I got a dryer some years ago, and it might be the best thing I've gotten for my 3d prints. I dry every roll of filament now, even brand new out of the bag.

I'd probably consider getting one, if i hadn't already backed the new sunlu s4 on kickstarter. Fingers crossed that one turns out decent 🤞

That one was really interesting me too!

Tpu and nylon are gonna give you the best examples, since they are more hygroscopic. I still recommend simple tupperware + dessicant for printing tpu, and a convection oven to dry it

I tested 4 filament dryboxes, like this, vs Rubbermaid 21 cups...they dryers better at removing moisture from the air than the filament, but a good way to keep you from picking up more moisture during the print. I run a TPU farm, so we constantly battle moisture

Yeah TPU can get nasty when wet. So you haven’t found that dryers help you in any way remove moisture from the filament once it’s already wet? All desiccant will do is help to prevent it from getting moisture in the first place but once the filament is wet the desiccant won’t do anything.

@ButterPockets yup, the more dessicant, the more effective the drybox was at preventing more moisture being absorbed. The dryers helped with absorbtion, but had almost most no effect on removing water (did all my measurements with a 0.01 gram scale). For removing moisture, the food dehydrators are the best value, but also very slow. The convection oven was the best, but might be overkill if you're not running a profession farm that's constantly working with TPU / nylon

“Since this experiment didn’t turn out the way I wanted to” is not something you say about an experiment :/

Why not? I tested something and it didn’t turn out the way I expected so I tried something else. I could have lied or hidden that from you guys. I wanted to show that not everything I try works because I’m sure people relate to that. It’s important to try even if it doesn’t work.

Sure you do, this is science. You make a hypothesis, you do an experiment to try to prove this hypothesis, and based on the results of that experiment you may or may not prove it, or the experiment may even have inconclusive results. You document your results, and come up with another experiment.
