- My Husqvarna Z254 F stopped moving in the middle of cutting the yard. The tensioner was still intact, so I dug in further and found the belt had jumped under the fan on the RH hydrostatic unit. Here's how I diagnosed and repaired it, although the belt should probably be replaced now..
You Sir, are my Hero today, this is a great contribution and solved my problem Thank you
fantastic, glad to help! Make sure your idler pulley is ok
This is exactly what was happening to my mower. My belt was still on but was loose. Looked at tension spring and looked okay. My tensioner was stuck in loose position. Moved it over and reconnected spring and all was good. You just saved me probably $300 or more. Thanks and be safe!!!
that’s awesome!
evidently this happens alot on these mowers I want my john deere mower back
Its always good to have a spare, lol
Hi, thanks for share your experiences with us. Could you tell me the parte number, serial number or characteristics of belt? I need to change it.
Thanks un advance.
Regards from Argentina
Your idler pully is toast! Look at 1:05 and the view of the idler pully shows the plastic has worn thru-you can see the belt thru the pully. I have a Z246 and have now replaced that pully 3 times, this last time with a steel idler pully. I think the sealed bearing siezes up, the pully stops turning, and the belt wears thru the plastic. Ever wonder why a two-pack of this item is available? It will fail.
you’re exactly right! The belt came off again and I discovered the pulley thinking the belt had broken ua-cam.com/video/p2JVajZkpUo/v-deo.html:
My idler pulley just gave up the ghost! Where did you get the steel pulley replacement?

@@tonyjhall6449 thanks!
Thank u save me lots of $$
I'm so glad, thanks for the feedback!
Thank you ! Your video is Very Helpful !
You're very welcome!
My plastic cooling fins are getting in between the belt and pully making a lot of vibration. Is this a common problem on the new excite 350.
that doesn’t sound right, are they loose or is something bent?
My fan is under the pully but the tips of the fan blades are catching between the pully and the belt.
@@lonnienewsome2001 the only way that can happen is if they are bent or loose enough to wobble on their axle. Do you have any pics?
My mower was working then died I try turning it on it clicks and wont start fan won’t move either help😢
Battery is dead most likely
Is it the safety interlock on the handles?
Awesome!!!! My hero!! Very good explanations!!!
I’m so glad I was able to help you out!
Thanks man just found out my belt was on the wrong way. Now its circulating fine.. One question what are those round wheel things called i think the move the wheels. I see im missing on lol
Unfortunately all it takes is one minute to ruin the belt .
I have a pz6029 60 inch deck. Drive belt broke. I used your diagram, looks right, but the left side isn’t working. What could be wrong
did you hit something that could have damaged anything? did the belt come off the left pulley? is the tension ok?
Always keep a spare drive belt it takes less than a minute to ruin the belt.
Tensioner pivot looks seized. Taryl has a video to put a grease fitting in.
It moves freely but thanks for the tip!
I have the exact same z254f model with the same issue. No damege to the fan. Thanks for the diagram. Could've find anything in the manual or online till this video. Thanks. This will be my fix. Bty. The fans seem like worst approach with it being cheap plastic.
hanks Glen, glad this helped you out! I've got another video in the queue with some updates. I moved the tensioner spring to the vertical riser where the fuel line is and lost the belt again the next time I mowed. I thought the belt was weakened by the mower running with the belt off of the pulley, but it turned out that the idler pulley had worn through when the belt came off of that hydrostatic gear. I replaced the pulley and belt, did a belt change video at the same time, but I need to upload it still. Check your idler before you reassemble it to save some time.
@@wecanfixit7308 I am at 50 hours of use. How far along was yours?
@@GlenHyden I'm not sure, Mine doesn't have an hour meter. I've had it about 4 years. The spring broke the first week I was using it, I think the guys at Lowes assembled it wrong. (it was in the hole in the top plate vs. the vertical bracket)
@@wecanfixit7308 Ah mine is 10 months old. Also from Lowes. There's another UA-camr that shows the oil coming out of these Hydros are full of aluminum particles. 🥴
My belt is back on. Still not moving. Looking underneath, the belt diagram does not look right.
Thanks. Had this problem for some time. Will try this tomorrow. Greg in Western Australia.
good luck! Make sure to check the belt tensioner pulley, I did a followup video when this problem happened again shortly afterwards and I discovered the pulley was bad.
