I have paraplegia and have been told I need a hip replacement. The surgeon told me I needed to lose weight. I'm 75 so, apart from the paraplegia, I obviously can't exercise. In just under a year I've lost 5 stone, simply by cutting out sugar and cutting down portion size.
Well done, I've always worked but was morbidly obese. I've lost 8.5 stone this year by getting off my arse and walking up to 10 km+ per day and changing my eating habits. It's not that hard, but you have to be in the right state of mind to be able to have the focus to continue to do it. I'm now the lightest I've been for over 20 years...

I've suffered a heart attack and diabettes and i still go to work so people claiming they are too sick or unfit to work, then it needs to be investigated properly to verify it. I'm overweight. Aged 60. Worked since 18 (if you count Saturday jobs aged 16). Time off sick negligible. Less than 4 weeks over that time. Being overweight doesn't stop people working. Laziness, lack of work ethic and poor parenting (how many have parents on benefits?). I wonder what their school attendance record was like???

I worked in an environment where 90% of the workforce were overweight. Fatness doesn’t cause laziness, lack of decent wages causes apathy and lack of decent wages where working makes one worse off than being on the dole does not lead to healthy life choices. Taking a walk after being on your feet all day doesn’t aid weight loss, neither does necking back the coffee every break time to stay focussed do many favours. Many jobs are sedentary at a desk without the time to kick back and get some fresh air. And portion sizes eating out have increased but not as much as the prices. The cost of living has exploded and parents have less kids juggling job/ home life and security flew the nest a long time ago.

It's not the amount of food you eat it's the type of food you eat. Everything you eat is a fat a protein or a carbohydrate. Fats and protein are the natural diet for humans and they fill you and you do not have the urge to eat more. Carbohydrates (including sugar, seed oils etc) cause you to be fat and can be found in a multitude of fast foods. Just change what you eat and stay healthy and slim.

West African Slave Trade: Europeans arrived in west Africa c. 1650, and British engagement in the trade lasted till about 1800 (before spending the next 130 years shutting it down with the RN). The european merchants simply anchored offshore and traded muskets and manufactured goods for slaves, because of course those African nations already had a thriving slave trade from about 800 AD. So while of the c. 13 million slaves taken overseas in the West African Trade about 2500000 were transported by British merchants, it is true to say that ALL 13 million were captured and sold by West African rulers.
Portugal, France, Italy, Denmark, Netherlands, Spain and even Austria were involved in slaver long before the English! Portugal bought & exported 6 million slaves to Brazil alone!
Intrestingly, when people talk about 'slavery' from the past, the Third Reich never get a mention !!
