Ariels music always reminded me of what my parents music sounded like to me as a small child, sitting in the back of the car while classic rock radio played.
"This is why it's more important than ever to fight for things that are wrong, and to let people think the wrong things, you need to basically allow people to do those things, think things that are completely ridiculous and wrong, you need to defend them like they're real. It's not about being right." - Ariel Pink
His bit about wanting to hold back artists from mainstream popularity is so perfect, you see something that is held by a dedicated fanbase that treats their favored artist like a cult, the artist's sound maintains their anticipated quality, not feeling that it needs to change for outside influences. But you may get an occasional act, like Coldplay or U2, that needs to keep appealing to a large dedicated or loose fanbase, that their quality of output turns very poor for all listeners. This is just a guess, but this is sort of why the dedicated fanbase may feel jilted.
Reminds of the lyrics from the song “Empty Head” by Catherine Wheel “Of the things a popular song can bring, A permanent picture of hope is what I hate the most”
I think Ariel, right now, is a totally independent artist with no management so I’m guessing it’s easier to contact him without jumping through any hoops or nonsense to do that I guess
damned there is some Ariel's fans that are totally lost mentally, they almost follow everything he says as if he was a prophet or something... Guys ! He's not politically literate, do you analyse what he says ? It's rambles after rambles. Great musician and producer, but don't follow him towards ideology or social/political issues seriously....
True iconoclasm, ironically, bucks the lemminghood of liberalism. MAD MAD MAD respek to Ariel for having a spine and standing up to the fascistic monster.
I love Ariel's music, but he either is really bad at expressing himself, doesn't know what he's talking about, or is playing a conservative pundit character perfectly. My favorite quote I think is "Change is your enemy....The only thing that can combat change is the human spirit." lol
it is pretty stupid indeed, I don't see why people listen to what he has to say about politics and/or policies, the guy is obviously not very literate on these subjects. I think he's a contrarian. It's a shame tho, he produced some very interesting material, he really shouldn't have fall into this big mistake called politics as a musician.
38:58 I love him but he’s hardly ever worked a real job in his life, and would never in a million years ever be considered blue collar, by any blue collar metric. He’s a classic example of an artist who was privileged enough to not have to worry so much about finances, and then able to fully pursue his work. Not a bad thing, but not a blue collared artist at all. He’s from Beverly Hills ffs
beverly hills isnt all upper class. and hes blue collar in the music industry in that hes touring small venues. he probably makes a living wage but not mick jagger.
His is/was a very wealthy physician and surgeon - then he got busted in a massive multi million dollar medical fraud scheme in Orange County CA - Ariel comes to grifting naturally I reckon
Finding out about Ariels political views was like the greatest and most surreal thing ever. Been loving his music for years, but for some reason he's like the last person on the planet I would take for a Trump supporter. Love him.
@@marvinm.messier1120 he's "anti group thinking" ? He 's been very vocal over his support to Trump and said he would vote for him, then he stayed vocal on his support for Trump all along until the end and he participated in republican demonstrations. Seems pretty basic and just contrarian toward the indy milieu to me. The guy is not really an outsider politically, let's be real.
Love Ariel but he could cut about 70% of what he says.. All the "uhm" "ahh" "well well well.." "i think... i think uhm... ahhh" "these people are are are are they're they're you know know they've:.. ahh ahh ahh ahh..."
well - his opinions consequently ruined his career, because a crowd of intellectual toddlers wouldn't allow his dissent. He's entitled to talk about it as long as he wants.
I saw him give an interview to another smaller channel a few months ago. I don’t think it’s a relegation, it’s just Ariel being a genuine and approachable guy. It seems he’ll give anyone an interview if he thinks they’re fair and honest. Which is pretty cool, considering the undeniable importance of his early work.
Ariels music always reminded me of what my parents music sounded like to me as a small child, sitting in the back of the car while classic rock radio played.
Thats exactly what said that was what he was trying to recreate, in the B.E.E. podcast
@@deengew Well he achieved it. It also reminds me of what commercial jingles sounded like to me as a kid.
Ariel's an extremely intelligent and insightful guy. Refreshing to hear someone of this caliber freely speak his mind. Really great conversation.
Maybe too much acid though...lost soul...stuck in the muck of the material world..fearful.
Ariel, please tour again!!!!
"There's nothing to look forward to, except if you're a teenager then hopefully, but they can't see it...there is no hope." - Ariel Pink
Ariel is just a true artist
Artists are outsiders they can’t be contained by society and it’s groups
That's true!
All i gotta say is that Michaelangelo threw bricks at a pope when he got tired of said pope keeping on his progress on the day
😅😅😅😅 no he isnt. He is a racist and homophobe who went to Jan 6th and his record label doesnt want to to business with which is their right cry
We love you Ariel. Keep doing what you do, brother. We have your back.

To consider that everything is political is definitely not totalitarianism. Totalitarianism refers to absolute control by the state.

i think Richard ran the sublime frequencies label with Alan if im not mistaken
Got to meet Sir Richard at a show in Richmond, my friend and I were the only audience members. Spent hours hanging out and picking his brain. Legend
