You saved my day and my sanity! After literally 50 videos on how to attach a hood, yours is the ONLY one that made sense and gave great detail that I could actually see and understand! A thousand thank you’s!!!!!
I like how your sewing room looks like a sewing room, not a perfectly decorated video set. And I love how you just go for it and make mistakes and show us how you correct them. You're really real. Like the Velveteen Rabbit.
I made two of these ponchos for my twenty-something granddaughters for Christmas. I used two luxe fleece fabrics from JoAnn and the finished ponchos were beautiful. The girls LOVED them! Thank you, Crafty Author!
I swear my flipping inside out to find my hood was NOT going well. I somehow did it backwards.. but it still worked? The shock on my face. I couldn't breathe. Thank you so much for this tutorial you're a genius
Planning on trying this with a few slight variations to make taking my son to the bus easier... slits for my hands to come through (for holding little hands and backpacks, a hoodie pouch pocket on the front (for phone and keys) and an opening across the chest with an added baby hood for when I'm wearing my daughter in a carrier! Hands free at its finest for taking my son to the bus this winter.
I have made several of infant car seat ponchos from your video and a person that bought one said that if I made an adult one that she would buy them also. So very glad I saw your video on the adult one. I thought it would be more complicated, but it isnt. Love your videos, you are so real. Love that you showed your mistakes because I have made those same ones ! Looking forward to your future videos!
I saw This Christian Dior hooded poncho worn by Romee Strijd for the 2020 fashion week event and I loved it so much and I want to recreate it then I saw this video! Thank you so much for this video. Now I know what fabric to use and how to add a hoodie to it
I’ll have to go find the one you did for the kid size. I’d like to make one for my grand kids. Great video and great instructions. Just an FYI, because I am a little OCD when I am sewing, I have found that when I’m working with anything that I have to match up right sides to right sides, I always fold my fabric right sides together before I cut it, that way I don’t have e to try and figure out where everything should match up.
Thank you for the tutorial. Last Christmas I wanted to make a few phocho's for gifts, but could not find a pattern or video that was what I wanted. Your's was exactly what I was looking for. I think I will try making mine out of a fabric similar to a light wool fabric. Your fleece one looks great, I just want to try it with less bulky fabric first. I might try adding a kangroo pocket to the center front like on hoodies for holdinghold gloves/warm hands. Really cute idea and whoever you gifted it to is one lucky person.
Thank you, Ellen 😊 I am glad that I was able to help. I gifted this to my Mom and she loves it! She's always cold, so it really came in handy, especially for when she is in the office and they have air conditioning on.
Thanks for the great tutorial. I just finished one of these for my mom for Christmas. It turned out really well. I’d love to learn how to make to hood do that it comes further forward around the neck than just the back half, but I’m not sure how to make that change. Wish I could send you a picture; it turned out great! Thanks.
Adorable poncho. Thanks for the awesome video! Funny too. You're all like "what's wrong with this thing?" haha. I've never worn a poncho (except for boy scouts) and it might take some getting used to.
First of all LOVE the video! Love the poncho. I love your machine and sewing room. But girl, I love your nails!!!! So pretty! I spend money on fabric and not me! But I want the nails!
Thank you, this was so easy to understand. I want to make Pancho with hoodie for my daughter for Christmas. 2020🎄. Never made it before. I'm going to make single Pancho with hoodie. 💕✂️📍🍁🌸 From England 🌼
@@TheCraftyAuthor Thank you 😊. I bought the fleece fabric last week and I followed your instructions and I made red fleece puncho with hoodie. Just finished making today. Punchu turned out beautiful, just the way you showed. Thanks again. 🌸✂️✳️📍🌺💖👚 From England 🌼
I have two colors of layered fleece and I can’t figure out how to position the hood to get the colors right and whether to aim the hood inward or outward. It looks like hood faces inward and down and is clipped inside the two cape layers at the back with cape layers right sides together and hood right sides out. When sewing, do we stitch the inner neck edges or on the outside of the neck edges? Wonder what is easier. When done sewing, turn outer cape right side out. Find hood. Stuff inner layer into hood and neck hole. It should be all correct now. To fix anything, push inner layer through hood again and I guess, turn outer layer inside out again. My memory is terrible so I’m going to remind myself....there was no way I was getting the 4 layers under that walking foot, so I separated the task . I sewed one layer of hood to the outer layer and the inner layer of hood to the inner layer of cape. In the same position only separated. Then I sewed the front neck. The inner cape tucked inside of the neck the same way.
Thanks for the tutorial! You made it look easy enough! I would like to know, do you have to zig zag around the bottom or can you straight stitch? I'm working with a 1951 Singer 201 that doesn't zig zag. Thanks.
Thank you! I am needing to make a ladybug poncho as a quick on and off costume for work. This will be perfect. What brand and make is your machine? I think it's time for me to upgrade mine. Thanks for all your help!
You have 4 layers right? Did you see the inside to the outside or do they hang loose all the way around. I'm a beginner. Your instructions are great but I don't understand the 4 layers if they got sewen together Thank you
Josie- Yes, the inside layer gets sewn to the outside layer at the bottom to finish the poncho. You can also leave it unfinished. It’s really just preference. 😊
It would definitely be tedious, but I wonder if an embroidery needle could be helpful with the density when seeing by hand? Definitely can be done, just longer or course.
@@ashleycifone3097 if you want to make it by hand add a couple inches to each side as a seam allowance and tie it like a tie blanket. That would work for the poncho part, not sure about the hood.
I followed this video in making the poncho. The problem I have is that I am tall and I am trying to make it at least 33 inches long. but the fleece only least got to 25 inches . Because of the edge around the fleece. Can you help me, is there a way to make it longer.

One thing you said you needed 1/4 of the hoody neck line. You folded in half then you said you need 1/2 again. It was 6inch so you said it comes out to three inch but you still cut a 6 inch hole, did you miss speak or do you cut a 6inch hole?

Totally making a Bruno Madrigal outfit with this knowledge
Same reason I was looking for a tutorial video too.

Thanks! Good idea to double the fabric for extra warmth.
Great video. I live in Montana and sometimes you just don’t want to pull out your heavy coat. I am going to make one for myself tomorrow
very clear steps and perfect for a beginner like myself, thank you
Thank you!! This is exactly what my son-in-law has asked me to make for him (instead of an ‘Oodie’). Only he wants it to be single thickness 😊
Love the poncho.

I guess u could find a garment with a hood thats perfect and then use that and conjoine the two patterns together

Loved the video
Good video but need instruction on layout, folding fabric initially. I have different fabric for outside and inside.
Do you have a video showing how you folded the fleece? I can’t figure it out. Thank you for any help you may offer.
I have a video on how to make a child’s hooded poncho that goes more in depth with the folding. It is under the playlist Ponchos.
If I want to use a lining material, just do the same, with 2 yards?

Is there a pattern for this please x
Could you make this with the front open and still have a good?
That was suppose to be hood

Happy New Years 🎉🎉🎉 2020
Love this so much!!
Do you have a printable hood template available?
Unfortunately, I do not.
Make your own template from a hoodie you already have, or borrow one!! (As Ms Craft mentioned)
شكرا هذا ما كنت ابحث عنه لكن كنت اود ان اعرف كيف قصصتي القبعه لانه ليس لدي قطعه اقص عليه

Just here form the new puss in boots movie trying to cosplay as the wolf and this helped
I’m glad it was helpful for you! Happy sewing!
I know this video is older, but I was wondering is the 4 pieces of the hood necessary? Is it just for thickness?
It is really only double layered. Because you sew each side of the head separate to allow for the curve of the head.
Very GOOD👍🙏 FROM JALANDHR (PUNJAB)
Gostei muito
This is awesome! One problem, I don’t know how to use sewing machine and I don’t have one. Have you done any of these by hand?
I have not done one by hand. In my opinion it would be very difficult because of the thickness of the fleece and seams.
If you know how to do hand quilting, I think you could do this by hand. We sewed for thousands of years before the sewing machine was invented.
If you do just 1 layer, how do you attach the hood?
You would attach it the same way, you would just be able to see where it is attached because it wouldn't be sandwiched in between the 2 layers.
Can you tell me how you keep the neck from stretching out of shape ?
You can try by using a small zig zag stitch. Sometimes that helps to stabilize the fleece better and keep it from stretching.
I followed this video in making the poncho. The problem I have is that I am tall and I am trying to make it at least 33 inches long. but the fleece only least got to 25 inches . Because of the edge around the fleece. Can you help me, is there a way to make it longer.

i don't get the way you have folded the fleece. It would be great if you could show a video of it
💯💯💯💯💯💋
I tried and tried attaching a hood, but I had too much slack.
It can be a bit tricky. Keep practicing and you will get it. 🙂
