21 years is a long time to wait for any new release and Peter Gabriel has never been one to burden the public with anything but sheer quality . He takes his time and when his albums are finally on the open market you realise why . His last great album of pure orginal songs was way back in 2002 with UP ' and even then that was a collection of songs that he had first recorded for the 'US' solo project in 1993. Everything he has ever done since 1977 has been so original and unique - He is someone very special who stands tall in the music world . 'SO' back in 1986 was a real game changer and made him a very wealthy man , he is very lucky in that because of his wealth ( 2023 estimated to be around £189 million ) he doesn't have to 'cow tow' to the macinations of the record industry . He is important for so many reasons , his work with 'WOMAD and 'world music' bringng artists to the fore for whom other wise wouldn't be heard , his studio in Bath , his record label 'Real World ' and his ongong activity for many political issues around the world . He does appear to be 'one of the good guys ' in our convoluted mixed up world . His fan base around the world is massive he still continues to tour and his shows are always very special . His musical peers are small in number ( they know who they are ) and 'can't hold a candle to his creativity' , there was one but sadly he died in 2016 ( R.I.P Starman) - For me he is one fo the greats and now at the age of 73 he is still relevant and still very important . Thanks Peter for the decades , for the soundtrack to my adult life and with a nod to early Genesis " Me I'm an electric lawnmower , you can me tell by the way I walk "- I will sign off .- NB 'The Lamb Lies Down On Bradway ' is still one greatest prog albums ever recorded !
OMG Peter Gabriel!!! You’re back! I’ve loved you for SO long & have missed you so very much I WILL attend your concert at all cost You & your beautiful voice are just what I need to help me heal!!!
Long live Peter Gabriel, true essence of universal music. You were the soundtrack of my adolescence, you broke my heart when you left Genesis but then I realized that breaking the chains was the right way to fly high.
It's time for Peter Gabriel to be knighted. His musical and humanitarian contributions are second to none. He's a gentleman who doesn't rest on his laurels and who always looks forward even at the age of 73 when most of his peers have long retired. "Of these, hope"
He manages to create new and fresh music while still being authentic to his own style. No rehashing or impersonating. This really shows what an incredible musician he is.
My apologies, Sir, thought you had retired. This one blew me away. So classic, and yet so fresh. Simply freakin' out about those vocals when the chorus kicks in: "Panopticom". The PG brand mark never shone brighter. Could listen to this forever. Deep bow. Thank you.
Peter seems to retire periodically.....not retired per se, but more incubating only to emerge again. But it has been a while. Still, it seems to have been worth the wait.
According to a press release, ‘Panopticom’ has been released on a full moon and future songs from his 10th studio album will also come out on the night of a full moon. 1:35 [NME]
So good to finally have new music from one of music's most creative minds! Nobody better synthesizes ALL the fine arts better than PG. Saw him 30 years ago during the Us tour, and it still reigns supreme as the best and most complete live performance I have ever experienced.
I don't recall all of the line-up, but it was promoting the 'Us' album so I'm pretty certain it was most of those same musicians that recorded that with him. Tony Levin was definitely one of them, and I believe Manu Katche too. He also featured Paula Cole in place of Sinead O'Connor's parts, and she was awesome. That may have helped launch her own solo career right after that. This was in 1993, I believe.

Peter has always been nothing less than excellent. And I *love* his range, showing us he can be somber and serious, then pivot on a dime to letting his hair down and just having fun with a song. What a brilliant talent to have, with the foundation of a great voice. Good show, Peter! 👍
Was driving this morning, then suddenly a fantastic sound on radio, guess it was Rockaby station and i was suddenly thinking : man this is something you know and it just got better and better and outstanding. YEAH, PANOPTICOM was played. I tell you, the masterpiece, amazing, just perfect. ✊️👏 yeah a gift to humanity that is
Your cd “Darkness” saved my will to survive. Thank you for sharing your insight through your music, without it, I don’t know if I could carry on. My father is equally a huge fan… brought him back to life after his stroke… I thank God that I don’t feel utterly alone. ❤️🩹🙏🎶

Long live Peter Gabriel, true essence of universal music. You were the soundtrack of my adolescence, you broke my heart when you left Genesis but then I realized that breaking the chains was the right way to fly high.
Yes, it broke my heart when I read the headline"GABRIEL QUITS GENESIS"
It's time for Peter Gabriel to be knighted. His musical and humanitarian contributions are second to none. He's a gentleman who doesn't rest on his laurels and who always looks forward even at the age of 73 when most of his peers have long retired. "Of these, hope"
Add Mike Oldfield to your list.
This version is THE best side! It's classic Peter Gabriel and that makes me very happy!
Master Gabriel - you're the diamond that shines far - differs much from all of today's programmed-to-the-masses music
The poem lost some of it's beauty at the end.
The diamond...right word 💥💯
Well said ! 👏👏👏👏👏😝
How is this song not getting more likes, this Gabriel at his finest
People don't realize the impact he made on music 30 plus years ago
Is that all that concerns you..brainwashed
Because people don't understand good music anymore...

i/o is 12 tracks of grace, gravity and great beauty that provide welcome confirmation of not only Peter’s ongoing ability to write stop-you-in-your-tracks songs but also of that thrilling voice, still perfectly, delightfully intact.
To even reach this point, the 73-year-old artist had to take some baby steps.
First was releasing a new song on each full moon of 2023: a recurring, self-imposed deadline that drip-fed the album steadily to his ever-patient audience.
He also booked himself a world tour, where he performed nearly every song from the as-yet-unreleased record each night.
Delivered between long monologues about the state of the modern world and the potential benefits of artificial intelligence and, of course, in between the select hits from his back catalogue, Gabriel asked fans to confront this work-in-progress material as a living, breathing art project before encountering it a long-awaited entry in his discography.
Throughout the album the intelligent and thoughtful, often thought-provoking songs tackle life and the universe.

While reflective, the mood is never despondent; i/o is musically adventurous, often joyous and ultimately full of hope, topped off as it is, by the rousingly optimistic closing song, Live and Let Live.
Recorded mostly at Real World Studios and Peter’s home studio, the lengthy gestation of i/o means it has a sizeable cast list.
Peter has kept his trusty inner circle of musicians close to hand, which means guitarist David Rhodes, bassist Tony Levin and drummer Manu Katché are sterling presences throughout.
Several songs bear the fingerprints of long-time associate Brian Eno, whilst there are notable contributions from Richard Russell, pianist Tom Cawley, trumpeters Josh Shpak and Paolo Fresu, cellist Linnea Olsson and keyboard player Don E.
Peter’s daughter Melanie contributes warm backing vocals, as does Ríoghnach Connolly of The Breath, while Real World regulars Richard Chappell, Oli Jacobs, Katie May and Richard Evans collectively provide programming and play various instruments.

Renowned for being a boundary-pushing artist, i/o is not simply a collection of a dozen songs.
All 12 tracks are subject to two stereo mixes: the Bright-Side Mix, handled by Mark ‘Spike’ Stent, and the Dark-Side Mix, as reshaped by Tchad Blake.
We we go was two of the great mixes from Tchad and Spike and they definitely bring different characters to the songs.
Tchad is very much a sculptor building a journey with sound and drama, whereas Spike loves sound and assembling these pictures, so he’s more of a painter.
