    I'm South African but I've never been to Cape Town and it's a little crazy to see how touristy Cape Town is. What's even crazier is seeing the Caucasians "Enjoying" and "Observing" our culture when their ancestors tried so hard to erase it. I'm glad you had a great time though 😊❤

    I always say Black Americans or any people from African diaspora should go and stay or base in Johannesburg, Durban and inland cities where they will be in majority, u will see people like u and u will walk proud knowing u r in majority. Cape Town is just a holiday city

    Would suggest you visit Robben Island in Cape Town you'll be able to hear the whole story of South Africa... apartheid you'll see and hear about freedom fighters how they fought, executed some exiled to other African countries and how apartheid ended. My husband was one of the freedom fighter who was incarcerated in Robben Island, throughout the country there are museums where you'll be able to see how blacks South Africans were treated segregated, today south Africa has the highest number of Africans from almost every country in the continent, which shows how diverse it is before that non of them were even allowed to be in the country. Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Zambia are some of the countries that helped and housed those who escaped the country in order to fight the white regime at the time.

    I've been reading up on the history of Africa. I've always wanted to go. One of the top 3 bucket list places before I lose my sight. I got many warnings because I'm white and albino not to go and I really hope that's not the case so until I know for sure I study. I want to know the history and the culture because it's the only way I can learn true respect I think. It's such a beautiful place with amazing people. It's so important for everyone to learn our own history, the history of others and all our places in it. Its the only way we can truly begin to understand one another and effect real change love compassion and acceptance moving forward. Sorry I'm super passionate about it haha. But yeah you look amazing and looked like you had such a good time! I admire you so much for making such an amazing life for yourself. You're living what I never was able to create for myself. It's a beautiful thing. Much love admiration and respect. Now I sleep.

    New subscriber here from Cape Town, and YOU have given me the confidence to venture out and explore the city more often and to also do it solo. Your warmth and sincerity when speaking about the living conditions of the less fortunate is sooo touching and really indicates how devastating Apartheid was. When you back in Cape Town, definitely try some of my favorite activities:
    Robben Island, Cape Point which is where the 2 oceans meet, go up the Cable Cart and visit Signal Hill, visit Hout Bay for amazing fresh seafood or have a picnic at Kirstenbosch Botanical gardens

I am so privileged in that I really can't understand this and I'm sorry to those who can. Like truly I am sitting here after writing that comment and trying to imagine life without water and electric. I'm going nuts and irritated after a couple hours when the power is out and I'm such a brat about my water. It's truly humbling....wow

    Going there is like visiting Hawaii. My sister is a flight attendant and lives in Honolulu, so I got to go for my birthday last year. It's a beautiful place, with lots of greenery and you can pretty much visit any beach that you want to.
    When you see how the super wealthy have carved into the mountains to build these ultra luxurious homes, it's extremely disheartening when you know the natives live in makeshift homes on the beaches there. It started raining really bad one day and my sister, mother and I ran to her car. We ran past a group of homeless women and children that were stuck in the rain. It made me feel horrible because we take life for granted and complain about EVERYTHING here. Yet they had their land stolen from them and are forced to work service industry jobs to afford to live in semi decent areas.
    Imagine waiting on entitled foreigners that have developed your homeland, raised the price of living through the roof and made it nearly impossible to live on land that your ancestors should've had the ability to pass down to you.
    The Mormons literally own the museum that tells you about the history of Hawaii and the princess' land. It's a real eye opener to know that we can go there for leisure while they never really get to relax or enjoy their homeland.

    • @IAMASIA
      @IAMASIA  Рік тому +3

      Yes it’s very disheartening to know all of this & try to enjoy your holiday. I asked every driver (native of the continent) what do they do for fun ? In hopes to have an more authentic experience but most, if not all told me they worked 7 days a week,12+ hours days to survive . I tried to encourage them to take a little time for themselves but i quickly realized I’m speaking from a first world view

    I love how you are honest about white privilege. Cape Town is beautiful but compared to the rest of the country, it still has colonial residue. The miseducation and marginalization of the colored communities was deliberately done to create a workforce for the farms and harbors. The semi-migration of the Xhosa and Sotho people into Cape Town was economic and due to land issues plus exclusionary property prices, the townships are the only other affordable option even for the working class.

    I really wish the tour guide didn't retreat off the sidewalk onto the curb - that's like 1950's Jim Crow Louisiana USA. I don't think I'm mentally ready to visit South Africa, not with its recent history, slums and blunt racism. What exactly is the government doing to rid its cities of slums like the one you showed?

      What do mean the government is doing South Africa has 30 years of democracy yet they manage to build over 5 million houses for free,we know corruption was part of it too but we trying again slums are everywere in US people are homless dont even have that slum no country is perfect. Like im telling you now many African Americans has applied for retirement visas in South Africa ,Rome wasn't build the same day it will take time

    Oh girl... That's SA men for you. One of them I met while at the game lodge, had a wife (there are different types of marriages in SA, it's a whole rabbit hole) but was trying to get with me and convince me that she has nothing to do with "our" happiness and he could marry me, visit me in the US half the year, we could have kids and I'd never have to see his village wife. 🤨🙄 No. Absolutely not! 🤣🤣🤣 Absolutely putain not!!!
    Gold's restaurant is amazing. My group ended up at the table on the lower level right in front of the stage to the left. I was in the second chair from the stage. 😁 I LOVE their food!!! There was this veggie dish with rice that I shoved down. I can't for the life of me remember what it was called. but I'm not worried, I'm going back because there is a specific wine I need to go buy anyway. 😁Glad you enjoyed your trip. And you right... Hated the gold purse. It was giving dollar tree.

      @@IAMASIA he only got honest when I pulled up his Facebook account and other receipts that I screenshot to him. With included timelines. And he stopped attempting to contact me for a while he said it was so I could "calm down and see how marrying him is a great benefit to me". I still sent him a hell no.
