What a wonderful demonstration of craftsmanship, patience, and artistic expression for a basic functioning tool!! Remarkable! Despite my fascination with the work and the process, I found myself coming back to thinking about having to sharpen all those chisels!
A perfect mix of modern tools to speed up the process without sacrificing the artistry. There are 8 billion people on this planet and at least half of us need one of those.
I am so sad to hear this. This film of Mr Tamaki was great gift to humanity, and I so appreciate that the film-maker did such a beautiful job, respectfully portraying a humble master at work!
His work is so moving. I want one. EDIT: I read from the comments he's no longer with us. Thank you to him for putting beauty into the world. And thanks to the filmmaker for immortalizing his beautiful work.
That is the most beautiful chalk line tool I have ever seen. And, based on what I learned of the technology it uses, it is better than the normal chalk line tool normally used here in the States. Permanent ink saturated cotton line run through wetted fibrous wadding. And totally a sign of the craftsman carpenter's pride in his work.
The skill of this carver is incredible. I believe it is also important to recognize the skill of the videographer who recorded this (very clearly!), and to thank whoever created this program to record and share the skills of such artists and craftsmen. Thank you all
I have no use for this BUT I want one just because it is so beautiful!! Thank you sir for all of your hard work. This is a prime example of "Life is Short, Use Pretty Tools"
Don't get me wrong the craftsmanship is incredible but with things like chalkline and laser guides it makes sense why these type of things are highly sought after anymore.
... Turtle and crane, "to stop short in the hope of not falling short." (...really I have no clue, that's just what pops into my head with the piece.) Thank you for the post, absolutely beautiful.
Magnificent piece of art. I couldn't look away, I was just mesmerized with the master at work. 🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅KEEP the dream alive son Aussie Aussie Aussie GDAY MATE from brisbane Australia 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Beautiful ink line.... Form over function though bit over the top. Only £5,000 Cheap at half the price. Any idea where I'll get one? Imagine taking one of those to work and someone takes it when you're not looking. Brilliant craftsman though.
No, you should absolutely use it, to honor his work and the spirit of craftsmanship it represents. Just use it carefully, and only on projects you really believe in (pieces and projects that you want to really put your heart and soul into.)
I still remember carving my Sumitsubo 10 years ago :) It was so much fun but also very demanding work… Mine is nowhere near as detailed but I’m still very happy with it :)

That was completely mesmerising! The skill, the patience, the artistry, the sheer number of tools required. Thank you, I am completely in awe.
A perfect mix of modern tools to speed up the process without sacrificing the artistry. There are 8 billion people on this planet and at least half of us need one of those.
The tooling and technology he is using that you are calling modern is about 150 years old. first used in 1873
Mr. Tamaki did excellent work, and very quickly. Unfortunately, he has moved on to the big lumberyard in the sky.
I am so sad to hear this. This film of Mr Tamaki was great gift to humanity, and I so appreciate that the film-maker did such a beautiful job, respectfully portraying a humble master at work!
WOW it was beautiful crafting chalk line and not only that I love the music that they put on this videos. You feel like ur in old Japan.

Beau Cordex .
I could watch these videos all day , the absolute pinnacle of craftsmanship
Wow he's a skilled craftsmen 😮so its a fancy/glorified chalk line i just love the little turtle on the top ❤❤
While the Japanese do indeed make fine chalk lines, this is for ink.
No way that the japanese create this piece of art just for a chalk Line 😱 you guys are true perfectionists
The most beautiful snap line tool I have ever seen, and because it uses ink instead of chalk it makes a much sharper line. Excellent work
Love from 🇮🇳. Always appreciated the workmanship of Nihon...
Nagyon szép mestermunka. Igazi művészet. Szomorú lennék, ha az ilyen mesterségek eltűnnének.

Young people today dont even know the convenience of this tool..😂 this guy is the chisel king i should day...cheers from philippines!
I have no use for this BUT I want one just because it is so beautiful!! Thank you sir for all of your hard work. This is a prime example of "Life is Short, Use Pretty Tools"
I like that power chisel he's using, seems to work really well.
Don't get me wrong the craftsmanship is incredible but with things like chalkline and laser guides it makes sense why these type of things are highly sought after anymore.
Beautiful work, this is the ancestor of what in the UK is called a chalk line. I would prefer to use one of these instead of the modern equivalent.
Thank you sir fo sharing this masterpiece with us 👍👍🙏❤️love from Holland 🇳🇱 🙏
I'm from Alaska USA. I love Japan and other countries ❤
Me too! I live in South Dakota.

Turtle and crane,
"to stop short in the hope of not falling short."
(...really I have no clue, that's just what pops into my head with the piece.)
Thank you for the post, absolutely beautiful.
Life is an investment - make it a beautiful one because it is worth it!

Craftsman to the power of '10' - 'The threshold of Artistry -- ABSOLUTE'
More like a piece of art than a tool.. 😁😁 beautiful.. 👏👏
The skill and talent of this Master is unparalleled. Incredible work of art as well as a wonderful tool.
😮 Amazing craftsmanship …. ❤ I wonder what the wood is for the Sumitsubo … very very high skill 😅
Muito belo trabalho do SENHOR ❤🎉🎉🎉🎉👍🙏
Muito obrigado. ❤
spectacular craftsmanship!!!
Wonderful craftsmanship
Increíble el nivel de detalle, fabuloso.
Beautiful carving and such talent pity these skills are not being passed down.
An amazing detail of Swedish and Japanese, is that no speech sound is different the slightest.
Amazing work
Những cây cưa lọng tuyệt vời 👍 Những tay nghề thuộc loại bậc thầy. Quá siêu 🇯🇵👋.

Wow, just wow. It would be a dream to have that skill and to own one of these Sumitsubo
I'm sure there is someone already but if he ever wants someone to continue his work when the time comes I'd like the chance to learn and do.
Great video, great channel, amazing and beautiful, thank you very much for sharing your knowledge, God Bless you
Magnifique travail d'artiste.🌞
Japan... even the tool has to be nice!
Beautiful ink line.... Form over function though bit over the top. Only £5,000 Cheap at half the price. Any idea where I'll get one? Imagine taking one of those to work and someone takes it when you're not looking. Brilliant craftsman though.
Impressive. If I had one it would be in a museum style glass case, not anywhere near my workshop.
No, you should absolutely use it, to honor his work and the spirit of craftsmanship it represents. Just use it carefully, and only on projects you really believe in (pieces and projects that you want to really put your heart and soul into.)

Magnifique ! de la part d'un CHARPENTIER
Beautiful
That's one expensive chalk line. Appreciate the craftsmanship though.👍
Magnífico, verdaderamente maravilloso.
GREAT 👍🙏👍
