  • What to do from Alesund, Norway in one day? One of the highlights of our Norway & Iceland cruise was an excursion called From Fjords to Trolls (aka Land of the Trolls tour) with pickup from the Ålesund cruise terminal. You get a taste of some really excellent Norway food as well for lunch. Link to the tour we took:
    www.viator.com/tours/Alesund/...
    0:34 Alesund cruise port terminal
2:28 Kokarstelnen, Stordal (photo stop at the Storfjord)
3:01 Stordal Old Church (The Rose Church, Rosekyrkja)
6:52 Gudbrandsjuvet (viewing platforms for Gorge & Valldola River)
12:42 Trollstigen (The Troll Path visitor center & viewing platforms)
18:08 Trollstigen Camping (Taste of Norway Lunch buffet!)
22:46 Trollveggen Besøkssenter, Andalsnes (Trolltindane, Europe's tallest vertical rock face, where famed American base jumper Carl Boenish met his fate)
We saw fjords, raging rivers, lakes, snowy mountains, cool houses with grass roofs, and hiked up to see the Trollstigen. Our tour bus also drove on the edge-of-the-cliff Troll Path road with views that was reminiscent of the dangers from our ride on the Amalfi Coast in Italy. We highly recommend this cruise excursion, or if you're just visiting Aalesund for one day.

Norway is so beautiful. I have done a cruise there many years ago, but I don't remember seeing scenery that beautiful. That was a great day tour that you did. When we were in Alesund for the day, we did viking culture tour where we saw an old village with grass roofed huts, but your tour with the magnificent scenery is much better :)

Yeah the first time we went to Alesund we pretty much also did the local stuff, but then we saw the cruise line offering this tour, and then was able to find the exact same one for quite a bit cheaper, so we had to go for it. Definitely amazing scenery for sure!

Wow! I thought your photography was outstanding. It is one thing to take pictures of food on a buffet line or dishes at the table. However, to get that nature photography takes it to a different label. The food looked a lot better than what we suffered through at IKEA last week. I have been very disappointed with the excursions with food in the Caribbean. However, that excursion looks like a "must do."

Thank you so much! 😊 No need for much skill as such amazing sceneries speak for themselves! And yes this tour offered up really high quality food- much better than the buffet on the Star quality-wise.

One of my favorites of your videos as well. Such beutiful scenery & that lunch buffet was thoughtfully presented & looked so healthy. I wish there was more shown of the speaker. He sounded quite interesting especially when mentioning sidebars of history or folklore. ❤

One of our favorite one-day tours for sure- amazing scenery and excellent, fresh local food.
The tour guide ("Bus") was excellent- listening to all these interesting & fun facts was one of the highlights of the tour as well. Thank you so much for the comment! 😊

The landscape views are just breathtaking. This video inspires me to consider doing a Norway sailing. Norwegian architecture, both old and modern, inspires me as well. I was an architecture student in college years ago, and I have always found Norwegian vernacular quite compelling. I would absolutely eat this excursion alive. Which ship did you sail on? Maybe you mentioned it, but I can’t remember.
Norwegian salmon, I have found, is the most moist, creamy, and tender salmon anywhere. That buffet looked stocked with all of the stereotypical Norwegian delights. How exciting!!!
Speaking of NCL, after my latest experience with Royal (neither good, nor bad, really) I’ve been thinking RCCL might not be the cruise line for me like I’d thought several years ago. It’s absolutely great for families, and I still think they do an absolutely amazing job with Caribbean itineraries (although the food really needs to get better, in my opinion!). That notwithstanding, NCL really turned my head with their solo cabin neighborhood, which offers solo guests an extremely comfy cabin located amongst a cluster of other solo cabins, which makes it very much its own little community within the ship. Plus we got our own solo cruise director, which brought us all together. It was really really nice. I’ve been eyeing them this week, considering an 11-day Portugal itinerary. The newest NCL ships are so very modern and classy, and their observation lounges are second to *none,* in my opinion.
Lastly, speaking of buffets, I found on the Encore last year that Norwegian really know how to do a good buffet. I enjoyed it tremendously no matter which meal I sat for. Then the fact that they offer you two or three (depending on the number of days) specialty dining options at no extra charge seems like a really nice touch. Good food just lends itself to the feeling of goodwill and conviviality among guests, which I find really enhances the overall cruise experience. Now, that said, I did not find Norwegian’s MDR anything exciting. In fact, it looked to me as though they’re trying to push guests *away* from the traditional MDR as we know it - perhaps with plans to decommission it someday in the near future? Don’t know, we’ll see.
Anyway, wonderful video you guys. It was very inspiring. Best to you all! See you in the next video!! 👋

💯! This was for sure the best Norway excursion we've taken as you get to see so many fantastic sights plus savor the local cuisine. This was from our Norwegian Star Norway, UK & Iceland cruise. The Encore buffet sounds really good- we hope to try it as well as the Prima in the future. The smaller, older NCL ships don't exactly have the best buffet. Also it sounds like NCL's solo cabins are probably the best in the industry. Thank you so much for the comment Dustin! 😊

Hi Angela! Yes it was cold, especially when we drove up to the snowy mountain area- the ice was like several foot thick. At the beginning we were trying to get on the bus quickly to get good seats- the little guy was probably right next or behind me 🙂

I was wondering if one can do this excursion if you are not very fit (can not climb and do walk more than a mile).

    • @TravelTouristVideos
      @TravelTouristVideos  Рік тому

You sure can, though at the Trollstigen visitor center there are high platforms you'd have to walk up to in order to get the great views from above. But we saw some amazing views as well from the tour bus. The longest part you'd have to walk would be to get from the dock to the departure area at the Alesund cruise terminal.

Hey, really beautiful video! I’m planning to do this trip in August either. I would like to ask if you are back in port on time with an estimated time of 7.5 hours? As my cruise ship docks from 7.00 to 16.30 and then this trip shows a departure time of 7.30 that day, I should be back in Alesund at 3.00 p.m. if I am on time, so I have a little time to go up the hill to Viewpoint for a panoramic view of the city.

We were back in port about 30-45 minutes before the all-aboard time, so we did have time to walk around the Alesund cruise port vicinity. Have a wonderful time! 🙂
