In this tutorial I'll show you how to make a super easy poncho.
**HOW TO MEASURE FOR THE FABRIC AMOUNT NEEDED**
Look for fabric that is 42" to 45" wide. Measure from the top of your shoulder to where you want the bottom of the poncho to land. Then double that number, and that is how much fabric you need to purchase.

How much fabric?
Another great video. I appreciate your calming voice more than ever these days. Your outros always bring a big smile to my face, because Manny's smile is so cheery.
Thank you so much for watching! 😀❤️
I love this! Not only can you make a beautiful poncho, but if i take this same technique, (minus the fringing of the fabric) I can make awesome swim suite cover ups using very thin or shear fabrics. It might take some adjustments but it gave me some great ideas. I have been collecting really large scarves that have the perfect width for coverups.
A double gauze would be beautiful as your swimsuit cover up
Great idea!
@@joyscranfield5527 I hadn’t thought of that. Thanks
The thread removed to create a fringe can be placed outdoors for the birds to line their nest ❤

please advise how much fabric you purchased for poncho as well as the width. I live in Australia. Lovely video thank you
Look for fabric that is 42” to “45” wide. Measure from the top of your shoulder to where you want the bottom of the poncho to land. Then double that number, and that is how much fabric you need to purchase.
I had shoulder surgery today (first one was April 2020). I bought a poncho because I can’t wear a sweater or jacket. I wish I’d had this a week ago. 😞 I will make this once I can sew, again.
Hi Dale. I wish you a speedy recovery. ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you.
I've been hoping you would show how to do this!
Awesome! Happy Sewing! 😀
Really cute poncho. I need some clarifications as it was hard for me to see the detail on the fabric. After fringing, then you fold 1/4 inch on front and back neck/shoulder pieces to the wrong side, correct? You sew the neck/shoulder edge to sew the shoulder seam with right sides facing with a wider seam allowance so the folds are not sewn over at that point open, is it that the seam is open but both edges of the seam allowance still have the folds? Are you then putting one folded edge on over the other to sew on the fold?
Hi Carol. To sew the seams at the shoulder bring front sides (pretty side) together and stitch the shoulder seams. In the center leave it open (do not stitch closed) for the neck. Then fold the seam allowance under twice all the way across the poncho. Now stitch the seam allowance folded edges down - stitch close to the folded edge. Hope this helps. Glad you liked the sewing tips. Thanks for watching💗and happy sewing😍
Great video 💕 Three questions: 1) Does the fringe unravel over time? 2) Is this washable fabric? 3) If so, what method, hand wash?
If you sew along the edges to be fringed and wash in a mesh bag, you shouldn’t have much of a problem.
Yes ty for tuitorial. What about measurements?
Hi Carolyn. In the DESCRIPTION section under your UA-cam screen is the instructions on how to measure your body. Thanks for watching. 😍
Cheryl, what kind if fleece do i ask fir at Joanns? There are so many. That would make a good video …different kinds of fleeces and the best use for each. Thank you for this tutorial❤️
Hi Gramma Nona. This poncho was made out of Joann's platitude fabric. It is not fleece. If you want to make this out of fleece you cannot pull the fabric strings out to make fringe. But you can turn the raw edges under and stitch them down. Buy the best fleece you can afford. The anti-pill fleece does not get little knots on top of the fabric after wearing it. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍
@@TheSewingRoomChannel oh ok…i cant believe i totally forgot that you mentioned what kind of fabric that was! Thank you so much for all your great videos, im learning so much from you. God bless!❤️
@@TheSewingRoomChannel would you recommend the platitude fabric for children’s pj bottoms? If not, what fabric would be best? I value your opinion…im a late bloomer when it comes to sewing/crafts! 😂
can you make this with fleece??
Hello…. Would any cotton fabric be ideal to make this poncho?
In order to make the fringe the fabric must be a loose weave. If the fabric does not unravel easily, you will not be able to make the fringe. Before purchasing the fabric pull on the thread to see if it unravels easily. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍
Hello Cheryl found your poncho patterns. Please can you tell me how you can work out material for a longer length poncho. . Not sure how what length or how much material you have in front of you . Please can you tell me how I would work that part out. For myself Thanking you in advance.
Hi Karen. Decide what length you want it to be - measure from the top of your shoulder on down the front of your body. Multiply that length times 2. Thant is how much fabric you need to buy. Fold the fabric in half. The fold is where your shoulder seam will be. Before you cut the fabric hold the fabric up in front of your body to make sure it will fit. Hope this helps. Happy holidays. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍
@@TheSewingRoomChannel thanks Sheryl so sorry I spelt your name different that’s just how we spell it in the Uk. I do apologise. That is very useful information for me. I haven’t really made clothes mainly just quilts and the likes. I would love to be able to make clothes with confidence. You definitely inspire me to give things a try. Just being brave enough. You make things look so easy, I know they are not. Hehe well wouldn’t be for me. Haha
can you also turn this poncho 90 degrees with a V-neck front and back? thank you for video
Hi Susan. Yes you, but make sure the neck opening in going in the correction direction. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍
I will let you know how it turns out. Thank you
Hi Debby. Hope you like the poncho. Happy sewing. 😍
Good morning
😀
How much fabric do you need ?
Hi Barbara & Teresa. This information is listed in the description of the video but just in case, here is the information you're looking for.
Look for fabric that is 42" to 45" wide. Measure from the top of your shoulder to where you want the bottom of the poncho to land. Then double that number, and that is how much fabric you need to purchase.
How can I make this so that the poncho comes to a point in front?
Hi Jeriela. Here is a link to a poncho tutorial that is set with the point in front and back:
