- L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele has been considered to be one of the best pizzerias in Naples since 1870 and was also featured in the movie "Eat Pray Love" starring Julia Roberts. It's famous for classic Neapolitan-style pizza, and only has two pizzas on the menu: Margherita and marinara. The pizzeria is opening another location in Los Angeles, and producers Sydney Kramer and Caroline Aghajanian taste it for themselves to see why many consider it their favorite.

The Best Pizza In Naples Is Now In California
No pizza comes close to a really good margherita . If the sauce is right, dough is good and the cheese is of high quality, it doesnt need anything else
i agree, toppings covers up the taste of the pizza
JxT1957 same goes when people put ketchup on fries or other food, simple food is the best, otherwise it covers the food and you only taste that condiment and nothing else
L E ikr, i cant imagine ketchup being combines with fries, literally 😭
My 3 favorite pizza places are Joe's Pizza in NYC on Carmine Street.
Patsy's pizza in Harlem NYC and Amore pizza in Flushing NY.
Here's a video of Amore Pizza. Its at 57 seconds of the video below. The pizza here is amazing. ua-cam.com/video/VNCoGtY1f8I/v-deo.html
JJohnWords I have never tasted a margherita that was bad. Always the best😋
I love this place, when I was in Naples we had to wait over 2 hours in line to get in, 4 euro a pizza amazing.
I was there too, it was the best pizza I ever ate, but you gotta try others pizzerias around there 🍕
The one accros the street is good too
the whole pizza or just a slice?
celpabedn whole pie
celpabedn possible they had a price rise
the one in naples serves the pizza whole with a knife and fork, not sliced

Little known fact, the best way to put mozzarella on a pizza is in strips the ay this guy does, it makes a huge difference when using high moisture mozz and it's great to see that these guys know what they're doing down to that level of detail.
That looks amazing and I’d love to try it! Good thing I live close to LA, but fortunate for me some Italian family opened up a stand offering Napoli margarita pizzas and they are delicious! If anyone would want to try them, business is called pizza e pasta 🍝
It is priceless to see Americans eat a real good pizza from Naples, we in Italy are the best one.
One bite. Everyone knows the rules!

First she's folds it right, then says the words that made my Neopolitan heart go: "Will you marry me?"
In Napoli if you bring the pizza home you fold it twice and try to put as much pizza as possible in the mouth in every bite, plus some Olio di peperoncino sprinkled on top before hand.
i love margherita pizzas. they're so simple

Best pizza in the world is in New Haven CT, followed by Naples, and then NY. I nunsderstand Naples is the origin place of pizza, and I enjoy the traditional Neopolitin style but coal-fired New Haven-style pizza is just such an amazing experience. The crust is crunchier, vs Naples Neopolitin which is wet and floppy. They're just two different things and New Haven wins in my book if they have to be compared. NY style pizza is also great, but I wouldn't say it's better than pizza from Naples. NY pizza is a quick snack, with that cracker-thin crust and hot oil.
El presidente will be the judge of that...
I’m so happy I live in L.A.!! When I had pizza in Italy, it was life changing. It totally destroyed pizza for me here in the states. I cannot wait to go here. So excited! 😄 #giddy

I once had a similar pizza years ago. Simple and fresh - the way pizza should be made.

Da Michele's pizza is like NO OTHER pizza in Naples - a unique style; very wet, big, floppy and not that high. wow this is really nice pizza.
I have had pizza in Naples and it is very different from American pizza. I imagine that an Italian coming over here and discovering Canadian Bacon and Pineapple, Buffalo Chicken and Ghost Pepper, Chicken Fajita, and Philly Cheesesteak Pizzas and other American abominations would run down the street screaming about sacrilege. I was at the original place in Naples and it's wonderful - must see. I just don't believe they achieve the same quality if they ship all ingredients to LA. They could consider using fresh Californian ingredients.
Shipping all the ingredients has an effect on products?? I don't get it... The original Da Michele uses canned (not whole raw) San Marzano DOP tomatoes picked at the peak of ripeness.. just like you can buy here in the states and just as good. It's canned. Good, fresh mozzarella?? Also found in the US shipped from Italy and equally as fresh... aged Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, same... Double 00 flour from Italy.. same/same.. I work in the Italian wine business here in SF. Fuhgettabouit...

wow the real deal in california who woulda ever thunk it!! what say you new york?
NYC still has the best pizza and it’s gonna stay that way
but thats not real italian pizza
@Jx1957 Here's what we in New York say. First, the New York style coal oven pizza was invented by Italian Immigrant pizzaiolos from Naples, because coal was much cheaper than wood in America, which is used in a wood fired oven in Naples. It is every bit as "Italian" as it is New York Style. It is incredible tasting and 100% authentic New York style, but which is much crisper and firmer, with far more interesting textures, yet still with a relatively light, soft interior crust, than the soft , almost soupy mush toppings and pillowy soft crust, that is Vera Pizza Napoletana. The false sense of arrogant superiority, and condescending attitude of Neapolitan pizza lovers, especially the ones from Naples, or some other Italians, is laughably ignorant and very stupid and actually shows a profound ignorance of pizza. and its history. Gas oven pizza legends like Dom DeMarco of Di Fara's in Brooklyn , who's from Caserta, Italy, has been acclaimed by Italians from Italy , as making BETTER pizza , with imported ingredients from Italy, than what they can get at home. We have loooooong lines outside Di Fara's, and the famed Juliana's coal oven pizza , as well as Lucali's. And there are many others that are very well known to anybody who really knows truly great pizza. It ain't just about Naples, nor is it about Italy, It's about NEW YORK CITY where we have the best pizza in the world ,
We also have authentic Vera Pizza Napoletana by Roberto Caporuscio at Keste Pizza and Vino . Roberto certifies pizzaiolos and also owns Don Antonio by Starita in mid-town Manhattan. So New York has it all.
@Truth is not the one in california a branch of the one in italy, the same family, therefore the same pizza? they opened one up in california so how is it any different than naples?

One of the most popular dishes in the modern world is without a doubt Pizza. Here you can find out more about its interesting history, fun pizza facts and the way ...
One thing that's very odd, is that the oven thermometer is only reading about 650 degrees, F., when he pulls the pie. He's getting the leoparding charring, but that temp is way too low to be authentic Da Michele pizza. Da Michele bakes their pizza at 932 degrees . I know that, because there's a video with the head pizzaiolo of Da Michele explaining how they make their pie , which is done in only "40 secs" ! It's about twice as fast as most world famous pizzaiolos use, which is around 72 secs. to 83secs. Pizza Margherita Napoletana world champion Tony Gemignani bakes his at about 83 secs, at 850 degrees for the deck and 900 degrees close to the flames. Roberto Caporuscio bakes for about 72secs. The official rules are "45-90 secs.' at 800 -900 degrees F. But 650 degrees for this place??????? There is no way that pie is gonna be finished in 90 secs at that low temp, and that changes the texture. Nothing wrong, with a much longer bake, but that ain't authentic Da Michele, nor is it even authentic Vera Pizza Napoletana, despite some similarity in appearance.

MAN JUST GIVE ME REAL PIZZA LIKE MEAT LOVERS
Da Michele is THE world-celebrated pizzeria of Italy and Naples for its exposure in E.P.L., but be wonderfully rest-assured that any pizzeria you'll find in the Naples area (or pretty much the rest of Italy) is just as good. Taking nothing away from Da Michele, it's just that the average tourist or anyone who never had this TYPE of pizza before will be "that" blown away by how darned good they are. Lived in Italy for over 2 years, and I've eaten AT LEAST 100 pizzas in that time. And yes they are 4 or at most 5 euros for a Margherita in Italy. Glad to see that LA got the "real deal". FYI pizzerias in Italy don't put pepperoni, sausage, bacon, hot wings, Philly steak, ham, bell pepper, pineapple, or whatever else on their pizzas. So for the over-zealous pile-it-on-or-it-ain't-worth-nothing haters out there, just realize that this pizza is pizza, just a bit different. Try getting this here in the USA for the same price as Naples - Ain't happening (like never).
Despite negative and ignorant trolling remarks I've seen on this thread concerning the seeming lack of ingredients and the amount of cheese, Italy got it just right and that's how they do it. Tomatoes are known to be of the best quality since volcanic soil from Vesuvius has enriched the soil. Also, since the mozzarella is in fact imported, it's most likely "mozzarella di bufalo" - meaning it's from buffalo milk, not a cow. It's really good. In Italy people can go and get fist-sized mozzarella balls floating in cold water for cheap. Go see the small farms and fields around Naples and you'll find buffalo grazing to make the milk. I remember one such place in Lago Patria well. Whatever the case, Buon Appetito, e Tutti Mangiate Bene!
Tomatoes are indigenous to South America. I'm sure theirs are how tomatoes are supposed to taste.
