    Also there are some places the US government does not want you to go. These are places that are hostile to the US and the SSA could pause or terminate your benefits if you ever go to those places. Just be aware of that. I don't know if China is one of those places but it is a place that I have no interest in ever visiting anyhow.

      It is not that the freedom to travel is barred, it is largely that those hostile countries as you well point out, are not permitted to receive US beneficiaries fund. Like you, I have no interest in going to them!

      @@AllThingsSocialSecurity I know we can go to them but there is a chance the FBI or other organization will want a word with someone who has gone to some of them if they ever come back to the USA.

    This is very interesting to me because I think that a lot of people travel to Mexico from November- December through may that are on ssi but are mostly of them not aware of the laws

    Thank you for this video. Could you clarify what happens if you travel less then 30 days? Do you lose the SSI benefit for that month or is it prorated? Do you have to report it? What happens when you get back from travel, do you get the benefit the following month? Thanks in advance.

      Only if over 30 days. Nothing should happen. And it is not prorated. I'd not report it b/c I'd keep my proofs for later in case someone says, hey you went to Canada on 7/1/24.... and you can show you came back on 7/20 or whatever. Receipts, ATm receipts, etc. of in and out of Canada. Back home etc.

    Hi Joy, great heads up. But does the travel abroad thing affect SSDI recipients too?

  • @reread2549

    Would that also apply to a pending SSDI or someone who is already collecting SSDI and spends more than 30 days and another country? Thank you as always.

    Wnat about normal SS? And if I want duel citizenship?

    • @AllThingsSocialSecurity
      @AllThingsSocialSecurity  3 місяці тому

      I can't speak to immigration rules. SSD is normal SS. But if you mean retirement, it is the same as SSD. If you accidentally think SSI is not normal SS, that is true if SS = Social Security. Because SSI is not Social Security at all.
