Stunning bit of history. The colour and sound put you right there. You can see a massive cultural difference across the decades. Got to say, the people looked nicer than today.
Superb vid. I don't know if it's possible, but it would be awesome if you could run the 1930s footage alongside footage of today in the same streets, so we could get a comparison. Thanks for the video, greatly appreciated.👍
@@NASS_0 no thank you my talented friend. im old and love nostalgia . good luck to you i know its hard hard finding these old forgotten films and bringing them back to life for our enjoyment.
Some of the London footage looks to be taken at different times, ranging from the late 1920s to the mid-1930s. However, excellent quality of film and good colourisation. Thank you for posting.
It’s always you’ve knocked it out of the park again! Always excited when a video pops in to my notifications and it’s from you. Thank you so much for your hard work and dedication and for sharing all of these lovely memories❤
I love your video work! I wish I were talented in an artistic way (I'm more an IT/Engineering type). I was lucky enough to be stationed in Germany 1980 ~ 1984, and because my specialty was not that of the average soldier, I was able to travel around quite a bit. Many of the places highlighted in these type of archival films, are places I visited, and came to love. Thanks for providing watchable videos in a historic way, of these places. I even learned something on this one.... I would have never considered dogs, for small cart hauling. Love history, but realize they had it tougher than us in many ways. My thanks!
Approx. 1:30 they show Piccadilly Circus and a theatre running "One Rainy Afternoon" starring Francis Lederer - which opened in May 1936, so that quite accurately dates the first scenes.
Crazy to see how in just a couple decades the automobile completely took over all the roads and public space… when you see the older videos, like early 1900s, everything looks so peaceful and quiet… hopefully we can go back to those days of calm streets and pedestrians and trolleys everywhere!
It’s like we’re putting our hands on the window of the past, trying to yell at them and wave at them, but they can’t see us. The closest thing to a Time Machine but only the future can see through the window, the other side is tinted.
It’s hard to imagine that in just a few short years all these cities would be listening to air raid sirens and falling bombs and in some cases stormtroopers.
4:28 Ostend = the queen of the Belgian coastal towns 🇧🇪👑 Unfortunatly most of the authentic buildings facing the beach promenade have made place for modern flats/appartment buildings. Though some historic authentic facades are fortunatly been preserved for current and future generations to visually enjoy. Wondering if my great-grandfather, who was a shipper, was there too at that time. And ofcourse our authenticly well preserved Brugge, we call it our own Belgian Venice 🇧🇪👌
Europe 1930's. Is this calm before the storm or was the a storm already happening. The Nazis were a threat as early as 1931. Hitler knew Himmler-head of the SS since 1921. So the storm was probably already brewing! Thanks for the upload Nass.
If you take a good look at the current model of jeep, especially those with a cloth top or even convertible they’re pretty much the same as the vehicles you see here in this clip. I think that it’s fascinating that they continue to make these vehicles pretty much.
@@nickj4281 yes he does say exactly that. This footage is summer, the air in London in the winter part of the year was absolutely deplorable in the 1930s (4 million homes and businesses belching out smoke relentlessly ). London used to get ‘pea souper’ fogs every winter where the death rate would spike then 5-9 December 1952 saw ‘the great smog’ when literally thousands died. This disaster was the driver for The Clean Air Act 1956 and by the 1960s the air was 100 times more breathable.
The film advertised in the London scenes " Francis Lederer in One Rainy Afternoon " was 1936 just to give a reference point , all this was just before the world went mad , now its going bonkers again but for different reasons .
What's the saying - history doesn't repeat, but it rhymes? We're seeing a replay of the late 1930s with a madman dictator invading his neighbour(s), religious and racial hatred spreading, and people deciding they prefer autocracy to democracy.
There's still decency about, but the revolution is in full swing now....That era started when women would be judged on the quality of their legs, on the features of their faces, on the look of their hair - nothing other than these would matter anymore at the end of the day, and everything else, meaning character and spirit should all adapt to this!!! So, you count one and the other, and we sum up the right name for the new woman (shaped by the new man).....!! ✝️
No if somebody was born in 1930 they would be 93 this year. Some people still living today may have experienced wwi they most likely do not remember it but if you were born for example in 1913 you would be 110 years old this year, still possible.

From a Londoner 😊brilliant film Thank you...great to see not one awful high rise building.
Only the babies and little ones are still with us as adults advanced in their years now. All the other people seen in this video have passed away.
It’s interesting when we get to the third video here compared to London and Paris everything seems quiet, relaxed and calm but something was brewing.
My thoughts too..
Almost all the people wore hats, amazing.

Not a spot of rubbish on any of the streets incredibly clean you wouldn't see anywhere looking so spotless nowadays
I noticed that as well!
Formidable,beau travail, merci 🙏👏
thank you for posting these clips, i just love them
There is a slight purple hue on some of the objects (especially on the carriages at 4:55), but nonetheless a beautiful restoration! Thank you
Did you notice the gentlemen doffing their hats as they walked past the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier under the Arc de Triomphe in Paris? Such respect.
I eagerly await your uploads Nass, simply love em! ❤
Looking at these scenes of bucolic happiness it's always jolting to think of the horrors that would descend on these cities in the next decade.
Ladies and gentlemen, please can we bring back wearing elegant fashion in public again...
Kind regards - from a vintage admirer!
I actually mentioned on a previous video how stylish people look. Even the kids look sharp.
@@sumerlawrence I agree, back when appearances were taken seriously. Makes a change from the clothing choices we often see today.
