In my experience, food is quite reasonable in Portugal however rent can be crazy especially in major urban centers, e.g. Lisbon, Porto.
Am currently in Ecuador and rent, food and so many other things are so much more reasonable. Ecuador is not for everyone but should be at least considered for cost-conscious expats.

I have watched several of your videos and it is not clear exactly where you live. I assume you live in Panama. But where? Can you show a map or videos of where you live? Also, are you apartment dwellers? You don't say. Buying a home and property in a country is way different than renting an apartment, as you know. A home requires all the supportive requirements, such as a local hardware store for repairs and tools, the amenities of the home, air conditioning, water quality and plumbing, electrical, basement, yard, etc. You say nothing about this stuff. You can't judge a country based solely upon renting an apartment. A home requires supportive infrastructure. Americans usually want to own their own home.
