Hi, from Japan. Thx for another great reviewing. I’m using 250 with 50s2 which has much slower AF comparing with 100s. You might know already but I’ll share my 2 tips for taking birds with 250 based on my experience.
1: Enable boost mode which speeds up AF speed. (I guess 100s has the option too.)
2: Use the focus range limit switch. (It will also increase the initial focus speed.)
I used to use X system and xf90 was my favorite lens. I feel like the similar taste from gf250 and love this lens too.
Your channel is one of my favorites youtube channel in global which covers GF system wide and deep. Appreciate your great work!

Hello, thanks so much for the suggestion and taking the time to leave a comment. I never played with the boost options, I will give it a try!

If you were using a Tripod, you must turn off the IBIS on the camera and the lens Stabilization. I have the GFX50SII and GFX50R with the GF100-200 and GF45-100. Both lenses have IS, and the IS on a Tripod does weird things.

Yep, the GF lenses tend to be heavy but I love them and the GFX100. I don't take them out on the street very much, or maybe I use them in town where I can drive pretty close to where I will be shooting. For this senior guy, walking in NYC with that setup would be a killer. I know, I used to work in the Wall Street district. I would go with my X-T4 (no battery grip) and a small, light 35mm fast lens. However, using the GF250 out here in the Arizona desert would be pretty cool. I have been thinking about getting one, but I will wait for a Fuji rebate. Thanks for posting this video. Good job.

Hey George and fellow New Yorker! even for non senior guys… the GF setup is very heavy! And i'm a competitive powerlifter ha! You really cant beat the X system for size and weight. I have went on a few road trips with my XH1 and 4 lenses (50-140, 8-16, 23mm 1.4 and 80mm, and its prob the same weight as the GFX 100s with 2 lenses ha! I haven't purchased the 250mm yet. I think I want to do a part 2 to this video, because while I dreaded bringing that lens around, it was just the nicest bokeh I have ever experienced. Thank you so much for your comment and watching the video, glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks for the interesting review. I am a great fan of this lens, I think it is the second best in the GF line-up after the 110mm f2. Especially paired with the GFX100 or 100s, which have the phase detect AF, I think it has enough focus speed to make full use of the linear motors. I took many great shots with this lens, making it worth carrying. I also made panoramas with it, which is awesome, as the super highly detailed close-ups create panoramas you can zoom into forever and discover ever more detail. Not the first lens to buy for your GFX as it is a niche, but definitely a fantastic lens.

Glad you found the lens interesting, and very interesting that you'd rate this lens at #2 after the 110mm! Panos too?! If you're on IG - feel free to shoot me a message there. I'd love to see some of your work Edwin!

Why didn't you increase the ISO when shooting the birds to get a faster shutter speed? And why did stop the aperture down to f/9 for the Statue of Liberty?

Unsure. It was super cold out, and a while ago! Don't remember.

IS BOTH ON CAMERA AND ON LENS NEED TO BE DEACTIVATED FOR LONG EXPOSURE. TRY IT AND YOU WILL UNDERSTAND THAT YOUR CONCLUSION IN THIS VIDEO IS INCORRECT, DROVE ME CRAZY BUT SOON SUSSED IT. LET ME KNOW HOW IT GOES. NICE VID

I did both, I think it was just really hard to see the subject and it was too zoomed in to really tell in person. Easier in post. Hopefully I get my hands on this lens again to make a part 2 and try again! Thanks for watching!

Thanks so much Dylan! I just bought the 100s, didn't decide on a lens just yet! Fuji is going to send me a few lenses for my trip in September, so I didn't purchase anything just yet. But so far, I am going to purchase the 120mm for studio work (basically leave it at my studio) and the 110mm. I am hyper interested in the 20-35mm.

@@MikeBanom My most used lens outdoor is the 45-100mm f4, absolutely gorgeous zoom lens and the best of the 4 zooms currently available.

@@Edwin-- I really want to try this lens! The thing that stops me - I will buy the 110mm. And I am currently testing out the 45mm. If I own both, it would seem kind of painful to buy this zoom. Of course you get all the range in between, but just the point of the matter. I will absolutely try it though! I was not impressed with the 100-200 at all.

Hello. Great video. But I was surprised to see your lunar experience with the GF 250. I say this because as the owner of one, my best Moon shots come from this very lens - and they are simply extraordinary. As others have already pointed out it is very easy to get it wrong. A good tripod, right shutter speeds, electronic (front curtain), pin sharp infinity focus and crucially IBIS and OIS off (fundamental with this lens, or you WILL see what a mechanical shutter can do) etc etc. But I also wonder if the copy of your lens may have had an issue because I have NEVER got any chromatic aberration with this lens and the Moon - I mean, zilch. Good luck next time, I’m very certain you will learn this lens DOES shine when it comes to photographing the Moon.

Thanks for the comment, and I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Interesting! Would you care to share some additional settings? I would love to try this again. I think ultimately though - you are cropping in so heavily into the image. Did you ever try with the 1.4x TC? Do you have an Instagram? Feel free to shoot me a message, would love to discuss! @mikebanom

With high megapixel cameras and especially long lenses yoúll get shuttershock. Most of this issue happens between 1/60s and 1s. To avoid this just select electronic front shutter.

Thanks for your comment Denis! Yes! I actually had a big issue with this using the GF120mm in the studio. After about 40 mins, I had to switch to ES. I am fairly certain i did that here, but apparently LR doesn't show you the type of shutter used. Will make a point to switch the shutter next time I put this lens on a tripod! Thanks again.

@@MikeBanom To rotate the tripod collar on the lens 180 degrees... well, how you carry a lens and shoot with it is a matter of personal preference. This lens pairs well with a monopod, provided no tripod is needed for long exposures, and therefore I'd like to keep the tripod collar with the tripod support at the bottom.
