You guys showed exactly why I play a tele. It has the best tone of any guitar for my personal preference. But you two make it sound way better than I can. Enjoyed this very much.
Hey. Just wanted to say how much I appreciated these videos regarding Telecaster tones. It seems that nearly two years ago when these versions were created. You may have edited the first in this series. It was excellent in the original form. (It’s locked in my memory vault). Thank you for the tone guidance.
Amazing tones from both of you but I was really digging what Guillaume was playing on his driven sound - super cool! You both showed what a versatile and wonderful instrument a Tele is. Nice job guys!
Having had a couple Starts (ok, ok a Fender Lead III , then a Squire Strat more recently) I now have a Tele. To be honest I barely can tell the difference Love them both, all three actually.
Kris, As always I absolutely enjoy your playing style and always finger speed is phenomenal. You mix it well into a riff instead just trying to show off your talent. We both know no one can teach you anything on a Tele..lol. Guillome sounded great on a thin line. Great sliding. Kris you are our king of Teles my friend. Thanks again guys. Just Thomann awesome show
This means a lot, thank you! That is the intro riff of a song on my solo album. We'll start the recording in the next weeks, I hope you'll like it. Cheers //Kris
I think that both Tele pickups switched in series as big Humbacker sounds great with a slightly driven amp and the Wampler Tumnus in front. Additionally I think that tele can work just fine for classic metal when plugged in a metal amp like Engl Fireball 25. I have changed my pickups to Lollar special T set and man the sound got even better with everything I mentioned before. At last I have seen that a Tele is the first pick for pedals enthusiasts. The bridge pickup sounds great with a lot of Delay and Reverb and to top it of with an analog Flanger or a Chorus.
Love so much those Duel Tone video :D And the winner is .... definitely not my Bank account because I need a Tele so much since I am watched Kris' videos, and even more right now ! Good job guys, the Guillaume's tone is the one I've in my mind when I think Tele sound. And I love it so much. But this time I go for the Kris' tone , because of those awesome sounds that nobody expects from a Tele. But still, good job to both of you. I could listen to you play all day long !
The Tele is the definite winner! Both players had great tone, because it's a Tele, and both are excellent players. Kris knows the guitar well and it shows! As Guillaume said, he likes the Tele for slide and he proved that he knows how to do that! I call it a draw because both know how to use the guitar for what they want and how to get the right tone. Awesome vid, just too short!
Round 1 slight edge for Kris. Round 2 playing and sound was more for Guillaume. Round 3 Kris "won" just because the tone and playing made me turn my head and look at my monitor. Simple as that. Great job and great content as always.
OK ... so a Tele can do pretty much everything ... But it can do even more when you are a nerd like me and start to customize/DIY/KitBuild: - splitable humbuckers in the bridge pos. - Mini-Humbucker or Lipstick in the neck pos. - 4-way-blade-switch in a standard configuration - piezo under the bridge Of course you do need more than 1 Tele to do all of this (;-))) Nice, thanks for sharing.
Oh yeah man, I feel you! A tele is just an amazing platform for unconventional modifications. Although some people try to prove otherwise, for thrash metal this things can do miracles in the double tracking. I love to blend it with Gibson Les Paul Standard or with a Super Strat with EMGs. I have also got a 4-way switch and hot single coils from Lollar. This thing kicks a..! Still I am not a big fan of the vintage Tele bridge. The modern bridge that you see on Fender Ultra Teles I consider to be a much better alternative for heavier music. Locking tuners upgrade + Nut Sauce makes it great for Pink Floyd licks with a lot of bends too.
@@ivankolybabyuk3035 You are spot on regarding the bridge! I got 1 bridge with 6 Strat saddles, one with a Babic bridge and 2 with "Harmony saddles" ... next one will have a TunOmatic bridge because i want to try a Bigsby .... Look im going to firstly admit i am 100% biased towards black guards (Kris's is one of the best sounding on YT as well!) because i love them and have one as my main squeeze. That being said even with my bias i honestly think the neck tone from the black guard EATS that thin line, i think the reason (many will argue, this is not dissimilar to "tonewood" and "string through vs top load" arguments but i truly believe it makes a difference,so bash away) could even be incredibly simple and that's the pg mounted neck pickup, honestly never heard proper "Tele neck" tone from guitars set up this way, some come CLOSER than others (various pickups may mitigate) but ive never heard what i consider the sweetest neck tone of any guitar ever, body mounted Teles! Throw in gain and middle/bridge positions and i think they both on even ground. Guillaume's slide playing was indeed a highlight!

AS opposed to a lack luster thin sound..Im a heavy blues type player...and it gives me that les paul vibe, somewhat, which i have also......I admit, 12's are a bit too heavy, my fingers are bleeding! well, almost and i love it! I think im gonna end up in the 10.5 to 11 gauge area..When i put them on yesterday, it felt like i just tried bending a string for the 1st time..The idea was to start heavy and end up in the middle...For my style i believe we can get away with putting 8 to 9.5's on a les paul or sg, or 335 but to me the tele sounds too thin in that range..If you want your tele to sound thicker w/o drowning it in pedals??? put heavier strings...Plus i feel like i have more control, plus your fingers will get BROLIC, And for us guitar players thats the ultimate reward! Hey Daniel and Erik, yeah it's my lick I wrote a few months ago. Guillaume likes it a lot and keeps on playing it off camera (which is super cool of him) so I thought this is the right moment to play it in a video. @@valebliz I checked them out as well 👍 And I might invest in those or go hunt on Reverb for the handwound. It’s just gotten CRAZY expensive with the new tax and import rules
No straight-jacked reverb with slap-back? No rock-a-billy Nashville sound? Cool tones, but without video, as primarily a Strat cat, this leans heavily Strat-y to me. Guillaume's "Life in the Fast Lane" riff felt very Tele, tho. I guess I was hoping for some Roy Clark vibes, with maybe a taste of Danny Gatton. Looove the vids, tho. Always good to see two bro's talking and jamming. 👍😎
Exactly, right? haha! And it wasn't even a super special holy grail fuzz or anything like that. The Dunlop Gipsy Fuzz is simply a silicon Fuzz Face style pedal that happens to work really well for me. :) //Kris

Haha this is kind of ironic - having just watched the Strat video I feel like Kris stuck to stratty sounds there and Guillaume has stuck to proper Tele sounds here! Kris you’ve chosen all stratty sounds on your tele too! (That neck pickup sounds killer!)
PS I think it’s impossible to pick a winner from this video other than the tele as you guys said
Thanks a lot Euan! Fair enough, I loved all the tones in the video too. I couldn't possibly choose a winner (don't tell anyone, haha!). Cheers //Kris
Which PU’s are in your Tele, Kris?
Hey, those are Fender Custom Shop handwound 51 Nocaster pickups. Did you like the tones? Cheers //Kris
@@ThomannsGuitarsBasses oups, screwed up the name 😁
Yes, I really liked them alot.
Especially the tone you used in the intro 👍
@@ThomannsGuitarsBasses I don’t think they make those handwound anymore
@@Williamwerenberg i have the std not hand wound 51 no casters and i like them a lot
@@valebliz I checked them out as well 👍
And I might invest in those or go hunt on Reverb for the handwound. It’s just gotten CRAZY expensive with the new tax and import rules
That was a good effort. My Kiesel 8-string multiscale beast of a Tele is the winner. I’m just saying! 😛
Ok
Kris won with the 3rd one. The flip from the neck to the bridge was the type of shit that makes a Tele special.
I have to say Kris edged it out for the win!
'Who won this round?
- [MASSIVE] Yes.'
Y.E.S. haha! I'm fine with that. //Kris
👍😎
Kris your back on top . You win
Kris overwhelmingly won rounds 1 & 2, Guillaume just squeaked it on round 3.
I GOTTSA have a Thinline Tele w/ SS
How bout an HB thinLine!!!
For me, Guillaume won the first and the second round but the third is for Kris
Kris won this one. I use pretty much all the sounds that Kris demonstrated.
Can't remember who said it, but "Everyone eventually comes back to a Telecaster."
Metal tone maybe next?
Again Guillaume win, this time is not the same guitar, the tele thinline is real special. but in clean tone and second round Guillaume Won
Chris hat definitiv gewonnen.
Hola
Before I go any further, the winner is whomever can get the Jeff Buckley tone
Guillaume for the win
Kris is unbeatibel
swamp fuzz ❤
Kris totally won this one.
If he feels like bringing your own pedal is cheating, what about bringing a slide!
Exactly, right? haha! And it wasn't even a super special holy grail fuzz or anything like that. The Dunlop Gipsy Fuzz is simply a silicon Fuzz Face style pedal that happens to work really well for me. :) //Kris
Certainly not a Fender nowadays....Many boutique guitar luthier make far better Telecasters than Fender USA ! My Haar is better than a Fender CS , for sure !
Formidable.
