I absolutely still love this song till This day ❤️ Phillipe Wynne WAS and still is My favorite singer in the group. Heavenly sent love from My heart to theirs.✝️🛐☮️💟💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏I just wish they would have shown THEM singing This song.🤷🏽
This kind of music will never be duplicated.. Kieth Sweat, Gerald Levert, Jodeci, Jahiem , Dave Hollister and Johnny Gill tried to keep it going in the late 80' and 90's but NOW all these little Gen Xers want to sing about money, cars, sex and drugs... What a shame... They are missing out on the Greatest Music EVER produced.
Who is up for the Philippe Wynnes appreciation society? Lets get him the worldwide recognition he never received. I could never repay your love, Love don't love nobody, He should be standing up there with Ray Charles, Al Green, Jackie Wilson. Knocks Luther into a cocked hat
Alan Bennett Hey man, that's one of the best songs they ever did, in my opinion. No girls in the background singing for them, just Philipe, Bobby, and Henry doing their thing. If you can harmonize, it's a great song to throw in a baritone note on the chorus....LOL
Mr. Wynn was if not one of the greatest singers in the world that can carry a song to the fullest of the fullest. He was and still is my favorite singers among the others
On this day in 1974 {November 2nd} the Spinners performed "Love Don't Love Nobody" on the late Dick Clark's American Bandstand... Two months earlier on September 21st it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #15 and spent 13 weeks on the Top 100... It reached #4 on Billboard's R&B Singles chart and #34 on the Canadian RPM Tracks chart... Lead singer Philippé Wynne passed away on July 14th, 1984 at age 43... R.I.P. Mr. Philippe and Mr. Clark {1929-2012}...
I grew up on this music. It reminds me of Moms and Pops card games when we lived in SE DC years ago. You'd hear this type of music in the close knit community. Great memories.
Philippe Wynne was the man, but Bobby Smith was the heart and soul of The Spinners, and he was their "go-to" man. He sung lead on more of their bigger, crossover hits, like "I'll Be Around", "Could It Be I'm Falling In Love", "Games People Play", and "Then Came You" with Dionne. Philippe was by far the more popular lead on their harder soul material like this song and Sadie, I Could Never Repay Your Love, and Mighty Love (sharing lead with Bobby). I don't mean to sound like a Black group has to sell to White audiences to get over, but it definitely helps in record sales. Berry Gordy knew that, and that's what made Motown the most successful record company in the world at the time. Thom Bell always went for the more "pop" sound with The Spinners and The Stylistics. Bobby had a more appealing voice for the type of music Thom Bell wanted to sell. Without Bobby Smith, The Spinners never would have been as big as they eventually were.
+oldschoolsinger For me, one of the biggest differences btwn Bobby and Philippe is that Philippe sounded the same live as he did in the studio. Bobby, singing live, always seemed to sound a bit breathy or out of breath (probably the adrenalin rush from the audience), but it didn't affect Philippe. Another key difference is that Bobby couldn't bring it home at the end of a song. He couldn't bring the horse back to the barn the way Philippe could bring it home. That's an old school church background thang. Some can do it and some can't do it.
cree8tive Cree8tive, I agree with you. Bobby didn't have a very strong voice by the time they got with Atlantic. By then his voice sounded much different than when he sung songs like Truly Yours during the Motown days. And I wasn't trying to take anything from Philippe. He was one of the most original singers in the history of soul music. My point was that they could always count on Bobby to pull them through on those big Motown-type crossover hits. Philippe did have the church sound and that played out fine for Black audiences. But Thom Bell was never about only Black audiences. He produced pop-flavored soul and Bobby's voice fit that style much better. But you're right sir, Philippe was definitely the more soulful of the two and he was the man. They never would have been as big as they were without him.
Bobby Smith was a fabulous vocalist, with a true commercial sound, meaning that he was always on pitch, had that unique vibrato, and he could dance his butt off. Philippe was the poet, the ad-libber, the beautiful phrasing, & the gutsy take-it-on-home to church singer. They worked so well together, and on a couple of songs, I can't tell who's singing what.
This for my boy John, keep your head up my brother. She done you wrong after all you did for her, but that's how it is when True Love is to the Bone. Phillipe' sings this song so that you can learn.
I LOVE THESE GUYS JUST LISTEN TO THE SOUND THEY PUTTIN DOWN THEIRS NOTHING LIKE THE MIGHTY MIGHTY SPINNERS POINT BLANK AND I PUT THAT ON EVERYTHING I LOVE...
Philippe was the david ruffin of the spinners bobby smith was good for their mid tempo stuff along herry frambrough but even with john Edwards they never was the same even though disco had become big you needed that soul sound a lot of artist crossed over and it worked but for some it didn't you have to have a balance because once you lose your home base that it
This is the song, it reminds of Bridgeport Connecticut all those parties and the mens in my life. Some I love and some I did not. and put me in mind o Horace Whaley from Philly.
I love this song! I been listening to this song for a long time. I am fool right now. and was, Because love will have you a fool. Love can be blinding. But when you hear this song, you Love don't love nobody.
+Regina Wooten Sorry to hear that. You can't open up all the way until you are sure the love is real and true. No matter how good the sex is. I've been there and done that. It hurts and I mean to the core. Hope you can over come your hurt.
