enjoyed in many situations.
Thanks. Love this watch, I'll be keeping it for a long time. I have a few more trips planned this year so it will be coming with me. I really love how thin it is. Makes it easy to travel with.
I am an airline pilot on Boeing 777. I got in an offer on Amazon and I got 2 Airman base 22, one with steel bracelet and black to blue dial (top is darker as night time and bottom is lighter blue as day). And I got a white dial as well with brown leather strap. Is a really good watch for the price, very comfortable on the wrist and, as is thin, you not even feel and you are not going to smash somewhere in the cockpit while working. And for these reasons I prefer at the Rolex GMT master II, because is heavy and while traveling it attracts too much attention, especially if you are in non safe places. I love also because it has an history behind, it has its own personality and is not another GMT that looks like the Rolex one.
Enjoyed your presentation. I also got a kick, when you say that you sometimes get tripped up because of the complexities. Case in point @ 11:22 in the video, the local time is actually 1:04, 12:04, and 11:04 respectively, not 1:09, 12:09,11:09. I love it!
This is a watch that hits far above its weight - it's an outstanding value. I'll note that the AR coating on the crystal is very good. I also have the SST (recent production) and while it's a great looking historic watch, there does not appear to be any AR coating on that one and it's a point of annoyance. I have the Purist and I find it makes more sense - 24hr sweep and 24hr dials. Great review with comments that I mostly agree with. Thanks!
For travellers, there is also the GA version of the base 22: the arrow hand will be the one you can adjust without changing the minute hand, and the red hour hand will be showing the home time zone. This has proven much more useful for me.
15:30...or just your watch videos in general? Substantial, facts, everything covered, detailed macros, excellent acoustics, low voice, great kowledge. To sum it up: The very best found so far!
Thanks! I try to find a good balance to give some good history and info, while still trying to keep a good flow. I know no one these days wants a 25-30 min video.
I recently picked up an Airman DC-4 GMT. It came on a nylon NATO, but I swapped it out for a Strapsco beads of rice bracelet. It’s a phenomenal watch, and has been monopolizing my wrist ever since I picked it up. I can’t wait to use it for vacations once traveling becomes a thing again (for the sake of my sanity, I refuse to believe COVID lockdowns will last forever).
@@RelativeTime Not insofar as I am aware. I got mine with straight end links. It actually looks pretty good in my opinion. strapsco.com/product/beads-of-rice-bracelet/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIrO2WzZSL7gIVlaCGCh111QjIEAQYASABEgIit_D_BwE
I too have an Airman Base 22 Purist (not the GMT as I rarely need to keep track of 3 time zones :-)), everything you say about it resonates with my feelings exactly. It does take a while to come to terms with the 24 hour dial but all good things are worth a little trouble. When I travel abroad It's the only watch I need, Very good review, thank you.
I was in the army for 8 years including a tour of overseas I owned over 90 watches and yet this watch is one of my favorite solid and rugged it is like going to the unknow site. I just loved it
I like the features on the Airman like the lock for the bezel and it has a good look too. The thang I like about this channel is the watches you presents are great watches at a good price.
Just the best video on UA-cam about the airman, explanation of the range and features, clear up the confusion for me, new subscriber. I will go for the purist or the double 12
Thanks and welcome. Some point I'd like to get a double 12 to check it out. Although my next Glycine will be a combat sub, but probably won't get it until summer.
I bought a Airman 18 purist with the same color dial as your base 22. I like that it is a little smaller at 39mm and I never need to track 3 time zones. Yet I still struggle a bit with the 24 hour time. Wish there was a bracelet option for the Airman 18
Good review. Well balanced explanation and clarification of the potentially confusing factors vs description of the watch itself - and the other versions from Glycine. There is a lot of content covered here. Well done.
One thing I love about the older version is the hour hand. It doesn't apply to the GMT, but more the Purist model when it's a 24 hour hand. The counter balance is another small point that in the afternoon will point to the hour in a 12 hour scale. Helps if your not used to a 24 hour hand.
Love the video! I've mentioned previously that I'm a sucker for the GMT function, and I find myself more and more interested in different ways to present this function. For example, I have a Meistersinger GMT that I love. Not that a 24 hour presentation is completely "different", and I know there is a learning curve, but I think I'm up to the extra effort to learn how to read the dial! Although, I have to say, it's not a deal breaker, and I have no reason to believe it will affect the quality of the watches or how the watches are marketed, but I have to be honest, Glycine being purchased by Invicta gives me a slight pause. As always, thanks for the great video. Keep up the good work!
1:35 Astronaut Charles Pete Conrad wore his personal Glycine Airman automatic pilot watch on Gemini V (Aug 1965) and Gemini XI (Sep 1966) accumulating 10 days 22 hours in space. #MoonwatchUniverse
I think I'd go for the purist version. I like the simplicity of the 24 hour main hand and just using the bezel to track a second timezone. If they replaced the minute track with a 12 hour track on the GMT version I think I'd be more drawn to it, but a 12 hour main hand with only 24 hour markings just seems confusing.
I've been going back and forth on if I had to buy another, which would I get. Honestly I'm not sure. I like that they give you the option, but too many options also confuses some people. Some people love the Double 12 model. It's not a GMT, but just a regular 12 hour watch, with a 12 hour bezel. Yet also shares the look of the classic airman. I was also thinking about your Nighthawk. Still have to get one some day. Can you adjust the 24 hour hand independently?
@@RelativeTime yeah, the main 12 hour hand can be adjusted separately and jumps by the hour so it stays in sync with the minutes on the 24 gmt hand. I really love how they did the half moon dial markings and double sided gmt hand, it's really easy to read and really cool looking at the same time. I'm hoping to do a sort of re-review of it this month or next.
Great video of Glycines. They do not get enough attention, so thank you ! I have most every model in the larger case sizes and a few of the 42mm. Still looking hard for a D24 09 (Double 24) though. 🇺🇸
Relative Time It’s not common, they only made 300. It’s a 4-hand, 3-crown, 2- rotating bezels (1 inner, 1 outer), with 4 time zones. It has a purist, 24 hr complication. Most people hate the busy dial and 24hr movement, but I really like it. I’ve even offered a finders fee to anyone who can steer me to one for sale a a fair price and I’ll offer better than fair, if it’s nice. I’ll try to attach a pic, but not sure it will work. Thank you for your reply and please keep me in mind. andres55.home.xs4all.nl/frames/airmanmodel21.htm
I recently purchased a Glycine Combat Sub Chrono (quartz) GL1001 and really like it. (eBay price today $149.99) I started looking at the Airman and found the choices somewhat confusing. Your review was very helpful.
Relative Time The GMT vs Purist difference. It seems obvious now, but other reviewers were glossing over the point. I have four other GMTs (Orient Star, Seiko, Timex and Citizen). I will probably sell the Citizen because it is so large that I do not wear it. If I purchase an Airman it would be a 40 or 42mm version.
I ended up buying the GL0064 GMT model about a month ago. I think the markings make the most sense of all the GMT versions. I just ordered a GL0072 DC-4 (Purist) model (and a GL1004, just for the different color). The Glycine bug has really bitten me and I am actually considering a third Airman.
Relative Time I just ordered the GL0214 (base 22, luminous dial, purist). That will make 3 Airman. I’ll let you know when they arrive. My Glycine count just passed Seiko, tied with Orient/Orient Star, still trailing Casio, Citizen, Bulova & Timex.
I still love my airman. Haven't yet got another Glycine, but some point I will. Just not sure if it will be a Combat Sub, or the Combat Classic with Moon Phase.
@@RelativeTime Yeah it takes a second to get to your bearings but after you wear it a few times I am sure it gets easier. I appreciate your channel. This is my second piece to my collection.👍🏿😉👌🏿
I grabbed when I had a chance Airman GL0066 from authorized dealer in EU for about $500, for some reason. Tho the basic price around here is $1100-1800. I really wanted it, yet still thought maybe I can sell it for double the price. The moment I got it on my wrist, I was sure I'm keeping it. Triple time zone, vintage inspired, yet modern design, one of my favorite watches.
I just love a good steel colored bezel, also the watch looks really cool! Just hope Invicta does not muck things up. Excellent review as always! Cheers from Bengaluru India.
Great review. I have an Airman 42, the Black PVD Case with the Full Lume Dial and GMT. I really like it. It also comes on a pretty nice NATO strap. The Airman 42 is only 100m WR, as opposed to the Base 22’s 200m. It’s definitely not a diver so it should be fine for most. The base 22 does not have lume on the GMT hand while all the currant models do, kind of important on A GMT. Another thing, Glycine should not of changed there logo. The older crown is much nicer than the currant one. I have heard it called a cross between there original crown and Invicta’s Logo. As most probably know Invicta now owns Glycine. A Really like the models Glycine puts out, and the logo is not a deal breaker. The Combat Sub is a great watch, especially since they are usually available for under $500 US. You get a Swiss Made 200m Diver with Sapphire and a high beat movement. A good alternive to the Steinheart Ocean One 42, especially if you want something more unique. It’s not perfect. It has so-so lume and a 60-click Bezel with only an aluminum insert. More pluses, it’s very thin and has great crown action. Glycine also makes a field watch that gets very little coverage, the Combat 6. I was able to get a Combat 6 Vintage for less then $400, also Swiss Made with Sapphire crystal and a high beat movement. Glycine just came out with some special edition Airman models. They look really nice but only have 1atm (10m) wr. So basically splash-proof. Don’t understand that at all.
Thanks for pointing that out. I thought the 42 was almost identical, but guess not. Wonder why they dropped the water resistance. Does it still have a screw down crown? I thought you were joking about the 1 atm... but holy crap your right. A couple of the vintage models I showed only have 1atm. I know they are trying to be true to some originals models, but that's ridiculously stupid.
Relative Time the Airman 42 still has a screwdown crown. I do not know why they went to 100m wr, since it’s not a diver 100m should be fine. I imagine those new limited editions are trying be as close to the vintage models as possible, but 1 atm wr is ridiculous. For that I would never buy it.
I've got the Base22 GMT w/ the flat black dial. My only criticism of the design is that the smaller lumed dots (24hr indices) are pointless because the 24hr GMT hand itself isn't lumed. Picking knits for sure, but it's a strange design choice. That being said, this is by go-to travel companion, and it's an AMAZING tool watch!
I'm about to buy an Airman 22 but was hesitating... after watching your video review and TGV's, I think I'm gonna pull the trigger. Mine comes on a leather strap, black and quite nice, but is the stainless one you show available aftermarket? and do you know where - or do you want to sell your as you don't seemt hat impressed by it? Let me know! I just subscribed as I really like your deadpanish yet honest sounding review, your camera-work and attention to detail. Keep it up. Cheers, Phil
Hey relative time. Great vid. I just got my base 22. But the one where the background is fully lumed and its pvd coated. I love that model. The hands are black and shaped different. Its a rare one to find.
But do u think this watch will increase in value due to its history and heritage? Im seeing that they are getting hard to find especially the base 22 luminous.
Thanks for this review and your perspective on it. I love the Airman series.. mainly these types. I don't care for the SST or any chronograph versions. I've owned 4 Airmans. I started with the more modern Airman 42 purist. Then a dc-4. Then an airman 18 purist. Then most recently The Chief GL0251 Purist. It is probably my mist favorite watch I currently own. It is amazingly consistently accurate, too. It averages about +/-1 sec per day. I started it up, set and synced the time two Thursdays ago, and on this Saturday morning as I am writing, it is only +2 seconds. The version I have is very similar to your base 22, only smaller at 40mm. But, mine does not have sapphire, only 10m wr and it is purist version. Still, despite it seemingly lack luster specs in comparison to other watches i own, it is still my favorite watch. I think the base 22 is a more modern version of my chief with the better wr, sapphire crystal, and larger 42mm case... with some color and other cosmetic changes. It mixes vintage cues with a more modern build. As you eluded to, it is combination of brand history, style and design, and how well it fits, feels and looks when wearing it. I don't mind the 24-hour movement. I have plenty of standard 12-hour watches. It is refreshing to read and conceptualize the time in a different way. I love the double crown design and placement, too. It reminds me of ww2 "weems" pilot watches as seen in vintage omega ck2129 and similar jlc watches. If you've watched Dunkirk, you will know the watch I am referring to worn by Tom Hardy"s British Spitfire pilot character. I think some people needless worry or downplay Glycine because Invicta purchased it not too long ago. It has no effect on production or the quality. They are still made at glycine in switzerland the same as they always have been. If anything, this situation allows glycine to get some good funding to continue making their great watches and I believe likely to affect pricing so that they can be sold less expensive than they would be before the Invicta association. I would highly recommend one to anyone who wants an original design that is uniquely Glycine with true brand heritage and doesn't want just another gmt master homage nor want or can't pay crazy high prices for an actual gmt master.
That's one of the things I love about it. That almost every other GMT is based off the GMT master, and this is something different. WIth just as much history as the rolex. I actually had a short section of the video talking about it, but edited it out to keep the time down. I love the look of "The Chief". I didn't realize it only had 10m water resistance. Not sure why they did that. Otherwise, love the dial and blue hands.
Glycine has become a pretty outstanding value proposition. I picked up an airman 18 purist for only 400 bucks, u can easily find combat subs new for 300-350. A lot of watch for the money. I'm not really a fan of their field watches but that's just me, the airman is my favorite line
Have you seen the GMT Combat Sub. I saw it on Drop (formerly Massdrop) the other day. Supposedly it's a collaboration between them and Glycine. drop.com/buy/drop-glycine-combat-sub-gmt-automatic-watch-m1
I have but given the chance to buy an airman for the same price or less I'd rather get another airman. I have a goldeneye, not a huge diver fan, but the combat sub is different enough. I like how thin they are and the goldeneye is almost a dress watch
Very nice review as always. I purchased the dc-4 model a year ago. I really like the quality, comfort and history of the watch. But because of the number of watches in my rotation I can't seem to adjust to the 24 hour dial, same problem with a 24 hour vostok that I have. I sometimes feel like flipping it but I don't for some reason. I think I am attached to it because I am a Vietnam era vet and it was so popular with the military pilots........
Great video! I own the same one specially for travel it is the perfect watch. Wearing a more expensive watch to Africa or South America could be dangerous.
The 24 -hour scale NUMBERS on the INNER bezel disturb the reading of 12 -hour time along that inner bezel. THAT’S WHY you should have the hour-hand mounted on its 24 -hour gear and toss the gmt-hand aside. I did.
very helpful video. thanks. like others the Airman is next on my list. maybe i'm missing something but it seems understanding the ins and outs of using the Airman are simplified somewhat by just getting the purist? yes, a function is disabled but i want what looks like a regular looking watch but the main hour hand is rotating once every 24 hours and so i can get used to telling time on a 24 hour cycle. and i can pretend to be an airline pilot! thanks again for the review.
Thanks! Glad you like it. You may be right about the purist. I usually have the GMT hand set to local anyway, and I tend to use that to tell the time more then the hour hand.
by my personal experience, actually i failed to get used to, 24 hour dial will work only if you have numeric indices for reading the minute hand. and this was handled here👍🏼
Love GMTs just for the complication it self. All of my GMT are quartz at the moment.. Two Invictas, two Timex 3 GMT and the new Three GMT. I've been tempted for the double twelve.
Relative Time i like it a lot . I would say a very solid 8 out of 10 and a good buy under a $100. But they did not do a better than the 3GMT. Shortcoming on the crown and pusher. The pusher is not very tactile at all a small for the case. From the design point of view, outstanding.
Good review as usual. As far as Glycine watches are concerned, I have been looking at the Incursore line. I have wanted to add a California dial to my collection, and like the Panerai look, but their prices are not in my budget. The Incursore looks like a possible alternative.
That's pretty cool. Might be a little big, but I like the California Dial. Actually have something with a California dial on the way. Not as cool as a Glycine though.
Cool watch but I've found there are very few watches over 40mm I can wear comfortably. Definitely check out the vintage Gruen Airflight. A different take on a 24 hour watch. 12 hour movement but the hour markers move at noon and midnight.
Interesting and informative as ever, thank you. Alas, the dial design places me in the uncomfortable and unfamiliar position of having to concede a point to Rolex ... let's just say I'm glad you like the watch, Shane - and rather you than me. The newer version does look like a considerable improvement.
Looking at a lot of the other GMTs out there. Seem most follow rolex and keep a standard looking dial. Then some follow that up with a small 24 hour scale on the chapter ring. Something smal then doesn't distract. Probably works better for most people.

I've ordered one thing from there, and didn't have a problem. Joma shop is considered a grey-market dealer. Which sounds ominous, but it's not. So are most online dealers. Typically with authorized dealers they sign an agreement which restricts the price they can sell the watch at. Grey Market isn't beholden to that. So they can lower the price to whatever they want. The Downside is that there is an issue the brand often won't honor the warranty. So there is a slight risk. Although most warranty are only a few years, and I think Joma shop has their own warranty program. I've never had to use it, so I can't say how good it is.
@@RelativeTime thanks for your insight. I was just watching your latest video. I have a 24hour Vostok Komandirski and keep Steering towards that Glycine 24hr you reviewed. I love unique watches. A local Rolex dealer showed me a Tudor alarm 41mm watch onsale from $6500 to $4,000. Comes on a bracelet and an extra leather strap. I stick to affordable, but a guy can dream.

As always just a fantastic review. I’ve really come to value your opinion. Are you still enjoying your Glycine after owing it for a few months? Thanks.
Thank you! I'm still enjoying it, although not wearing it as much as I would like. Part of the doing this channel is that I'm usually wearing something I'm reviewing next. At least until I feel like I have a good sense of it. Yet I'm glad I got the airman, and would of bought it again.
Still haven't got one, but I think I would get one with Arabics. Next time it pops on Massdrop I'll probably order one. Have you seen the GMT version that was a collaboration with them? drop.com/buy/drop-glycine-combat-sub-gmt-automatic-watch-m1
Thanks for the detail review on Airman. I have recently become an Airman user, SST 12. But constantly being bugged by some wierd rotor sound of it. Have you heard about an rotor noise issue on SST 12? It sounds like rotor contacts something inside. The sound is not so big but it's irritating. I don't know what sound is normal. Plz let me know if you have any advice. Thanks always for decent informations.
Interesting, I had never heard of this watch before I must admit. Thanks for the history lesson on congrats on the new watch! Have you ever considered showing your personal collection by the way, the ones that are definite keepers? Or did I miss that video perhaps..? Cheers!
Thanks! I Have not made a state of the collection video yet. Originally I wasn't sure if anyone would be that interested, but a few people have been asking. So I've been thinking about making one, might try next month or early June.
You said @ 7:27 that "the main hour hand runs on a 12-hour scale" Really?! That is quite surprise to me. That does look and sounds very confusing. Why wouldn't they have it run on a 24-hour scale with a 24-hour dial? That makes no sense to me whatsoever.
Well the original airman had one 24 hour hand and no gmt hand. So they keep the dial looking like partly for tradition. At least that's my guess. Although they do have a "purist" model. It uses the same movement, but removes the 12 hour hand and puts it on the gmt hand. So it still operates like the original and may be less confusing. So in some ways it's nice they give you the choice of either a GMT or a Purist. There is also the "double 12" model. Which is rather popular. Same look, but just a regular 12 hour watch with a 12 hour bezel. glycine-watch.ch/collection/airman/?tx_pmxwatchcollection_pmxwatchcollection%5Bitem%5D=467&tx_pmxwatchcollection_pmxwatchcollection%5Baction%5D=show&tx_pmxwatchcollection_pmxwatchcollection%5Bcontroller%5D=Item&cHash=91330598ea7d20b13534723c5e4cd692
@ 9:45.....all that confusion could have been avoided with the purchase of the non GMT function Base 22 @ 2:29 you were going to get that version.....then you got "Complication Greedy"
I've seen a couple of Airmen advertised on eBay that say they are brand new, but lack paperwork. Is that something I should be suspicious of? Counterfeit maybe? Thanks in advance!
Good question. Glycine isn't as popular as a lot of other brands. So I've never heard of counterfeit Glycine watches, but that doesn't mean they aren't around. You should ask them, but I'm guessing that just means they are considered a Grey Market dealer. So no paperwork, may means no warranty, just as with most Grey Market Sellers. I'm pretty sure Drop.com where I got this one is Grey Market, just as Joomashop and Ashford. Basically you wind up trading that warranty for a pretty good discount. So just up to you on what you value more.
I like the red GMT hand instead of the white ones. The red makes it distinct from the other two. I only wish the "24" was the correct "00." There is no "24_00" time, it's "00_00"
Relative Time I didn’t know what came with it! I’ve been looking at them on Ashford and none of them have the stainless steel bracelet. But yeah that one I guess!
Unfortunately this version has been phased out for a newer one, the Airman 42. The newer one is mostly a cosmetic change, so most of what I say here should still apply. Although if you really like this version, your best bet would be to check out eBay. Or check out some of the "Vintage models" that Glycine sells. They have more of an older retro look. glycine-watch.ch/collection/airman/airman-vintage/
@@johnbradley8757 Hard to say as watch prices can be volatile. Usually what I try to do is go on Ebay, then search for the model I'm interested in. On the left side of the screen, usually at the bottom, there should be a button for "Sold Items". Which shows you what people have been paying recently for them. Right now it looks like the prices are up a bit, from $750 to $1000. Which to me still seems a little high, but a lot of stuff seems higher these days too.
Hey Shane!! Great video man, I’m really impressed with this one. Really want to pick one up. Question... There’s a seller on eBay named “Watchgooroo” selling the new contemporary one for $380. Ever heard of them? Sound to good to be true?
It might be, but you never know. Unless it's the double 12 that sounds too good. Only eBay seller I know of is Glycinedirect . They are known for selling refurbished models and good prices.
wow that is the watch for me! many thanks for the review ps another watch that is also stunning is the citizen navihawk blue angel the one with the blue and yellow face i would be thrilled if you could review this watch as i really appreciate your knowledge and the way you present you videos is first class reviews of this quality help greatly when considering what are beautiful but substantial purchases thank you.
Thanks man! I'm glad you liked it. I've actually been wanting to get a Navihawk or a Nighthawk for a while. Even before running this channel I kept running into the one you are talking about. I even tried it on briefly when I was on a cruise, but that was a while ago. So they are both on my list to check out, just not sure when I will.
Yup, that is one of the downsides. If it wasn't for the GMT movement, I'd say it was way overpriced. But for whatever reason, all GMTs seem to start around that price. There are a few exceptions, of course. I'm curious if it is because of the cost of the movements. Or if they think they can just charge that because of the market. Another new GMT that looks fantastic is the new Zelos Horizons. most GMTS are a bit thick like the new BOLDR, but Zelos did a good job keeping this at 12mm. zeloswatches.com/collections/horizons-gmt

I love it!
Yah... It's a perfect example 🙂. Glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks and welcome to the channel.
Great review! I really like your intros, especially the history and background you give on the watch or brand.
Thanks! I try to find a good balance to give some good history and info, while still trying to keep a good flow. I know no one these days wants a 25-30 min video.
Just ordered a Purist 42mm from Jomashop. I live in the UK, and importing the watch from the US has saved me a fortune.
Things have got to get better. Does Strapcode have a bracelet with end links for the Airman now?
@@RelativeTime Not insofar as I am aware. I got mine with straight end links. It actually looks pretty good in my opinion.

That dial is perfect. I knew you would produce a nice review. Outstanding commentary also. Nice job
I was in the army for 8 years including a tour of overseas I owned over 90 watches and yet this watch is one of my favorite solid and rugged it is like going to the unknow site. I just loved it
Still one of my favorites.
This was a highly informative review and explanation about how it works. This watch is very nice.
GMT's are now on my radar. Thanks for the informative breakdown.
In northern Norway it helped me to track home time zone, local time zone and weather it's day or night)) sometimes you can't really tell)
Good review. Well balanced explanation and clarification of the potentially confusing factors vs description of the watch itself - and the other versions from Glycine. There is a lot of content covered here. Well done.
Thanks. I felt like I was covering a lot of ground. Hopefully it all made sense.
I think it's cool that you got the older model. It looks great and gives off a sense of the history.
One thing I love about the older version is the hour hand. It doesn't apply to the GMT, but more the Purist model when it's a 24 hour hand. The counter balance is another small point that in the afternoon will point to the hour in a 12 hour scale. Helps if your not used to a 24 hour hand.
Excellent review especially the details about different models and functionalities of the watch.
Been looking for a watch like this... glad it exists and is very functional
Well Done! Good Review. I just bought an Airman 18 GMT GL0231.
Thanks. Hope you are enjoying your airman. It's still one of my favorites.
It's a solid watch. The use of the SW-330 makes sense for the GMT function. Nicely covered. 👌
1:35 Astronaut Charles Pete Conrad wore his personal Glycine Airman automatic pilot watch on Gemini V (Aug 1965) and Gemini XI (Sep 1966) accumulating 10 days 22 hours in space.
#MoonwatchUniverse
Nice review! I love that you mention the different details and functions of the watch.
Thanks!
Combat sub is a good choice....and the reason you like it is because it is the "leather jacket" of watches. For me, I love the airman.
I don't think I've ever seen the double 24. Two 24 hour hands?
Relative Time It’s not common, they only made 300. It’s a 4-hand, 3-crown, 2- rotating bezels (1 inner, 1 outer), with 4 time zones. It has a purist, 24 hr complication. Most people hate the busy dial and 24hr movement, but I really like it. I’ve even offered a finders fee to anyone who can steer me to one for sale a a fair price and I’ll offer better than fair, if it’s nice. I’ll try to attach a pic, but not sure it will work. Thank you for your reply and please keep me in mind.

I recently purchased a Glycine Combat Sub Chrono (quartz) GL1001 and really like it. (eBay price today $149.99) I started looking at the Airman and found the choices somewhat confusing. Your review was very helpful.
Glad to help. Was it the whole GMT vs Purisit? Or the huge number of different models.
@@carllange3950 it has bit you. Which one do you like the most?
Relative Time I just ordered the GL0214 (base 22, luminous dial, purist). That will make 3 Airman. I’ll let you know when they arrive. My Glycine count just passed Seiko, tied with Orient/Orient Star, still trailing Casio, Citizen, Bulova & Timex.
Great review!! I'M FALLING IN LOVE WITH THIS BRAND AND ESPECIALLY WITH THE AIRMAN!!
I still love my airman. Haven't yet got another Glycine, but some point I will. Just not sure if it will be a Combat Sub, or the Combat Classic with Moon Phase.
I just received my Glycine Airman Base 22 it's beautiful. I thought it would be hard to set but I figured everything out based on my watch knowledge 😉
It's not too difficult to set. Reading it has a little learning curve, but also not too bad.
@@RelativeTime Yeah it takes a second to get to your bearings but after you wear it a few times I am sure it gets easier. I appreciate your channel. This is my second piece to my collection.👍🏿😉👌🏿
This one has been on my list for a long time!
So far I think Invicta is mostly leaving things alone. So hopefully it stays that way.
Love the way u talk about the history...👍👍😃
Thank you!
Very good review. Ur presentation and tonality is awesome dude.
That is true. Hadn't noticed that. Still have this and love it. It really is a great price for a GMT.
I like the 39 mm Airman 18 Purist better. I hope that the bezel lock could be smaller or even removed and replaced by bezel clicks.
Hey relative time. Great vid. I just got my base 22. But the one where the background is fully lumed and its pvd coated. I love that model. The hands are black and shaped different. Its a rare one to find.
That's cool. I didn't know there was a fully lumed version. Still love mine.
@@RelativeTime yes there is. U can check out the urban gentry channel. He did a review of the base 22 luminous.
But do u think this watch will increase in value due to its history and heritage? Im seeing that they are getting hard to find especially the base 22 luminous.
@@rameshdathrampersad9216 Prices always fluctuate, and rarer watches can go up, but I don't think it will go up too much.
Great review of one of the favorite watches in my collection. 👍🏼
One to add to my collection! Great video and very informative on the history! Nice job
Great video! I own the same one specially for travel it is the perfect watch. Wearing a more expensive watch to Africa or South America could be dangerous.
I am a big fan of tool watches and this one is the knock!!! I find it very legible in spite of the busy dial.
For some people it just makes sense. Others it makes their eyes go cross.
Really well done. Pretty great gmt for the price!
I do like this. Alot going on with the dial. Its different, and i think that is what appeals.
It's a great watch, still one of my favorites.
@@RelativeTime certainly considering one
Best video yet from you - keep up the good work sir!
Thanks!
I have the GL0069, Love it.
Great review, sir. I was curious about this watch. You should have more views!
Thanks! Appreciate it.
The 24 -hour scale NUMBERS on the INNER bezel disturb the reading of 12 -hour time along that inner bezel. THAT’S WHY you should have the hour-hand mounted on its 24 -hour gear and toss the gmt-hand aside. I did.
Did you have to widen the hole on the hands in order to mount it on the gmt gear? I think that is basically what a purist model is.
very helpful video. thanks. like others the Airman is next on my list. maybe i'm missing something but it seems understanding the ins and outs of using the Airman are simplified somewhat by just getting the purist? yes, a function is disabled but i want what looks like a regular looking watch but the main hour hand is rotating once every 24 hours and so i can get used to telling time on a 24 hour cycle. and i can pretend to be an airline pilot! thanks again for the review.
Thanks! Glad you like it. You may be right about the purist. I usually have the GMT hand set to local anyway, and I tend to use that to tell the time more then the hour hand.
by my personal experience, actually i failed to get used to, 24 hour dial will work only if you have numeric indices for reading the minute hand. and this was handled here👍🏼
Reading the minutes is still what trips me up. My brain automatically looks for the hour indicator and multiply by 5.
Relative Time
yes exactly, hence, numerics as minute markers are necessary
Love GMTs just for the complication it self. All of my GMT are quartz at the moment.. Two Invictas, two Timex 3 GMT and the new Three GMT. I've been tempted for the double twelve.
How do you like the new Timex GMT. I've looked at it a few times.
Relative Time i like it a lot . I would say a very solid 8 out of 10 and a good buy under a $100. But they did not do a better than the 3GMT. Shortcoming on the crown and pusher. The pusher is not very tactile at all a small for the case. From the design point of view, outstanding.
Great review..very thorough. Subscribed.
Thanks and welcome!
Nice review it went by really quick, I enjoyed it.
Thanks!
Look forward to the review. Thanks.
Cool watch but I've found there are very few watches over 40mm I can wear comfortably. Definitely check out the vintage Gruen Airflight. A different take on a 24 hour watch. 12 hour movement but the hour markers move at noon and midnight.
I haven't seen that before. That is very cool. I'm surprised no one else has tried that since.
@@RelativeTime I should have said move at 1pm and 1am. It's on my eventually list but finishing my car is more of a priority.

Well, sir, I really appreciated your clear and complete review, and your perfectly understandable english.
Thanks, I'm glad you like it.

Have you ever ordered from Jomas shop? They have one onsale for $379 and free shipping. I hate to purchase from a shop that seems to good to be true.
I think it might be a little louder, but not too bad. At least as far as I’m concerned.
Haha, I'm pretty confident I'm speaking for all of us by saying "yes, we're interested!". I'll definitely be looking forward to that one, cheers mate.
Love Glycenes!
Ditto

@ 9:45.....all that confusion could have been avoided with the purchase of the non GMT function Base 22 @ 2:29
you were going to get that version.....then you got "Complication Greedy"
Nice little review, im definitely more of a fan of the 42mm version, its a really piece overall, thanks for sharing

Love the Airman. Wearing my 40mm Double Twelve right now. Great watch.
Spartan75 That’s the Airman you can read in the dark👍
I like the red GMT hand instead of the white ones. The red makes it distinct from the other two.
I only wish the "24" was the correct "00." There is no "24_00" time, it's "00_00"
The only company I've seen throw up a 0 on the dial is AVI-8. I don't think they have made a GMT thought. Be interesting if they did.
Great review! Your voice and demeanor remind me of Walter Sorrells, the knife maker. Lol
Not familiar with him, I'll have to check him out.
Love these. I want the white dial version.
White was my second choice. Thought about the lumed dial version, but that might be more of a novelty.
I assume you can swim with it? Of course not scuba dive. Right?
You should be able to do so. Although I should point out that some of the newer airmans have less water resistant.
Loving the intro in this video and the music choice!
There's a little typo in the title, "Gylcine".
Thanks. I missed that, should be fixed now.
Im curious to know where you got the stainless steel strap/bracelet
The one that came with the airman?
Relative Time I didn’t know what came with it! I’ve been looking at them on Ashford and none of them have the stainless steel bracelet. But yeah that one I guess!
Good clip. Well thought out.
Thank you!
cant find your model online anywhere. also a comment below said they bought the 46 mm version. how many sizesdoes your model come in? thanks.

@@RelativeTime thanks. What should i be paying for your model in the resale market approx.?
@@johnbradley8757 Hard to say as watch prices can be volatile. Usually what I try to do is go on Ebay, then search for the model I'm interested in. On the left side of the screen, usually at the bottom, there should be a button for "Sold Items". Which shows you what people have been paying recently for them.
Right now it looks like the prices are up a bit, from $750 to $1000. Which to me still seems a little high, but a lot of stuff seems higher these days too.
i still dont get it. does the hour hand move the same in both?
Do you mean between the GMT version and the Purisit?
Base 22 is still available (not discontinued) I've just bought one!
I'm pretty sure it is (although could be wrong) as it's not on their site anymore. I think there is just a lot of new old stock. Where did you buy it?
@@RelativeTime Watchgooroo seller on Ebay.
The Citizen Blue Angels has a 60 minute chronograph counter. Good luck reading that without a loupe. It also resets to zero if you go over 60.
I love the watch it just seems a bit cheap to me? I know it's very high quality but that dial reminds me of a Vostok.

Anyone can find the GL0205? looks like its all gone
