- Belgium is honouring former queen Fabiola. Heads of government from around the world have attended a state funeral for the widow of the popular King Baudouin.
Japanese Empress Michiko, Thai Crown Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and Spain's former king Juan Carlos, were among those who joined Belgium's royal family at the Cathedral of Saints Michael and Gudula in central Brussels.
The much-loved 86-year-old Spanish-born monarch had been suffering from ill-health for some time.

The British and the Monegasque Royal families have not attended the funeral. Although at the time Prince Albert II was due to have twins then, Caroline or Stephanie could of attended on his behalf.
hkdiva2015 I wonder why no British member of the royal family attended the funeral? The Queen and Prince Phillip came to her husband’s funeral very strange and very very rude.

@105683797888044954516 Nowhere to be seen which was a disgrace. None of them even turned up for the coronation of the king of Tonga on July 4th. The Windsors think they are better than other royals.
+Sébastien Massart Read somewhere they were in none attendance just like the royals from Monaco. Incredibly enough, QE II attended King Bedouin's funeral in 1993 when it is very well known from her not to have ever attended a funeral, wedding, or any other celebration of any monarch. QEII has a very busy schedule with months ahead in schedule, but when you have 4 children that do attendances in her name as well as 1 son and 3 daughters-in-law, plus grand children that could have represented her....Oh, and forgot her royal cousins which do attend in her representations as well...there just does not seem to be excuses for not to.
+Dunsapie What I heard is that King Boud. and Queen Fabiola didn't attend the funeral of King George 6, father of Queen Elizabeth on 1952. So perhaps it was the response through decades. Really not good
Sorry to break it to you, but King Badouin and Queen Fabiola got married in 1960!!!! So...As well, Queen Elizabeth attended King Badouin's funeral in 1993! And there's the video to prove it.
