Corinth Canal, Greece 🇬🇷 - water canal connecting the Aegean Sea with the Ionian Sea [4K]

The Corinth Canal is undoubtedly the most famous water canal in Greece. Without a doubt, its location, the entire panorama and its construction make a huge impression in real life.
The Corinth Canal cuts off the Peloponnesian Peninsula from mainland Greece, turning it de facto into an island, and connects the Saronic Gulf with the Gulf of Corinth. It was dug at the narrowest point of the short isthmus that was the only connection between the Peloponnese and the rest of Greece.
The canal is approximately 6.4 kilometers long, just over 21 meters wide and up to 79-90 meters high. Its walls are cut at such a small angle that when viewed from above, they may seem almost straight. Interestingly, it was dug at sea level and does not have locks, which initially posed quite a problem for shipowners - different tide times in both bays lead to strong tidal currents in the canal itself.
However, the crossing is too narrow for the needs of today's world, as ships with a width exceeding approximately 18 m cannot pass through it. Nowadays, the Corinth Canal is mainly used by smaller vessels or tourist ships. Obviously, there is one-way traffic, and the largest vessels must be towed by a special tug ship.
