The Ancient Art of Painting on Water
Вставка

- Garip Ay’s paintings come to life in the most extraordinary way. The Turkish artist uses an ancient technique called ebru, or marbling. He drops and flicks dyes onto water treated with a wetting agent that keeps the pigment from sinking. Then he swirls and shapes the vibrant colors into images that spring from his imagination. It takes a deft hand and special handmade tools to paint this way. Ay invites us into his studio in Istanbul to watch him create.

One can’t have more flexible canvas than water.

While some artists literally just put a dot of paint in the canvas and get so much money for it
Jamal Custodio yea. It’s ridiculous smh 🤦🏻♀️
my mother is an artist (who focuses mainly on oriental paintings like Ebru and Minyatur). I used to have really bad nightmares in my childhood. I remember waking up at 3-4 AM from nightmares (about 9 years old, 14 years ago) and my mother was making this beautiful Ebru masterpieces when I woke up. I remember being soothed and amazed by the flow during the act of painting and sleep on her legs. It is like a balance between chaos and tranquility.

I’ve never realised how beautiful the language Turkish sounds. Damn
He just have decent vocals
Yeah I agree
I went to Turkey a few times and Turkish sounds beautiful.
There are lots of accents. Some are actually ave aspiring. Personally I like old Istanbul accent better. It is extremely sweet and gentle. Not many speakers left though.
Élégante personné turkish has a lot of french words in it
Every language sounds beautiful, if you know how to speak propel.
Wow, now that is impressive. He's such a talented artist
Hey I see you in many comments
Viva la revolusione
Painter: I ran out of canvases! I can't paint anymore!
Him: Allow me to introduce myself
I can say that in a moment I was hypnotized with his neat and clear way of speaking Turkish, such a magical thing to experience. Everyone should be proud of his language thought, and proceed on the way of articulating and pronouncing it. Big up ❣️
Ancient Art of Painting on Water. Such a beautiful and exquisite way to paint.
Yo this is so cool, Turkish culture seems really neat, I know they also have great love for cats

Loving cats is more of a muslim thing I believe !! Muslims in my area all have cats and feed them!!
@@archita5657maybe, i dunno. its a bad thing to have a dog in house in islam but having a cat isnt. I think because cats clean themselves and in islam being clean so important
He has a really good voice, he can express what he's saying really good
Amazing art
And one more thing, I never knew Turkish sounded so awesome, its like french and Japanese mixed together for a first time listening. Not harsh like Arabic, very "smooth"
@Ahmed El-Mhemadawi I UA-camd Fairuz, different to find but it is okay. I guess language and accents are subjective, as someone who doesn't know the language, first time hearing it.. To me there is alot of halting in the speech, its almost like water in a bottle and it is flowing yet you quickly tilt the bottle and the water halts and starts flowing the other direction, that's how it is to me. Now water is smooth, yet when you halt the flow and change direction, there are moments where the flow is interrupted, that's how I feel when I hear Arabic.
Like I said it is subjective and this Turkish just was a shock, I didn't realise it was so smooth
Japanese and Turkish are from a closely related or same language family if I'm not remembering my Turkish lessons wrong
@@tartagliathe11th33 they are all from the altay languages
Amazing. I didn't even know this art form existed.
Actually, there's similar art style developed in Far East.
@@rusdanibudiwicaksono1879 far east ?
Rusdani Budi Wicaksono That’s the one I thought this was going to be. Imagine my surprise when I heard Turkish instead of Japanese. I’ll be honest, I find his work even more beautiful than the Japanese examples I saw a friend make one time.
For some odd reason, I was thinking about the drawing arts by coffee baristas all along. BTW, that's awesome arts works there.
koko nana yeah I feel like he would be the best latte artist ever

@Raflamar yes
Imagine watching someone do this or trying to do it while high.
The colour will be on their face

I can watch those paintings being painted all day. Watching it seems relaxing.
That blew my mind. I'd love to see more on the process of transferring to paper. But also to see them transform from one image to the next was amazing, in not only beauty, but temporariness
you can just check his youtube channel. search for garip ay
That's incredible talent out there. This artist shown in the video and the art of painting on water - Ebru needs to be appreciated. Hats off for this amazing talent 🙌🙏
I love your videos. I am happy about see a Turkish in this channel. I love Ebru. It is an important art for our culture.
The process of making the art is a beautiful art itself, feels psychedelic.
Great Big Story is my favorite type of journalism- sort of videos. I love how diverse it is and each video always is intriguing without getting overly political. It’s nice to watch them when so many things are going wrong this year. Good job to the channel!
I had a science teacher from turkey that started an Ebru club. It was so fun, but the paint and chemicals had this unique smell that I’ll never forget
Draws well on the water ,

His art is stunning. They're so beautiful.
I used to do this in middle school, it really thought me patience, acceptance and how to improvise.
Honestly I’m just in awe
He is veryyy talented artist. I tried to make ‘ebru’. It was so hard. Cause paint spread verry quickly. You must control this. But ıt was funny. I want to try again.
It's like art and physics combined. Hard to master one or the other, sheer genius to bridle both simultaneously. No one can reach the heights of Garip Ay - so don't frustrate yourself! Keep playing, "go with the flow". Enjoy the experience in the moment, just have fun.
I could watch easily an hour of this just with some music. So relaxing.
Adamsın Garip
I remember being fascinated by this as a child. This gave me such good vibes !
such a beautiful art.
beautifully filmed too
thank you for sharing!
This is absalutely beautiful, thank you for sharing this with me,I appreciate it
I would really like buying one of his paintings!
Your channel is a must! Love you!
I could watch this all day... the painting process is soo relaxing 🥰
That's some skill he's developed!! Hats off to you.
Also, The Scream's mouth expanding made me chuckle😂
This video is mesmerizing to watch
This brings me back to when my mum would do this- We called it "Marbling" because of the effect it had on the paper. She just did it mindlessly, and it always turned out being so beautiful. She never aimed for something, like Ebru does, but it was a beautiful representation of colour.
Sometimes I could forget, how great are these great big stories videos.
This just made my day
Damn ! Even dissolving the painting is another creation itself...
an everlasting art...
That was amazing ! What a medium and what a talent ! Spectacular and mesmerizing!!
Ungewöhnlich perfekte wundervolle Kunst, Glückwunsch an den Künstler Garip Ay 👏👏👏
I used to water paint when I was a kid. This is a whole new level. Beautiful.
wow that's cool
This is incredible!
The fact that he lives in Turkey makes everything even more meaningful. As a Turkish artist its so difficult to just live here. People are so far from art, and it's culture. You are so brave for incooperating traditional ebru with the classics Garip Ay. I wish i can learn ebru from you.
I never search for this channel. But, I'm not regret for subscribing this channel.
Learning so much from this channel
This production quality alone deserves 10m subs.
What a beauty! ♥️
I did this art when I was younger in elementary school. This is very relaxing and fun to make
Never clicked on a notification that fast
This is so satisfying to watch
I remember watching a kids show where there are some kids doing some experiments and trying some stuff, and oil paint in water is one of them. This brought me back, and I'm more impressed.
Next level watercolor painting .
This is extraordinary. Such an interesting concept.
Beautiful.

He does this a lot. I'm amazed 😯🌷
And its me who can't even paint on paper.

This is like the best art project for kids. Sure the ones I made back when I was little looked bad but it was hella fun

I never know how magical turkish language sounds..
This is epic!
So cool.....got to meet him and see him paint live in Toronto during the Van Gogh exhibit
I love ebru paintings but just as he said, it's relaxing to the viewer while it is actually stressful to the artist. I tried doing it once but I could not go farther than a mix of colors and a vague flower figure 😅
Amazing talent...
Amazing, It's unique technic
If music were imagery, I'm pretty sure this would be it
