So here is the recipe: Two Cups Dried Black Eyed Peas SOAKED OVER NIGHT IN WATER. Put the soaked black eyed peas over three small turkey or ham hocks on the bottom of a large crock pot. Over that put half a chopped yellow onion and one chopped bell pepper. Pour in a few cups chicken stock and enough water to cover the beans etc. Turn on the crock pot to LOW and cover. Add two bay leafs and 1/2 teaspoon oregano and 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper and black pepper. Add about 5 cloves chopped garlic. Add two stalks chopped celery. Cook for five hours than add 1 teaspoon salt and some smoked paprika. IF YOU START THIS AT 6AM IT WILL BE DONE AROUND 5PM if on slow the whole time. YOWZER!!!
I did this New years day and they came out soooooooo delicious, Thank you for this receipe. I printed it out and it now sits among my favorites. Happy New Year beloved.
I stumbled upon this and got up and started making this lol. Had everything in my kitchen. Had no plans to make this.Going to have black eyed peas on new years day. How convenient.
Thank you so much! Total rookie here and I've never made black eyed peas in my life but I am trying to eat healthier. This was an easy recipe to follow--although my butcher did not know what "turkey tips" are--and the end result rival'd anything my Grandma used to make (and thats saying something). Appreciate you keeping it brief and simple for us newbees.
My husband loves black eye peas. I want them to be better than the basic boiling peas. So I found this recipe. OMG!!!! I love them. These are the best black eye peas, I’ve ever had!!!
You should make some shorts. I've noticed that a lot of cooking channels are blowing up with the shorts. Some day I think that I'm going to try this recipe. Looks delicious.
10/7/22: Your beans look absolutely wonderful, and I was salivating for sure watching you hooking them up, but I've never heard of anyone putting brown sugar in BEP, but I will add a little bit when I make them this afternoon. There must be a reason why you do, so I'm always game for trying something new; love to cook. P.S. Loved the background music! It gave me a visual, in black and white, of sitting at a bar looking absolutely gorgeous with a drink in one hand, cigarette in another (and I don't smoke) watching the band play. LOL, and I know you are too! TFS, 80 Cooks...WHOO-HOO!!
What did u call the oregono, cayenne pepper, pepper, thyme etc that was all seasoning done at the beginning of video. Why did you say you didn't add seasoning until end? I'm confused
Brainjock I need to get another slow cooker 😥😥😥 used the crock pot to make something else....left the the food in the crock pot longer than it needed to be....instead of dealing with it.... I threw the entire crock pot in the trash.
OMG I’m making this at the last minute. I haven’t got all the ingredients. Will it taste ok w out Bay leaves, oregano, celery and just reg paprika instead of smoked?? 😞

too much seasoning. You can crockpot delicious blackeye peas using salt, pepper, and bacon, and onions only. all that seasoning takes away from the flavor of the peas.
@@80Cooks yoooooo I thought you were being funny by saying Paul LMFAOOOOOOOOOO but that’s really his name ahahahahahahhahahaha why is my humor like this 😂😂😂😂😂

Eyeball it to the best of your ability that's what I usually do the meat will help a lot to give it flavor, don't be afraid give it try. 😊

You mean oregano? My bad I meant to say salt.
Always sweat your vegetables first. Brings out the flavors more.
What do you mean by sweat veggies, please?

too much seasoning. You can crockpot delicious blackeye peas using salt, pepper, and bacon, and onions only. all that seasoning takes away from the flavor of the peas.
Ok did you taste them paul? Turned out rather fine to me. But thanks for the comment.
Extra seasoning doesn't take anything away from the flavor. Makes is not so basic. Those peas looks delicious 😋!
