Stump Grinding - Clean Up Importance!

Thanks for the video, just had a few stumps grounded out. Hoping to grow some grass & didn’t know what to do next but after reading other comments I should remove the chips, fill with nitrogen rich fertilizer mixed with good soil then seed?

Yes sir it looks like you can rake the chips down a little and throw seed down but it takes about two years for that stuff to break down. Thank you for watching good luck with your project.

So I had a stump grinded and the chips went EVERYWHERE. They didn’t clean up so we took the last 2 days and got a lot of it out the yard but there is still chips everywhere. Can I leave those in the yard? A lot of the chips that were down in the hole are now compacted and extremely hard to get out.

You can definitely leave them there and over time, they will rot and decompose, it may take a while. If you want grass where the stump is, unfortunately you have to take the chips out and put soil back in!

Just had a tree removed from my yard this morning, and they ground the stump but there is like 8 inches of ground up stump above ground! I was told to leave it for a few months and let it settle. then I can remove it if I wanted to put grass down

You can leave it to rot but it will take some time. Best thing is to remove the grindings and backfill with dirt then sow your grass seed.Thanks for watching! Happy 4th of July

Few questions. Tracks or wheels better for these? How do you deal with wet conditions? And do yall ever remove the chips completely or does the customer have them removed? Like say if it was a large pile

Thank you for watching. The tracks are the best. Wet conditions the big machine is not to good. (Chips) we grind for a lot of landscapers they usually take care of them. Are you a stump man?

@@triaddirtworksllc.9444 I want to get back into landscaping. We did primarily design and installs. Some irrigation and lawn care. Stump grinding seems faster and more profit. But equipment cost is expensive.

So no grass is going to grow where you just removed that stump cause you left the chips?

That is correct. The chips that are left in the hole robs all the nitrogen from the soil. To get grass to grow quickly you need to remove a big majority of the chips.
In this case we were working for a landscaper, that will come behind us and remove the chips and fill in with topsoil, and sow the grass. He maintains that yard.
We will remove the chips upon request, but it ultimately reflects on the price due to more labor, and sometimes a 2nd machine on the job. Hope this helps! Thanks for commenting Chris! Enjoy your day

Excellent video and clean up! We had a tree removed but it’s still too wet for stump grinding. Is it ok to leave the chips? Will grass grow back? Thank you :)

Hey TigerM! Thanks for the comment and thank you so much for watching! Unfortunately for grass to grow, you will have to remove the chips. After removal of the chips, you will need to prep the hole with nitrogen-rich fertilizer, and add some topsoil in with it also. I hope this helps! We are experiencing wet weather also here in NC! Didn't see anything cleaned up or removed really mostly just smoothed it out. Clean up involves raking raking / leaf vac hole clean filling w/ pulverized dirt.
