  • It's finally here on the channel!! The NEW Tamiya BBX on the NEW BB-01 Chassis! I just LOVE the look of this car and I think this will be a true performer in the world of Tamiya buggies.
This has been designed from the ground up! It uses a very strong (and actually quite heavy) plastic base that you then use to build a full roll cage on top of. It's a very very cool design!
This kit also comes with a FULL set of ball bearings! Thank you Tamiya as most Tamiya kits only come with brass bushings and plastic bearings. So you're going to save some money on upgrading this right off the bat.
However, please note that I believe this kit is designed for the seasoned R/C enthusiast. Why? Well, if you're a beginner or novice we are used to the kits coming with everything you need to get going minus the transmitter and standard size steering servo. For the BBX, you'll need an ESC (electronic speed controller, motor, and a low profile servo. Furthermore, you'll need to be careful what motor you purchase as not all motors will work due to the length of the pinion shaft that is needed for the BBX. So that's something to watch out for. The big question you'll need to ask yourself is do you use a brushed or brushless system with this car? The jury is still out on that one but my plan is to go with a brushless system. But I'll talk about that more in a later video as I'm still sourcing items I want to complete this kit.
The other question you'll need to ask yourself is "Do I get the available slipper clutch?" Hmmmmmm...I don't have an answer yet as I'm still working on this question too. Time will tell.
In this first video of the build series I will explain why it's taken me so long to get started and give you my initial thoughts on the the kit as well as go over what additional items you'll need to buy if you decide to get a BBX for yourself. Then I'll take you through the manual so you know what to expect.
And lastly, if you are going to, or have already purchased a BBX, be sure to subscribe and click the notification button so you can follow along with the build series.
In this video we will do steps 1 and 2 of the build. I won't spend much time on step 1 as it's just charging the battery and as you all know I don't bother with this step so early in the build. So most of the video will be devoted to step 2 where we will build the ball differential. There are a lot of pieces to this step so this is going to be a long video.
    Now...let's get to it!

I know it's their high end buggy and they want it going brushless, but the signs're there Tamiya's changing to the Deans T-plugs.
Jupp, another method of greasing the balls, but your's work, so everything's fine.
    Great video Freddy

It's true Dirk...I was surprised to see that in the manual as well. Guess we'll see because it they are I'm sure we'll start seeing more of the Deans plug showing up in future kit manuals. Anyway...thanks for watching! This will be a fun build...it's been a bit challenging for what I want to do with it but you'll see what I mean in the next few steps :)

@@Flogge11 awesome! Another kit that comes with a full set of ball bearings. I haven’t looked into it yet but do you know what motor comes with it? I feel it comes with something a bit more special rather than a torque or sport tuned.

@@FastFreddyRC Independent front suspension, full bearings, GT tuned motor, and the tyres are different. No arrows, so no right or wrong way to install them like regular Hotshot.

@@Flogge11 ah! a GT tuned motor…that’s awesome! Ok that’s a nice addition to the kit for sure. Interesting about the tires…but as a whole I’d say that kit is definitely great value for the $$$
