The British might be gone and consumers still harbour anger for them, but we still unconsciously look at anyone foreign as premium. Having a foreign name gives a global identity to these brands - It just creates an impression that their products are not exclusively meant for India and it seems more exotic than anything
The biggest company that does this is Aditya Birla group. Adtiya Birla acquired a subsidiary called Madhura Fashion in 1999. DATA Madhura Fashion did 1559 Crores in revenue in 2021 and it has a few companies in it that you know well.

Well Peter England, Van Heusen and Allen Solly do provide quality goods and now that i know these are Indian brands it makes the experience even better
CD and Sero are best in India....
I agree
Marketed by Indian company Birla but manufactured by overseas
They are manufactured overseas tho
Indian Terrain is also a good quality and an Indian name.
This is not an 'Indian' problem, its a global thing. All fashion brands try to market themselves as Italian, French or British as these were always considered the fashion capitals of the world. Even in US, Canada, Korea you wud see an affinity to French or Italian clothes and Swiss Watches. So many US based watch startups have italian/french names

Well said.
@@devakinandan7659 yes. Soft power has to be based on solid track record and foundation.

You excellently presented what I have always felt about these “foreign” brands. One must wonder why there aren’t Indian brands named Patel’s Jeans or Reddy Polos !!

The brands are not just names but also difference in quality.
Peter England are mostly daily office wear with cotton fabrics of 120 gsm. They are 100% cotton too but observe on the GSM which means they come cheap, can be stained and after sometimes can be discarded. They also sell other shirts which don't crease and all for office wears because they are mixed with synthetic fabric cheap to manufacture same case with suits. Most Peter England suits are also synthetic in nature.
Allen Solly is meant for a premium (not luxury) brand.
Van Huesen as said by the narrator being owned by Aditya Birla is incorrect. Van Huesen is owned by Authentic Brands, the same brand that markets Arrow, Brooks Brothers, Forever 21, Nautical etc. Aditya Birla just bought the rights to sell and market Van Huesen in India and didn't actually own it. Now they can't market either as parent company will be running the business now onwards.
It's the same as how Timex, Kenneth Kole etc are run by Titan in India but not actually own it. Calvin Klien is owned by PVH, but it's watches were earlier made by Swatch Group and now Movado( MVMT in reality)
Yes, like Pilot and Parker are run in India by Luxar.
Looks like your research is on point
Valid points

@@slashtab movies yeah probably, but the other for sure not. Don't forget to factor in the cost. Also if you are talented and work hard you can get admission in IIT, IIM, do CA or Mbbs. The only ones who legitimately need to go abroad are those who want to do cutting edge research in the ivies or oxcam or the children of rich parents who aren't able to Crack Indian exams and go to mediocre western unis to just show off and spend money. The 2nd category is anyway not worthy of attention because mostly either come back to joi their fathers business or some stay and squander their family wealth
Well you are trying to change the mindset of Indian's on foreign products in foreign language wowwww! That's awesome bro

A very eye opening video to those who do unnecessary show off by showing the brands without actually knowing about the brand. Everyone should watch it. Worth a share. 👍
I have a friend who knew someone in the Arvind Mills factory outlet and would get both of us shirts, chinos and trousers at 1/4th the MRP provided we bought multiple pairs.
He told us that even by selling it at that heavily discounted price, they would easily break even or even make small profits. The margin on these items seems sky high.

It's not just Indians, even West wants exotic imported fashion Italy, Milan, Indian textiles like Kashmere. It's nothing negative on consumers side.

I recently ventured into Organic Farming business, currently supplying it to local supermarkets. But probably by next year I'm planning to start my own brand, and I'VE CONSCIOUSLY SHORTLISTED 2-3 EUROPEAN NAMES for my brand. Hope it will work 🤞
Even the foreigners know the weaknesses of 'Brown People', that's why so many foreigners start their Vlogs from any India City or any reaction videos (bullshit ones) on any India-related topic, though this miraculously increases their subscriber count on their channels. 😂😂
Anyway, I’ve one thing to add:
Even top brands like Zara, H&M, Mango, etc. buy raw cotton from India, stitch it in either Bangladesh or Xinjiang (China) & put their European labels and sell it back to the upper middle + rich class in India. The same company which stitches Zara etc. is also manufacturing Wrogn & Ajio's cloths, but since it's Ajio, brown people aren't into it. LMAO!
Thanks for making this video, help us Indians get over this inferiority mindset which has set-in probably due to various Netflix shows + Kara Johar made Bollywood movies.
Ekdum sahi bro....Ye reaction video vala game toh bohot bekar...we are weak pussy insecure cunts sadly.
Zara does seem to have better designs and fit though. I have checked wrogn (never checked ajio since it is mainly online only), and wrogn designs are definitely not that great
So we should not buy Zara or h&m ?
When I was young, like in school, I wanted to buy jeans from Levi's, similarly shirts and t-shirts from different brands. Later I realised that the people who were advertising the brands don't wear the clothes from same brands. I made my own research, I was young, it took effort, then I found big celebrities don't use branded products, they used customised products that fit them best. So when I started working, I started using tailor made clothes in formal, they fit me best. Even I found a shoe maker who makes good formal shoes too. For informal dresses, I depend on readymade products though.
Levi still makes the best jeans. No indian company is even near the competition
Levis is the only denim brand I still go for blindly. Durability + fit is unmatched. For formals though, custom tailored way is the best!
Somehow I have always found local tailors lacking the skill to give a good fit. Ready made trousers and shirts have treated fabric that give much better fit and comfort than custom tailored stuff. Levis 511 and marks and Spencer's have dominated denims and trousers for me for last 5-6 years!
But then you have to spend time in finding good quality fabric, must know the good tailor and then get it made. It's quite a big activity in itself
@@MrReachashish raw material goes from india , but we buy it a high price when it comes with the tag

I am a textile designer and remember studying about this in my first year of college. This model is even followed by the so called luxurious brands all over the world. even the biggest names do this and there have been many case studies where consumer just goes for brand not knowing actually how to see quality.
After seeing those case studies i came to understand that i shouldnt underpay myself just bcz someone else doesnt understand the quality

Just feels so great to see you people spreading awareness about all this there are many people out there who still don't know that all these brands come under the Aditya Birla Group, great work by the research team 👍💯
Agree with everything but the reason why we watch movies from abroad is purely due to the lack of originality in content and not because of the Indian mindset.
I just discovered this channel and damn it's impressive. The skit, the research, the style, the edit, and most importantly the content is fabulous. You deserve a million subs by the end of the year not 93k.

Here in Pune, in phoenix mall, all these brands like pantaloon, van Heusen, Allen Solly have their shops on the same floor. In phone shops all these brands like Samsung, vivo, oppo have their phone on the same table, and we not knowing the similarity, go behind the brand. I was quite shocked when I got to know it is Adithya Birla and bbk electronics who own these🥶🥶

Team of AEVY TV, you guys have done a fantastic job, loved the video detailed and with clarity.👍🏻
This video is also an excellent lecture on marketing.
Wow, man, you made it so clear . I recently bought the s21 fe at 54k in the end of August, and by the end of September, it dropped to 35k . It diluated my entire phone experience. I now understand why " premium " brands never reduce cost
Some premium luxury brands do give a discount but that is for factory seconds, which means it was used as display, people came, saw it, may be try it and then when stocks of that product end, they even sell the trial one.
Or the product is not made anymore/discontinued and they will discount the remaining stuffs.
But some brands won't even do that. Hermes is known to burn their extra stuffs and not throw them away at discounted rates.
So here is the trick. Walk in a showroom, as them if they have any factory second product and if they have in your size you can buy at discounts. Most people who enter those shops to buy are typically who can easily pay. So they never ask. I am generally shameless to ask about those. I have bought Gucci bags at 80% discounts, because it had dust collected from display. Once I literally bought a shirt from a mannequin because that was the only size available in the cloth I chose and got it at 60% discount. Just wash it before you wear it that's all. And they know you don't have the experience of wearing a new shirt and smell it because you will have to wash it before you wear, so they discount it heavily because as a customer you are sacrificing on your experience.
If you find luxury suits or pants at discount at larger sizes than yours, buy them and get them altered.
Always buy in sale
😂😂😂 I buyed it on price drop
always buy samsung phones 1 year later. The price drops to less than half
Thank you for keeping captions.

Well researched. But the fact of having foreign names in an Indian mind will not go so easily. Most of the Puma T-shirts are made in Ahmedabad, but people will still buy their product thinking of they are made from foreign material.

Just need to look at Jobs to be done(JTBD) for the clothes and its to keep you covered & look good any piece of cloth which manages to do that is good enough.
Loved the video. You guys are posting quality content. Kudos and all power to you 🙏👏.
Buying clothes from a particular brand is not just a status symbol but it gives you a personality. It doesn't mean it has to be a foreign brand . It can be your local tailoring shop. These things come with recognition. It creates image in one's mind. This is just my opinion.
@@Mez352 many brands give you many options.
@@Mez352no need to be harsh, he is just sharing his opinion. Personally I stick to a brand if their clothes are are of good quality and feel comfortable. It's difficult for a brand to create consistent quality products. That's why foreign brands rule Indian market.
@@Mez352 too much of a strong generalization based on a clearly personal "opinion" mate
@@kooler999ify If you end up liking the vibe of a particular brand (style, ethos maybe and just their direction ends up resonating with yours), chances are that you will have a higher likelihood of finding something you like from them compared to a random selection among major brands

In the electrical and electronics sector, you have brands like Havell and Moserbaer. For a long time I thought that Havell was a European/Czechoslovak company until I discovered it got its name from one Haveliram! 😁many of us believed Moserbaer was a German or Swiss brand till it died out and we found that it was only a Delihi-based company. 😉
Incredible video! Well researched and I love the aesthetics.
You have to make a case study video on "Tata". Mostly the fashion segment they've recently grown into, be it WestSide or Zudio they've been targetting different audiences lately.
1st time to your channel.
You have nailed it.
It would have been great if you had suggested some alternatives. These brands are so strong it's hard to find alternatives for them. I like the fact that they are actually Indian companies and brands but the mindset they are propagating in strictly against them. Would love to try an"Indian mindset"brand as an alternative.
There is a lot of hidden monopoly in business world. Two brands might appear to be different and rivals to each other but if you trace their roots, it might be that they have the same parent company or the same majority shareholders etc.

partially agree with you, yes many people have these mindsets, but usually these foreign products, movies, books are better, lets make our talents reach there full potential and let us bring something new to the table in the same amount as those foreigners who have produced works in different fields from sci to art for hundreds of years then we will talk, of course we are catching up but dont shame people who consume and use products, art etc of foreigners from usa to jp

I went to shopping malls in delhi, i saw kurta made of cheapest, weakest fabric with very little design or embroidery, at 999 or 1599. On the other hand, you go to local traditional bazars in smaller cities, in 1599, you get 5 meter fabric (with dupatta) with much more intricate, elaborate design. Some 400 extra for stitching and its even better if you can stitch yourself. Sadly, its all being taken over by big brands. Soon factories will stop selling fabric to traditional shops and will only sell directly to fast fashion companies like Zara, W... no good fitting, no extra fabric for alterations. ... its a horrible mess.
So Zara products aren't good ?
@@yoda4897 compared to what you can get at same price in local shops... no they arent. I have many clothes that i bought like 10 years. Fabric shines still the same. And fitting is always off. I have seen other girls wearing it. Fitting is rarely good. They look ok only on skinny girls with no curves. Indians girls have hourglass figure. I dont know about male clothing though or what exactly zara sells. But my experience is mainly for our traditional wear that i see malls.
