    I guess it depends on the use case, but I love the 50mm for how small it is. The shortcomings not a big deal. F3.5 is totally fine for environmental stuff like in street photography, when dark you can exposure compensate to freeze action as with new systems these days it really doesn’t matter that much, quality has not been an issue. For street is perfect. Anything else just draws too much attention which I hate to do :P

    Great video, feels like some overlap but definitely a tuned kit for your style. When the new 500 gets here next week my kit will be finished as well.
    - 20-35mm f4
    - 45mm f2.8
    - 100-200mm f5.6
    - 110mm f2
    - 500mm f5.6
    I’ve been in the system since 2019 so if I had to start over I would probably get all the same lenses but would be very tempted to go with the 55mm f1.7 over the 45mm f2.8

      @MikeBanom  2 місяці тому +1

      110 & 120 being the overlap?
      Solid selection sir! The 45mm is nice for a lightweight lens though. The 55 is a bit less fun for a grab and go lens, but I do think the 55 has a bit more character than the 45.

    • @keithherrin3098

      @@MikeBanom I think I missed that the 50mm f3.5 wasn't part of the kit so the 110f2/120f4 and 55/50 were my thoughts. Of course the 110f2 and 120f4 are used for very different things so it's probably not fair to call it true overlap. I feel like my 20-35 eats into the times I would otherwise bring along the 45 and since getting the 110f2 I sometimes feel the same with it over the 100-200, so I would probably feel the same with the 120/110 combination.
      Completely agree with the size/weight savings on the 45 vs 55. I also feel like if I can only bring one lens I would rather have the 45 than the 55 just to get the goldilocks feeling with weight, fov, and aperture. That being said, I do like the idea of a 20-35/55 kit being thrown in a sling for city travel...
      Do you think you would ever consider switching out the 120 for the 110 TS lens?

    • @MikeBanom
      @MikeBanom  2 місяці тому +1

      @@keithherrin3098 Ah ok gotcha!
      On my recent trip to Hawaii, naturally I was switching between the 20-35 and 55 for landscapes and what not. Sometimes the wide zoom was too wide. But I kind of felt the same as you - I don't want the wide to eat in to my magical 55mm time. lol. (or 45mm for you)
      To be honest, I have never used a TS for studio/product work. And I'm not at the point where I could justify the upgrade since its super expensive. But… I would never say I wouldnt consider it ;)

    I would love to hear your thoughts on how it compares to the original 100s. I'm curious as to whether the new AF, EVF, X-Processor 5, etc. are enough to persuade someone just getting into the GFX system to choose the newer model for $5000 over perhaps a used 100s for $3000.

    100% agree that a wide aperture wide angle lens would be a good place for the GFX system to go for future lens development; a ~35mm f/2 or faster would likely be a day one purchase for me, particularly if the minimum focus distance is comparable to the 20-35mm f/4 and 23mm f/4.
    I respect the opinion but have different feelings on the 50mm f/3.5, optically it's pleasing enough, it may well be the fastest focusing lens in the system, and the size/weight lends itself so well to travel that it's hard to imagine not bringing the 50mm with me if I'm jetsetting with the GFX. The lens has managed to almost completely uproot the 32-64mm f/4 from my travel kit.
    Btw, for macro work, I've found that the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS adapts very well to GFX and is a great 1, 2 punch with the 110mm f/2 for any subjects closer than the 110mm's minimum focus distance. The 100L has essentially full coverage of the GFX sensor at typical macro working distances, will do 1:1, and and even the corners sharpen up nicely at the narrow apertures often used for close up work (i.e., f/8 and smaller). The proper manual focus ring is a nice benefit in the studio as well. I already had the Canon lens when I bought into the GFX system in 2017 and am glad I tried it on my old 50S; it completely took away my desire for the 120mm f/4.

      Whoa! I have yet to try the 50mm 1.0. But very much noted. I'd love to get my hands on this to try.
      Glad you said the GF55 has great AF. So many people say its not great and I'm a bit confused. I always found it to be very decent (on GFX standards)
      Have you ever tried the GF250? I'd say the bokeh is absolutely INSANE on that lens. Blows the 110 away.

    105mm f/2.5 Nikkor
    105mm f/2.8 macro Nikkor

    I own 32-64, 55, 45-100, 100-200. I've had all primes before with other systems. To each their own, but IQ from today's zooms (IMHO) are very difficult to discern from primes, especially GF Lenses. All of my zooms are razor sharp and a joy to use. Even with f4, image stabilization on the GFX 100 II goes up to 8 stops with some lenses. The least is 5.5 stops (of the ones I own) with my 100-200, which I'll use a tripod the vast majority of the time. With my 55 f1.7, Fuji effectively killed the 45 and 63.

    Hi interesting to here your thought on the 20-35 but in this video the 20-35 vs the 23 the 23 seem to blow the 20-35 out of the water at least from the only comparison video I've found on YT, but I like the focal length as with this and the 45-100 basically covers all my needs, but the I can now get the 23 used for $1600 and Fuji has a $500 discount on the 20-35 that makes my final decision harder but if you on anyone have an opinion I'd like to here it. ua-cam.com/video/_FW4v7azfMo/v-deo.htmlsi=gq3c9ySHAhRZB5jt

      @MikeBanom  Місяць тому +1

      I forget if i mentioned in this video or not, but I have a comparison coming out in the next couple of weeks hopefully on the GF20-35 vs GF23. At a quick skim of the video you sent - he makes 2 really valid points. The GF23 def has less distortion. But in all my tests, the wide zoom is sharper edge to edge by a long shot to the GF23. GF23 has less distortion, but the corners tend on being soft. Good point on potentially not needing an ND with the GF23 going up to f32. But me personally, if I'm doing long exposure, I would always have my ND filters, so not something that matters to me personally.
      Whats funny is you touch on a great point for price. If you can get a killer deal on the 23 used, and price is the determining factor… i would go with the 23. I have the comparison actually 99% done, and its funny because i brought this up in the conclusion lol
