about ten years ago i went to a show of his. i was still in my work clothes which made me look like inspector gadget and i stuck out like a sore thumb. ok so he was eyeing me suspiciously and i believe he thought i was some kind of cop or inspector and he was purposely acting like he was going to fall off stage like it was an accident hoping to rattle me or something. maybe he thought i was a building inspector. but yeah he walked right up to me between sets and just stood in front of me chest to chest and wouldn't move. he's a shorter guy maybe 5'6 5'7. he stood there for a while and it became sort of an uncomfortable scene. i guess he was trying to make a point that he was going to give me shit because i didnt belong there or shouldnt be making him paranoid or something. i didnt take it too personally because i knew it must have been that i looked like a city inspector there to give him problems by making sure theyre within code or something he may have dealt with before. i think what drew his attention initially was that there were these goofy dudes doing really weird dancing and sort of bumping into whoever which was pissing me off because they were bumping me. it was a small venue. anyway so that's my ariel pink story. i love his music but fuck him he's a little bitch.

The track by Messiaen, for organ, is Apparition de l'Église éternelle. It is not inspired by bird song, but some of Messiaen's later work definitely was, such as Réveil des Oiseaux.
