Cool...I would leave base construction on auto (space stations and defensive bases are very nice to prevent invasion)...build up to like 50 construction ships...you need to churn out mining stations (more mining stations means more civilian transport ships are built) might want to swap out the old construction ship on the planet killer with a newer faster construction ship Very very cool...growing fast now...especially with your research jumping up so much Keep em coming!!!!
Yep, I flipped back to auto in the most recent episodes that will show this week and next. I wasn't doing that because of my economy, but now that I have some breathing room I'm all for it.
The AI doesn't do anything very well at all, from colonization to fitting ships, you name it. Take over as much of the game as you want and adjust the difficulty so that you're challenged.
I let the computer to colony taxes and exploration and over time put some defensive fleets on ai control. Everything else is manual with some items being "suggestion from ai" you have plenty to do trust m and its fun.
I'd leave as much automated as possible and start peeling away to manual the systems you feel you can manage better. Fleet positioning is a big one I usually do manually, otherwise my fleets are moving home planets & buzzing around for no reason. I want them positioned by the borders, or small defense fleets within my empire that are agile and can move quickly. I'm just now getting to the invasion part with the new patch and I have not utilized the new systems yet, old habits, I keep doing those manual too. I really want to test and see if the AI has gotten better with that.

This game is enticing, but I'm thrown off by the fact that the game doesn't need us to play. What would you recommend to a new guy to play on manual?
oh it handles much of the hum drum stuff...but there is PLENTY of player interactions
