Love this album... I saw a shooting star in upper darby at the Tower Theater ..what a concert..we were in the front row!! and then I went and purchased the album literally the next day at "the balcony "a record store /head shop in Upper Darby..still sounds great!!!
I recall the very first time I heard this song on Video Concert Hall during the spring of 1980 on SPN network. I've been a fan ever since! I did not locate the LP until mid summer but after getting it, I played it until the grooves were worn out. So far as I'm concerned, this song (as well as that first album) are timeless, I still get the same energy/magic from it as I did 35 years ago!
I too first heard them on Video Concert Hall in the spring of 1980. You've Got What I Need was the very first one for me. Then I found the single at the record store in the summer and the album in the fall. Breathtaking cover! Actually saw them in concert in Philly here in October 1981. Great show but only about 10 people showed up, including us. Needless to say they never returned to Philly.
The Shooting Stars (and the galaxies) were a retro band, a bunch of high schoolers that played 50s music. The Galaxies were a swing dancers that dressed the period, setting the mood. Pretty sophisticated for their age, or some parents were. Anyway, the core was Van, Ron, and Steve. They kinda disappeared for a couple of years, then reemerged around '77 or '78, playing most of the songs from their first two albums. There was a bar in Kansas City, Kansas where they would play three sets, I paid $3, to get in and drink all the 3.2% beer I wanted. And everyone else. I thought they were pretty good. No, Van's one of my heroes. The band made KC proud. I think that they have a unique style, and you know what? Just good dudes. Sorry for getting carried away. Knowledge that's unshared is pretty useless. Tonight might be my last chance to share it. For no particular reason.
Woe! Who is , wha, MAN THESE GUYS ROCK!!! This isnt a current but has got to be huge!!! Yet ive NEVER heard it on the radio? The song really throttles up !!! Wonder what their other tunes sound like THIS ONE JUST FLOORED ME!!!
This band totally kicked ass! I still listen to them. Wish they would tour again with the band Starz, and REX. What a show! Lots of great music, good times.
Truly an amazing live performance !!! 💪😎🔥 These guys are One! The brick shithouse frontman RUNS with it! (Love the 3 stacks of hi-pwr Marshalls!) They really fit together! SMOKIN!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
so sad Van passed away last March and Keith Mitchell will always be my favorite vocalist , just won't be and never was the same after Keith Mitchell left the band
Gary actually left in 86 when they disbanded, Van Mclain and Steve Thomas reformed the band in 89, and it continued on consistently until Van passed away in march of last year, they took a small hiatus , found another guitar player and are back with playing sparse shows here and there,
I am also a BIG fan of Gary West and his vocals were incredible. However, after all the changes, and then after Van's death, the only original member from the first 5 albums is drummer Steve Thomas. Todd Pettygrove is the lead singer, and he voice is the closest you will hear (out of Keith Mitchell and Ronnie Platt etc) to Gary's. I saw their show last fall in Ottawa KS and they rocked the house! This lineup is killer (even with Dennis Laffoon covering many of the bass parts) and sounds closest to the original while maintaining their own personality as well--and the catalog carries the day for sure!
through all the lineup changes Van McClain remained....he is Shooting Star and a great underrated guitarist as well. RIP.
R.I.P. Van McClain... Peach's Records and Tape, Tiger Records... Penny Lane... they miss you, too.
Forty plus year fan.

That's what's up! This never gets old.
A great performance!! I loved this band in the 80's and that is still my favorite Shooting Star jam !👍🎶😎

THIS ONE JUST FLOORED ME!!!
Shooting Star was a band that came out of Kansas City around 1979 or so. They got a LOT of airplay in the Midwest at the time, particularly this song.
THIS IS ACTUALLY GREAT STUFF
Seen them at memorial Hall in KC with Robin Trower !! One kick ass show !!! 🤘🎸🎶🎶😎
Always been a fan of Shooting Star. Glad to see they're still performing!
Great Band!!
Big rivalry between Kansas City and St. Louis but KSHE 95 played Shooting Star because you just can't deny they were a damn good band.
KWK played this song in heavy rotation back in those days too.
This band totally kicked ass! I still listen to them. Wish they would tour again with the band Starz, and REX. What a show! Lots of great music, good times.

I saw some really good shows at the Uptown when I lived in KC. I remember Foghat being ridiculously loud. I saw Night Ranger that same year (1984).
The Danielle Nicole band is a kc native. Great band. Check them out
Love this Theatre...
Bravo my friends!
Hope to get to see them in Arp 2020 @ Ameristar casino in MO.
Anyone know if this was ever released on cd or dvd ? The sound on this is better then the other show that had been put on dvd .
I believe it was:
John Swetnam, One Block West Bar Kansas City, Kansas
I was a fan of shooting star in the early 89s after seeing them live in Madison…is that the original singer? Doesn’t sound the same
No, that is not the original singer.
Same for me, saw them for the first time in Madison and was blown away. This is most certainly not the original singer
@@NancyPasley The grit in this singer's voice adds a little something to the song, though!
This may be my funeral music.
Sam Ham Missouri Movin On was brothers.
so sad Van passed away last March and Keith Mitchell will always be my favorite vocalist , just won't be and never was the same after Keith Mitchell left the band
I was wondering because it doesn't sound the same.
Does anyone have any bootlegs by Shooting Star wanna trade?
I didn't know Glenn Danzig join shooting star LOL
Attention, Millenials!!! These are MEN playing ROCK & ROLL, not your mamby-pamby B$ that you think is music...!
Great performance, but why no Ron Verlin on bass ??...not the same doin' it with the keyboard!
+Gully Foyle Not only that but no violin?
Yep, both.
@@gullyfoyle6354 Who is the lead vocalist, I don't remember Gary West having all those muscles?
Probably, Todd Pettygrove!!
@@OTCRock4one
Who and where's the bass player??!

It's Todd Pettygrove. Didn't expect to like it without Gary West but Pettygrove does a good job IMO.
The uptown theatre, is not downtown.
Like the name says,
It's uptown -

Where is the bass player?
the keyboard player is doing the bass sounds. Their original bassist had already retired
@@2021ruber The lead singer does indeed play the Bass ! Seen him in person 2023 ameristar concert
Should have run the videos with Your uncle. FAR SUPERIOR !
Not Gary.
This is not shooting star . Sorry no Gary west no shooting star
Not the real band.
