I just bought a house with a pool 30 September 2016. I need to get the cover on for winter and this video really gave me some great information on what to do. Thanks so much for taking the time to make it. All the Best from North Alabama! Sparkie Waller
Most portable compressors do not effectively blow out the 1 1/2" or 2" lines as it does not produce enough volume of air, all you are doing is creating bubbles at whatever pressure you have the compressor set to. You need to use a high volume blower in order to empty the lines of all the water. The other issue with using a compressor is that you risk damaging the system as you plug up the openings, pool systems are only meant to run at low pressure with a max of about 20psi. A high volume blower is much safer and easier on the system.
I have a pool in Minnesota and was told to drain water from pool 3" below returns. This also brings pool water level below skimmers. Did not see any of this in the video. I'm concerned about ice expanding and breaking skimmers and return caps. Thoughts?
how the he'll do you guys not have that cover fall in the pool before drilling anchors? I work in the pool biz and I snap chalk lines for the anchors then put the cover on!
Going to install a safety cover on pool with brick pavers around it. Can I use 3/4 pipe to install the anchors instead of buying the aluminum lawn tube anchors?
Debbie Thompson if done correctly, the base of the anchors will be flush with the concrete pool deck. The anchors are like screws. When you need to use them for the cover, you use the proper bit and unscrew them which will make them pop out of the ground so the covers straps can be held into place. When you take your cover off at the beginning of the pool season, you simply screw the anchors back in and they will be flush with the concrete. If done properly, you won't even know they're there.
Remember to always remove the jandy valve handle for the suction lines so that nobody plays and turns it and ends up unairlocking the main port. I always do that. Also when your drilling the holes, put a piece of tape 3 inches above the drill bit point as a marker so you dont drill to deep or to shallow. It helps.
I'm new to this so I have a couple questions: 1) why don't you use a gizmo in the skimmer? 2) Where should the water level be for a safety cover (I have inground with vinyl liner)? Thanks for a great video!
The gizzmo threads into the fitting in the bottom of the skimmer preventing water from going back down into the plumbing after we blew the lines clear of water preventing freeze damage. The gizzmo also prevents the skimmer from freezing & cracking if water did get back in the skimmer during the winter.
All homeowners BEWARE, if your installers are not measuring before drilling STOP them immediately. I have installed many safety covers and this video gives professionals a bad name. The correct measurements MUST be taken or you'll either have a sagging pool with a vacuum in the middle or holes drilled all over your yard. The correct installation calls for the correct measurements. which are 18" in and 22" out, also the location and type of the anchors you use depends on the structure it will anchor too. If you see these guys coming RUN.

ah that's nice, now.. can you come up to Michigan and do mine?

Is one color better than the other?
Gizmo in skimmers?
Good video, very informative. IMHO your background music is too loud and distracting as it gets louder than the instruction that is being given.
Did not blow out skimmers and add gizmos?
what size bit

They're doing it the right way , lol dunno wtf you're doing , my cover installs are straight and symmetric you just float your cover Bub
Fugazi Zaza
What was the pressure set at on the compressor? I have the same set up but I'm afraid to accidentally crack one of the lines with too much pressure

We only use products the manufacturer recommends
I don't understand when you blow out the main drain, i see the bubbles, don't the water go back into the pipes after blowing the main drain?
after you blow out the main drain then quickly turn the valve at the pump, this closes off the main drain and creates a vapor lock
thanks for the quick response.....
Dumb question, I know, but what do you do with the anchor bolt and collar after winter? It would be a tripping hazard, right?

@@dueeee22 Good to know! Thank you for answering my question!

We do not drain any water out of the pool down here in the south, further north you may want to consider that due to freezing.
I hate to ask but don't you have a lower the water before you winterize your pool
You don't have to lower the water, in fact if you do you take a risk of stretching the springs out too much and ruining the cover
Yeah I guess
Get rid of the music so I can hear the narration...
agreed
