The amount of knowledge Phil has is crazy. Personally I been watching his videos trying to learn from him every little thing I'm new to long range shooting and I been learning alot to the point that I'm reloading my own ammo the accuracy I'm getting with hand loads is pretty nice and so far I'm enjoying the journey

I concur on the jaw-weld, and it tends to make it easier to keep your head level. Like how Phil explained adding trigger pressure during the breathing cycle, I’m going to adopt a version of that.
The problem I've had for years is eye relief. Even when setting up scope at full mag and as rearward as possible in the rings, I'd still be too far away for a full field of view thru the optic. Only remedy was to shorten the stock, which feels less natural but until we have low mounting systems available that will bring the scope further toward the eye, I'm stuck with a shorter LOP. Many of my stocks are down to 12.5" to accommodate cold weather thicker jackets while setting up prone properly. The heavy jackets would push the buttstock even further from my eye. Otherwise, the ideal LOP for me is about 13" even though 13.5 feels more natural but that was a few decades ago when I was pocketing the buttstock in the shoulder where it didn't belong.
Thanks for putting this together Jared. I have not been able to figure out where to place the back end of the rifle on my collar bone like you were doing. Can you offer any other suggestions on how you figured out where the butt stock should be placed?
@@toddb930 How’s it going man, I like the way that Phil stated it, “as medial as possible.” Medial means toward the middle or center. It is the opposite of lateral. The challenge is to not brace for recoil, but to simply accept it and allow the deadweight of your body to absorb the recoil. Our body position is what allows that recoil to track in a straight line parallel to thebore.
@@botwtv -- thanks Jared, that makes sense. In my current approach, using the shoulder pocket, I strive to relax my shoulder before releasing the shot. This has help my precision and consistency a lot. I'll play around some more with a more medial stock butt placement.
Agreed. But you can use it to build a ballistic chart on a 3x5 notecard that you can also water-proof, that you can slap on the side of the buttstock of your rifle. Ask me how I know.
Choosing Phil to work with on this video was a great choice. When he speaks people listen!

Great video! I sure wish I could take an in-person class from Phil and Caylen. I love their content they produce.
Awesome video and good info. Looking forward to the upcoming hunts
Awesome info, my brain is swollen...you kept it reasonable without getting too technical. Looking forward to the next lesson !

Insightful advice. Especially about using the bag

Hunters running 3 pound triggers haha. I know a lot of hunter that have them factory set at like 5 plus pounds. These are very helpful. Thank you
Great information. Thanks
Wow!
Anybody else pause at 19:50 to go grab a rifle?
My favorite comment so far!
I like your hornady map if your at a range. Hunting, no way- you don’t have that much time.
