    Hey everyone i realize that i said cold start but i didnt remove my cold start. The resistor is for that sensor in the egr system. What i meant is that the egr helps when you start your vehicle in cold environment. Sorry for the confusion and thanks for watching.

    That’s awesome though cause I was able to go up hills in a full lower gear once I did the egr pair and all hardliners and such! Plus my oil isn’t super narly after only 3k miles on it! But the rest of those things are defiantly really issues! I have to do timing kit and gaskets so I’m gonna pull mine when I do this but people already think I did a 3.4 swap cause my 3slow ain’t slow no moe! Thanks for the info!

    My 93 4Runner was getting 13.7 mpg before headers, with my CAT convertor and EGR already removed. I do mostly short trips and have a heavy foot. I will update MPG after a few full tanks. I know this is an older thread but people can still learn from others from this post in the future.

      @@5koolie464 My last tank full got 12.7 mpg. It was about 80 mile e-way and the rest short trips around town. I have a heavy foot. Now that it has more low end power and a raspy exhaust sound I drive it harder. The best MPG ever was 16mpg when I did a 60 mph run for 200 miles. It should be better now with headers if I did the same type test.

      Nice for those girls thats a good mpg haha

  • @supercharged2414
    @supercharged2414 2 роки тому +4

    I have driven my truck a couple months now and yes there is a large increase in low end power. It is well worth the hassle of putting headers on a 3VZE. It is much stronger when accelerating. The headers added a raspy sound using the same muffler I had before. The best $150 I have spent on the old 4Runner. My gas mileage is actually worse because I have my heavy foot in it more. EGR delete and cat converter delete plus headers helped the 3.0 slow now be a 3.0 go.

      @@southerngearz Definitely. Just put my second head gasket set on in 12,000 miles. I used a MLS head gasket this time carefully preparing the block and heads for the Multi Layer Steel gaskets. It requires a super smooth finish or almost polished to work well with a MLS gasket. Hopefully I wont have to put a third set of head gaskets on it.

    Thanks for the pointers. If I were a younger man I would make the attempt. But I am much too old. Nonetheless, for those younger guys who are more adventuresome, you need to pointedly ask how much gain in either horsepower or torgue is acquired and whether the conversion to headers is worth the effort and money. Since many do not have access to wielding equipment... much less know how to weld, you are virtually stuck with using clamps or increase your costs by having someone (such as a muffler shop) make the changes. And by the way, my Toyota is a 1990 Motor home.

    I just got mine installed and they also eliminate the catalytic convertor. If you bought a shorter muffler and a shorter convertor you might squeeze both in. I wrapped mine with titanium wrap and it is about an inch from my firewall. I just put head gaskets on mine so i had the intake plenum off. I doubt you could get the passenger side on without the PS pump or plenum removed. You could unbolt the plenum leaving most lines connected and move it towards the drivers side to make room to get the passenger side header on.

    • @southerngearz
      @southerngearz  2 роки тому

      Yea you can fit the cat in there but like you said it will take a smaller muffler. I should have wrapped mine probably would have helped a lot with the heat. Yea I installed mine when I had my motor out however I could only put the passenger side on or the motor wouldnt have fit. Good deal you got it installed though dont need that crossover pipe causing more issues!

    • @southerngearz
      @southerngearz  2 роки тому

      While you are at it you can adjust the timing to gain more power. Its not much power mind you but you can feel it somewhat.

    • @supercharged2414
      @supercharged2414 2 роки тому

      @@southerngearz I did adjust the timing to 13 degrees. No spark knock with the EGR removed and the timing bumped up 3 degrees from 10 to 13. What really surprised me is how the headers changed the sound of the exhaust. I already had the cat convertor removed before I installed the headers which made it slightly louder than stock. Now it has a raspy sound when revving it or accelerating hard. It is quiet as before headers when at cruising speed. How did the sound change so much with the same muffler? Must be from the headers flowing so much better. That lousy crossover behind the engine must be more restrictive than I thought. I tried adjusting the timing up to 13 degrees before the headers and heard minor spark knock. The headers must flow way better to not hear spark knock now. I might go to 15 degrees.

    Could be wrong but I don't think that's a cold start electrical connection. The 10k resister is for the EGR system and the 'temp sensor' for EGR is what that plug goes to I think. Mine is a '95 so maybe it's different?
