Hey Jesse! I have some experience with diagnosing DPF issues in VWs. This advice won't carry over 100% but may point you in the right direction. The sensor with the 2 hoses is a pressure differential sensor. With engine off, you should expect to sit this sit at atmospheric pressure if it measures in absolute pressure or it could read 0 if it's measuring in gage pressure. For an unblocked filter, you'd expect to see less than 100mbar differential pressure in the VW tdis anyway. VCDS is great in that it will show you the expected values - you'd probably find specs or even just tribal knowledge for that car. The DPF has certain conditions it needs to meet to initiate the active regen like engine load, coolant temp etc. The fault you mentioned with the EGR - it's not uncommon that the systems will prevent the DPF regenerating if there is an EGR fault. I had a similar situation in an Octavia VRS where there was a fault with the anti-shudder valve. It would do a forced regen through diagnostic but wouldn't allow the ECU to do a regen of its own accord. I would look at mass airflow values for EGR and see if there is a test protocol in your diagnostic. You may be able to perform a test where it will open the EGR and you should see mass air flow values drop. If there are faults with the temperature probes in the DPF this can also cause failure to regen. Once you are satisfied the EGR is working correctly, I'd move focus to the DPF then. Hope this in informative. Really loving the videos, great to see you getting stuck in and reaping the rewards. All the best, Dan.
I full agree with this had a similar problem on a ford kuga which was reading exactly the same, changed the differential pressure sensor for 50 quid and sorted it right out, more of a bonus I got the car dirt cheap coz if this fault
Great to see you so stuck into a series with some real interesting content. Makes a huge change from the car changes and such. Really here for all of this series
Done plenty myself .. Soon as i saw the problem thought dpf pressure sensor .. Also use an airline to blow the hoses out sometimes they blocked.. Genuine part from Merc is about 60 quid !!
Jess there is 2 hinges on the hood that you can undo, this allows the hood to go up to service mode giving you way more room to work. Nice videos keep them coming :)
Hi Jesse, the DPFs normally build up soot because of a boost leak or vacuum leak. Even if you get your DPF cleaned it doesn't address the root cause. I would use a smoke machine and find any boost hose or vac leaks too.
On a Mercedes with a full DPF filter I solved the problem by removing the filter from the car and pouring the product called KRAFFT WYNN'S DPF Cleaner inside. Left to act for 2 days in a basin, shaking it morning and evening. Once this was done I washed the filter with super hot running water and after that i used a jet wash ( NOT A STEAM CLEANER )until the water coming out ( with agitation while draining) . Refitted the filter and left the car idling for about 20 minutes. I have definitively solved the problem.
Save ya self the money on fixing the egr and just have it mapped out along with a stage 1 remap and while your at it have the dpf gutted out and done away with 😉 sorry I mean professionally cleaned
It’s those health comments which makes you so related and such a down to earth normal guy, keep it up Jesse, by the way you’re not fat mate don’t put yourself down bro
Mate your videos are mint. Been watching Matt Armstrong from the start and you remind me of him back when he started his youtube Journey. Keep going mate sky is the limit 🙌🏻❤️
Commenting to boost the algorithm and say really loving this series you’ve found your niche now, I never watched you before this even though I knew about you! Stay at it mate please done let it fizzle out🤣🙏
Glad to see Paul at sheffield remaps getting the recognition he deserves from a decent bloke with many great followers Jesse you do a top job mate and I've used Paul for years Also for the dpf issue pal does offer a service to sort this all in one for you But to check the dpf unplug your lambda sensor and stick a dipstick down the hole to check see if the dpf is hollow
If it's constantly limp mode-ing, try unplugging the maf sensor and see if it drives the same/better with it unplugged. If it improves - you 100% need a maf sensor...and it's free to test(by unpluging) so always worth a try. The car will run on "safe" boost levels/fuel trim with it unplugged, which will be better than the "strange" readings it's getting from a dead MAF. If your MAF is good - the car will feel slower with the MAF unplugged.
Good vids bro 👌🏻👍🏻.. I used the mr muscle on my mk4 golf pd150 a few years ago on the turbo actuator arm deffo works a treat on breaking down all the soot build up.. 👍🏻
Loving your journey pal. Making moves well done. Much love and respect. Hope you get the missis out and enjoy some road trips together, keep shining pal 👍
Try changing the sensor before taking the dpf off if you take off dpf and clean it and it works the dodgy sensor will clog the dpf up quick and it will make the car regen when it doesn’t need too. If it’s false reading high on the pre dpf it causes a lot of problems and sensor probs under £75
Buy a Manometer to manually measure the true DPF differential pressure. Instead of relying on the cars DPF differential pressure sensor readings on your scan tool (as the sensor could be faulty). The Manometer bypasses the cars sensor and takes a true reading directly from the DPF. If the Manometer and your cars DPF diff pressure sensor are showing the same readings you can 100% rule out a faulty diff pressure sensor. Then use a pressure gauge on both DPF sensor pipes, one at a time, to make sure they are not holding pressure, if they are holding pressure then one of the pipes could be blocked. Both cheap tools and invaluable for troubleshooting DPF issues.
At idle your dpf should be below 10 millibar yours is 20 so is defo blocked Little tip for you hold the revs up around 3k after cleaning it with dpf cleaner and you will should see the pressure dropping while your revs are up Only once your pressure is below 10 at idle should you reset the values of the soot otherwise if your dfp is not unblock you could cause more damage or even start a fire 👍
Map the EGR valve out of the ECU and blank swell flaps out that should sort it out and just smash the dpf it will be a lot easier then messing around with it or put a Pre-cat on it Jesse all the best pal
Look at live data regarding dpf pressure should be no lower than 10mbar, remove exhaust gas pressure sensor and run it then it will tell you whether the exhaust pressure line is blocked
Have a watch of O’reilys Auto on here. He’s the master of fixing dpf issues. Most are sensor related, the blockage is usually the result, not the cause. Also if there’s soot in the tail pipe, the dpf is damaged or missing.
Hi Jesse - did put it on your last vid - but these German cars engine lights will stay off until you drive them 3 times - i think even cycling ignition on and off will trigger some of them
I clean DPF filters easiest way to check if your DPF is still fine is stick your finger in the exhaust pipe if it comes out black with a black powder on it then your DPF has been gutted or your DPF has a crack in it common problems with Mercedes is the DPF pressure sensor 99% of the time they go faulty your pressure should be around 5 milibar at idle
I’m from Germany and the German/euro plug is fine BUT… NEVER stick a metal object into the earth slot- also NEVER put ANYTHING in the earth slot when the power is switch on- I’ve used a wooden stick and a plastic object with power turned off!!
Great video mate, heads up if you fit a new pressure sensor you'll need to reset that with your machine too mate before you drive it 👍 keep grafting mate x
Test the EGR valve with power mate, the solenoid may be broken which would cause the DFP to clog up. Personally, i would just get the EGR deleted, DPF gutted and mapped out and a remap
Make sure there isn't an additive bottle anywhere on the car, some cars have an EOLY tank on cars around 09 ish, it would probably have given you a fault code for it though.
You can’t see a clunking noise you have to feel/listen for it jack the car up and pull the wheel left to right can also pull up and down on the anti roll bar should give you a noise if faulted
General rule of thumb Jesse =- if you have a sensor plugged in, and unplug it and readings don't change, that means it's buggered.(You unplug the exhaust sensor before and the reading stayed the same)
wish mine was that easy 😂 knocking ended up being inner and outer track rods cost an arm and leg after doing top mounts, drop links and lower arms I just ran out of time and patience
The back pressure faults that keep coming back could be due to the back pressure pipe being blocked. Remove the back pressure sensor and then start the engine and see if there is exhaust gasses coming out of the pipe. If no exhaust gasses, then its blocked.
Get a professional in for ya DPF as you could be playing parts darts trying to solve it. As mentioned before by others the DPF relys upon lots of sensors being correct, if one fails it clogs dpf up and throws codes and limp mode.
Delete em both and you should be in the clear - Mods like interior LED upgrades, chrome badges and silver wheels (if they are getting refurbed) would really make the white colour pop. Love what you’re doing and how far you’ve came
take the dpf of buy 5 litres of dpf cleaner leave it in overnight standing up with one end blocked off. when u wake up in the morning unblock it and watch what happens easy peezy also blow it out after with an airline or something else like that.
Glad I could shed some light on faults . Clear egr code and car will then carry out a regeneration. Remember it climing to 44% is nothing as these go upto 400% .
Honestly DPF filters are absolute garbage.... Government: "We don't want all this dirty exhaust gases ruining our air quality".... Also Government: "But if you take your car to a garage in an industrial estate where nobody can see, it's fine to force a regen and spew plumes of black smoke into the air there" Remove and Map it mate haha
Ive got the e 250 same shape as this best car ive had love the 350 which i wanted but couldnt afford best car you're had in the channel apart from the civic for me

Same issue with my girlfriends Mercedes dpf was measuring 400% had the dpf cleaned similar to a carbon clean fella came out to the house to clean it an issue fixed
I'll give you a tip when buying parts for one side always buy for both sides because if parts are knackered on one side chances are the other side won't be far behind.

Love the youtube/Car community. Everyone shows each other love. 🙏🏻❤️

Replace the DPF pressure sensor, reset learned valves HFM and DPF and then do a regen while driving.
Replacing dpf pressure sensor worked on mine
Third this, we’ve done a few and it’s a common issue
Yes do this, had the same on my c class last month. Fixed it for me. Needs to be driven for a while once replaced to regen the dpf

He has a cracked DPF no back pressure thats from watching every O'Rellys video and never do a regen needs a new cat
Probably had the bollocks reved out of it doing regens an it’s got to hot
💯 the sensor causes regen failure thus filter ends up blocked.. O’reilys the top man on this topic 🔥
@@westmidlandlandscapingvery much doubt that
