I'm a teacher, and the second I heard about the assault I immediately lost all sympathy for the defendant. Middle school kids can be trying. But you're the adult. Act like it.

Yeah, if you have boundaries that can't be crossed without you becoming verbally or physically abusive, you need to find a different profession. I've taught in schools where the disrespect was shocking to my non-teacher friends and family. This student wasn't even _being_ disrespectful.

I was a middle school teacher for 2 years and hated every minute of it. The kids are horrible and their parents are worse. Of course we had 1 teacher show up drunk and 1 teacher got high on her lunch… middle school should be banned all together 🤪🤣

@@danquaylesitsspeltpotatoe8307 even if that were true, you're not really allowed to defend yourself as a teacher. It sucks but it's true. I've been given training on defensive maneuvers and restraint techniques and it prioritizes the kid's safety over yours. Because they are a child. And in this case the child was disabled (if only temporarily).

How is a student walking away an attack? The student had been told to do push-ups as a punishment. The student told the teacher that he had a wrist injury, and therefore could and would not do push-ups. The teacher got in the students face and spoke in a threatening/inappropriate manner. The student then tried to walk away, the teacher followed him and strangled him. The teacher only stopped when multiple staff members intervened.
In what world is that an attack on the part of a student???? if that counts as a student attacking, I'm a kumquat @@danquaylesitsspeltpotatoe8307The defendant was definitely wanting to use his family. However, I don't think it's a stupid question. The defendants lawyer kept saying how he was no threat… That's the point.

I’m a teacher and a father. We put a lot of faith in near strangers that our children are safe and respected. If you betray that faith in a physical way, you deserve prison. It’s no different than abusing a senior or a medical patient. Glad bond wasn’t lowered.

    • @coinsmith

The most telling (or even chilling) part of this incident is that others had to intervene to end the assault. I think teachers should be required to pass psychological evaluations before being hired. Some people can only put up with so much and will "snap", and that can be very dangerous.

If the defense attorney did not try to make the defendant sound like an angel then people would cry that he did not have competent defense due to racism.

The defense attorney did his darnedest for his client, which is what he is supposed to do. I don't recognize him so he may not have much, if any, experience with Simpson (almost all criminal defendants are indigent and have appointed PD counsel.) Simpson was somewhat amused by all of this but checked himself so as to not thoroughly humiliate the guy.

Before reading any other comments, I like that lawyer. He actually spoke up for his client. I see these short hearings where a lot of slang is thrown around and presumption of guilt. Perhaps he is guilty. But everyone in US courts are supposed to be persumed innocent until proven guilty. It seems this was an arraignment or something like that. Having said that, often the defendants act like they're from the jungle instead of good citizens. In and out of jail is no way to live.

It was interesting watching this hired lawyer compared to the PDs. I kept thinking the attorney was putting out everything he could think of to show the defendant’s parents they were getting their money’s worth of defense. He could at least tell them he tried everything. But he either didn’t know or forgot about the Simpson-Factor. I wonder if he’s ever been in front of Simpson before?
