Exterior poles, clips, FULL rain fly, good zippers, neutral color, and I checked $$. And it fits back in its bag. Great tent and nice video editing. Impressive!

Hi Mikael, same here, I have the old version of it. For me it's not a problem since it's low price. Yet I still use it for the last 2 years.
Since my height is only 160cm, I have plenty of room.

I'm glad to hear this. I'm sure you will be happy with the tent. This review is a couple of years old and waaay to long, so I hope I didn't bore you to sleep. ;-) The only thing I would add if I were to do a new review of it is that I think having the door by the head end is a minus. If I had designed it myself I would have hade the door on one of the side. Makes it easier to get in and out of the tent. But otherwise it's a fantastic tent!

Great in depth review. Really well done. Have subbed!! I have this tent and have taken it out on many occasions.... I'm really happy with how it has performed, and the price and weight are great too. On our channel we have seen it in cold wintery conditions, in wind and rain and it has even out performed a pricier MSR tent during 60mph winds.

I have the slightly larger one, the Star River 2, which has a crossing pole at the ridge, giving a bit extra width. Still a bit heavy, at 1.7kg (without footprint). Last summer I decided to spend a bit more money and got myself a Tarptent sent over from the States. They're as good as Nordisk or Hilleberg, if not better, and half the price. You should check them out (the only problem is they always sell out of stock really quickly). I reckon their Scarp 1 would suit a tall fellow like yourself.

Thank you Pete! I am planning on doing an updated review, since this one is two years old. But my overall feeling about the tent hasn't changed much. The only thing I would recommend would be to go for the dark green one instead of the grey if you plan to do some wild camping.
Hi, if you put the poles in a different place on your bike, can you compress it? I would like to fit it between my racing handlebar (44cm wide). Would that work?
What about the four strings that attach to the fly?

Glad you liked it. Hope you stayed awake throghout the whole video. 😉 It's quite long. I've been planning on doing an updated version soon. But I still very much like the tent. The only issues that I've come to think of during the years I've had it is that I would go for the green version instead of the grey one to be a little more stealthy. And I've heard people have had some problems with the zipper. Mine has been ok though. Gets stuck now and then, but nothing I can't live with.

Good thing I saw this video before I bought the tent. I'm 202cm tall so I thought 210cm would be enough but now that you actually measured it I'm not so sure anymore... Thanks for video
I would definitely recommend finding another tent. I guess it depends on how crouched you're used sleeping like, but I guess the cutoff is just over 190 cm.
I've heard the 1 person version is actually longer.
They possibly give the measurement across the diagonal on the floor?
Looks better than BA Fly Crks w a freestandin poleset. Spacious for one. Any issues to date?

I can definitely recommend this tent. I've managed camping with it through thunderstorms without getting a drop on water inside of the tent. And last week I took it out for a bike tour in 0C/32F. What I like most about it is that only takes 5 minutes to pitch/fold together.

Hi! No sorry I haven't reviewed that tent. Yes the vestibule is large enough for you to do you cooking. If you're sitting in the inner tent yourself.

@@egecankocadere hi! So far so good, I've used it for two times. First run (2 days, 50 km) was through a small rain and tent did it well. Also I am 192 centimeters tall and tent fit me good, despite the fact that I expected the worst from not-so-tall Chinese guys, lol. Tent is good wind resisted. It weights about 1,75 kg - a very good for 166 dollars for me.
I have a sea to summit comfort deluxe large also so it does fit ok? Thought it may be to long
Hi Nic! I also have the Large model. If you look back through the video, that is the pad on the left when I'm comparing the two of them. It fits the dimensions of the inner tent exactly without starting to creep up on the walls or putting tension on the inner. So I'll think you'll be fine.
If you're tall and you touch the walls with your feet and head, why dont you sleep diagonally?
I've seen these same tents but with a snow skirt attached to it for an extra price but its only available in white. Do you know if that version is available in green ? i can't find any info.
Hi Vim! Unfortunately I don't think they have the tent with snow skirt in any other color than light grey. At least I haven't found any in green or any other color.

@@BikeTouringMike I m going to travel by boat from Oslo to Kiel and from there to Romania ( Transylvania ) because I m from there but living in Oslo. I bought a Surly disc trucker , ortielib panniers and helsport reinsfjell 2 tent. I start the trip in the middle of july . I think I can make 1600 km in 20 days best regards :)

Hello! No, not really. I've used it at temperature just above the freezing point and I've been fine. I feel that the cold coming off the ground is a bigger problem than from the surrounding air. Plus the outer tent has a fabric door, so closing that prevents the cold air from drafting through.

Hi, Mike ! My naturehike cloud up 2 tent arrived yesterday and I'm so excited to test it .But after i received the tent i realized some differences ( my tent is green and have the tent fly made of polyester PU3000mm , your grey model have the tent fly made of nylon silicone
PU4000mm ) .Do you have any sugestion about the polyester or nylon when you have to choose a tent ) . I'm thinking to change the tent .Thanks !
I know that there are two different types of material. Nylon is probably the one to prefer. Nylon stretches more than polyester, so it distributes stress over a large are than polyester. Therefore polyester is more prone to wear and tear. So if you have a possibility of changing it, it might be a wise thing to do. Where did you order it from?

I used to when I was younger. I'm a referee nowadays. But I have three kids that play, so we play a lot out in the driveway. Unfortunately I'm more of a Maple Leaf fan myself. 😉

Unfortunately I haven't been able to test in the rain yet. But otherwise than that I can really recommend it. Stood up well against the wind when I tried it out in windier conditions.

@@maz2496 Well I guess in kind of depends on the sleeping bag and the sleeping pad also. But I've used it down to +5C and been fine.
Is this tent good for tall person like me ??(193cm). I couldn't choose between the two tents Cloud up 2 20d and Star River 15d. In heavy rain 15d fabric is good ???
I have no problems fitting inside it, and I am 188 cm, and I doubt 5 cm will do that much of a difference. But I guess it has a bit to do with the way you sleep. I'm a side sleeper, so I require a little bit less space length wise than people that sleep on their back.
Regarding the fabric, I don't have any experiences with 15D, but the 20D that I have has been bomb proof.
Thanks for this review, Mike. Question: Was this the same tent that proved NOT to be waterproof on one of your more recent trips? I recall the a significant amount of water made its way into one of your tents during one of your tours. Looks like a very nice and affordable tent, but of course I'm always concerned about waterproofing.
If you're thinking about the flooding in Provence it that tent you're thinking of. But I did get plenty of water underneath it (or actually between the footprint and the inner) that time, not inside the tent. In fact I didn't get one single drop of water inside, so I'm very pleased with it's water resistance.

Hej Mikael, why did you choose this tent model? It looks quite a bit like the MSR Hubba NX, yet on both models it seems to be a challenge to keep the innertent dry if you have to build-up under rain. What is your expierence with that ? Also could you add the links to the other material you mentioned ?
I choose it after reading a brunch of positive reviews. Yeah, it's pretty similar to the Hubba NX and Big Agnes Copper Spur. I was actually looking for a tent with this freestanding design. I already have another tent made for rainy Nordic conditions called Bergans Trysil 2. So if it looks like a rainy tour I have the option of choosing that tent instead. But the issue of raising it during rain is really a non issue for me. I just wait out the rain. And the inner tent is only exposed for a minute or so anyway.
I have that tent too, im not too concerened of pitiching it in the rain. But still i have to find out how to pack the wet rainfly without touching the inner tent...

Hi Tomasz! I'm not sure if you mean if the tent holds up to the rain well? If that is the case you can watch this one: ua-cam.com/video/Zv9K2juI4Lg/v-deo.html. And yes it holds up very well. If you're wondering what I do, when it rains, I usually just wait out the rain and hope it ends/dies down in a couple of hours and head out when it seems better outside. Usually there is some break in the rian sometime during the day, and I feel like if I at least start when it's not raining I'm fine. I can take rain further on in the day. I don't really mind cycling in the rain if it's not super cold at the same time.
Hi Mike. Let me ask some questions related to the tent. I wonder how to put it up when it is raining. I noted that the upper part in the roof is covered in mesh abd might not be waterproof. Is there any chance thatvthe weather will get inside? What will you do when it's raining? How do you put up the tent. Will the tent get wet inside?
In my current tent, I can assemble the extrernal protective layer first and then connect it witht the internal tent without risk of getting wet.
So could please provide me with additional details how does it work with this model?

Well, I guess it depends if you are a side sleeper or if you sleep on your back. If your a side sleeper you're gonna be just fine. But if you like to stretch your legs ut's going to be a bit snug. Like I said in the video. I'm 188 cm and I like to sleep on the side, and I've slept like a baby every night in this tent. And it's very spacious for one person in the evening when you maybe want to sit up and eat, do some computer work, read etc.
@@BikeTouringMike I have been looking for this tent quite a while for my bike touring also. I am 187 cm (Finnish person here :-), us Nordics...) so it is good to hear that you fit in there fine. I have a hammock for travelling in Finland, but outside Finland I cannot count on there being convenient trees anywhere I want to stay and this seems like a great opinion for a freestanding tent.
I am also adopting your CTC bike bag idea, I love the idea of a soft shell bags, but there just is no way I could take one of those with me when travelling so I would need to leave from the same airport I arrived to. Thank you Mike for all the experience you are sharing. It is really valuable.

I can’t decide. I am debating if I should get a more affordable one like the cloud up2 or splash out on a hubba hubba. The price difference is just insane so i am not sure if it’s actually worth it?
I can't recommend this tent enough. The only thing I would consider is maybe going for the dark green one that has come out since I got mine. Makes for a stealthier tent when doing some wild camping.

Jag skulle vilja fråga dig om det är möjligt att monter den vattentäta sidan först och sedan resten av tältet. Chansen av regnet är alltid hög här i Finland och det är aldri roligt att lägga sig i ett blöt tält. Tack ska du ha!
Hej Marcello! Tyvärr går det inte att montera tältet på det sättet (med yttertältet först. Eller det kanske kan gå, när jag tänker efter. Men innertältet blir nog lika blött ändå, då det är ganska krångligt. Jag har monterat det i regn, och bara man vet hur man ska montera det går det oftast så pass fort att innertältet aldrig blir med blött än ett par droppar som man kan torka av med lite papper. Jag har bara varit med om detta en gång på totalt kanske 50 nätter i det. Det var i Frankrike i ett regn som jag skulle likna vid monsunregn. Det blev lite blött inne i tältet, men inte värre än att jag kunde torka av det med min handduk. I Sverige har jag aldrig upplevt att det varit något problem, då vi inte har lika kraftigt regn oftast.

How to tell the diff between the upgraded and non upgrade versions? Thank you!
The upgraded one is self standing and has a pole system that looks like a Y in both ends. The old one only has one pole on one end and looks like a Y in the front and a I at the foot end. But by now I doubt that there are any of the old version avaliable. They changed the design back in 2018, so the old one has probably been discontinued by now.

Hello gula jawa! It is definitely good for 10C. On my latest trip I used it on night that were around 2-3C, and it was fine. It depends more on which sleeping bag and sleeping pad you use.

Guilherme beat me to the punch, but yes it can be pitched on any flat surface. Just look for the upgraded version, but as he said all new ones are that version.

@@BikeTouringMike Great! Thanks for your quick answer! I've seen that Aliexpress has the most recent version of the tent at the cheapest price but is the seller trustable? I have seen a few negative opinions on them, especiall on the delivery. Have you ever encountered any problems?
@@pierrehennion717 The thing about Aliexpress is that you can expect about 3 weeks delivery time. They are honest about that and tell you that when you order. The few times I've ordered from they're always delivered before estimated delivery date. The package usually consists of a black plastic bag wrapped around whatever you have ordered, so that gives it a kind of low class feeling.
Good review, thanks Mike. How about when the tent gets wet? I like the look of the army green version of the cloud up, but its fabric is nylon like yours I believe...
When it has rained all night, doesn't the nylon absorb some of that wetness? If yes I'll probably opt for the polyester version which as far as I understand is much more water resistant.
I saw a video of a very similar tent where the tent had expanded a lot after the rain making it a pain to pack, and wet too.
Hi Paul! I haven't had any problems with it getting wet. In fact I've packed it down wet several days in a row during a recent trip in Provence, France. I usually just hang it up in a tree for a while when I reach camp, so that the rain fly will be able to dry before I pitch it again. I also try to separate the inner from the fly sheet when I pack it down in the morning. The inner is always dry, so I don't want that to get wet during the day. Wrong colour for camping out in the wild, at least in my part of the world where only green or dark blue will do. I can understand that white is a good colour to keep the tent cooler, but it only really works here if you're traveling around staying at nice & safe backpacker's hostels.
Hi Geoff! The tent is avaliable in green as well, but that option wasn't avaliable when I purchased mine. For me it doesn't really matter, at least when I'm touring in Sweden, Norway and Finland. I don't really need to go stealth mode here. There are plenty of forests everywhere here.
And snow! Then white would make sense, huh?
I have another problem with these ultralight tents: I think that the manufacturers make the groundsheets too thin on purpose so that they can claim that they're the lightest on the market and then charge double or triple or 10 times the price (although not with this one you've reviewed, which is refreshing). So you have to get a "footprint" as well, which they never include in the weight when they are marketing the tent.
It's so fishy, I'd rather have one which weighs a bit more but that has a decent groundsheet. So I'm after the Vango Blade 100 Pro as my next tent - small but you can sit up in it, decent waterproofing and it seems like a decent groundsheet. And also green.
@@geoffl3108 What Mike is referring to is that there is no need to "stealth camp" anywhere in the Nordics as there is something called "all man's rights" which gives the right to camp anywhere without having to hide.
What a nice system, maybe I'll make it up there in a few years.

I, as a person who like to spend time inside the tent, want to choose a bit broader tend like www.huskyeu.eu/ultralight-sawaj-2-green By the way I'm not backpackager or bike tourer. I'll use it as one person only in summer at weekends 8-10 times in a year and mostly will go to countryside with car. What do you think of this tent? Do you know husky brand. I spent days on the tents and brands like marmot, msr, big aynes, naturehike with all models etc. None of them are high as husky. It's 120 in sawaj 2 and 130 in sawaj 3 from floor to the top inside the tent. I want to learn your opinion. I'm 180cm and 105 kg.
Well considerations are very different when you are carrying your kit and weight matters. If you drive to your camping locations, your criteria is clearly very different.
