Explorer main here. I alternate between hiding and sneaking around. I equip max airwalk as well, so my tiny footprints disappear in 1 sec. It's especially hilarious when the hunter has tinnitus and they waste a ton of time looking for me. I once won a rank match when the hunter teleported to the gate I was at, but couldn't see me hiding. He wasted so much time searching for survs. When I thought I was done for, all my teammates escaped from the other gate. The hunter thought I was heading for that gate too and it was too late to stop me, so he surrendered and we got a perfect win lol but in reality, I was still crouching right next to him!
As a high tier survivor, here is what and why I disagree: Prisoner has no kiting debuff and usually decoders end up kiting most of the match. He also has a good decoding buff when he connects to a cipher in the beginning of a game and doesnt transfer progress, the cipher he is connected to also gets a buff, which is what you should do. Only leave decoding other's ciphers to mid/endgame, then cipher rush is bigger. Also dont connect random ciphers at the beginning, wait a bit to see who is decoding which cipher. Dancer isnt a decoder (has never been) and with her most recent nerf her boxes dont affect her decoding speed as much anymore, so stacking fast music boxes is just ignorance at this point, just use them to kite. Explorer should hide early game if spawn near hunter, get a page to 49% (or hunter gets notified on where he is) and decode normally, then use his page as soon as someone downs. Bring air walk and the hunter will never find you early game. Postman is a helper, not a decoder, but he is dependant on teammates. Bring barmaid instead, she helps and kites better. Lawyer is now a raw kiter that decodes REALLY fast. He is pretty meta. Composer is pretty useless as his speed boosts depend on wether or not you can hit the calibrations and he cant check his surroundings. Mech is a burden in current meta. She only has her doll, it got nerfed to only be able to decode like a normal survivor and she herself is useless. TME is great in two story settings and if you have good team communication. Dont even think of solo queuing as her.
fr as prisioner main, first thing i look for a good cipher that is not too exposed as hunters are always savy for prisioner/decoders and if no one started a cipher, i jsut connect to any cipher i think hunter is not close to so i can advance my own cipher, and than when cooldown is up i connect to the worst most exposed cipher with progress so we can finnish it already finnish the cipher of the person who went rescue if its primed already, or accelaret other second cipher it always depends right i try to make people decode certain ciphers too cause depending on cipher locations and the hunter, if all the last ciphers are all close it can be decisive for end game

Characters like prisoner are higher up in the meta specifically because you can use the support of your teammates to cipher rush at absolutely insane speeds. Meanwhile, despite having a pretty solid decoding speed with the bot, Mech has fallen in meta because theyve nerfed her to the point of near unusability (though, she will always be at least a little in the meta because the benefit of having another body on the field cannot be understated 😅) My friends have done tests before, and assuming you have a match where someone five cipher kites, characters like Prisoner and mech are going to cipher rush the strongest because they dont lose as much time transitioning from cipher to cipher, meanwhile lawyer, minds eye, and explorer struggle with that transitional period. Having said all of this, idv is largely a game about playstyle preference per character, so you know.
As an explorer main I agree with the transitions. It's specially annoying if the kiter is rotating around the first page even if you tell them to get away from that area most of them don't listen to the opportunity to dig is lost
As a Postman main i agree that he can help A LOT in a variety of ways, he can be good at decoding and give buffs to other survivors, and also, he doesn't need anyone in the match to benefit from his buffs since he can read the letter giving the effect instantly to him only (i do this when im kiting)
As a prisoner main myself I use cipher machines to decipher 2 at once by having one of them nearly above progress than the other one (the one im decoding) its a very very useful tool for decoding just make sure you not making dumb connections and make sure the connection loss is at low, moderate and high are gonna be way too slow.
I mean, prisoner's useful if you have survs like merc and forward who have decoding debuffs and would be away from the cipher to assist, anyway. Basically, prisoner just makes them decode faster and finish their ciphers when they have to leave. Also pretty handy when you need to pop the last cipher at a distance
You forgot thief with his increased calibration rate, although pretty minor decoding buff, it still applies to everyone on the team and he also has a flashlight for harass and kiting. You also forgot mercenary, he can decode.
Each character has their role, pros and cons. Also, I don't see an issue placing 1 music box, it is 25% speed, almost like TME. The recent Lawyer buff is quite good though.

Action speed refers to things like *throwing pallets and vaulting windows*. Interaction speed refers to things like *decoding and healing*. One music box gives Dancer 6% faster decoding speed, followed by a 3 second stun from placing the music box and then picking it up afterwards.
The problem with using fast boxes to decode is that the time spent putting it down and picking it back up actually is the same as the amount of time saved by using it, so there’s really no benefit, just the risk of losing it (and potentially making your location more obvious to the hunter). It can still be worth doing in niche situations, like lategame when multiple teammates are working on the same cipher that has little progress, or if you are going to heal a teammate next to the cipher and then decode it. Usually though the slow boxes are what makes dancer a meta character. When I play her, if I know hunter might come for my cipher, I put a slow box by a pallet near my cipher. If the hunter approaches, I can drop the pallet over the box, buying me loads of time, and if the hunter doesn’t go after me, I can pick it back up.
I think Luca especially shines in being able to finish ciphers that are far away and almost done, and helping the rescues finish fast or finish their cipher when their not done so the rescue can be in time to rescue
Back when I was new at the game my main was Explorer as decoder, and I mostly spend my time finding treasures instead of actually decoding. Now I completely changed my mains to Postman as decoder or rescue and Magician as kiter and rescue
Tracy is slow in decoding when teammates get injured, but she can be really good when you know how to use the bot, where to put the bot, and how to raw kite, same with Helena.
Imo just because they have good decoding potential that does not make them "better" than the decoders, the main core of decoder is to efficiently decode and manage to pop all 5 ciphers in the fastest way, prisoner can reduce time to move between ciphers and help rescuer/supporter finish their cipher when needed, Mechanic's reason to be the top tier is her doll which makes your team have 1 more "survivor", Lawyer/TME/explorer's ability is to hide from the hunter and giving information to your team, Composer is just composer-. I don't get if this video is about "who decode faster" or "Postman and female dancer are probably much better than decoders"
As a composer main, I disagree with him being "worse in survivability" than any of the rest. The cooldown of 50 seconds on his tuning fork might seem long, but if ya use a fork and vault, the speed boost (in my experience at least) is more than enough to get most hunters to just give up because they don't want to run a marathon. And when they DO catch up to you after the speed boost, you just have to kite like half a minute or less and then you can send them back in the dust again. Unlike say postman, where his letters are inconsistent as they are not as instant as the fork since you need them to arrive at their destination (unless you want to send it to yourself and risk having near no ability for quite a bit) and the dog really doesn't have as much of an effect as the sheer speed you get from a fork+vault. Though considering his incredible support abilities, its not worse nor better. For dancer to use her ability well you need at least some skill, as if you want to kite with the boxes, you need to consider your distance to the hunter and have enough time to place it, as well as having only 3 boxes. I'm not saying that they are worse, just not better than composer in terms of survivability.
But Female dancer is a Kiteing Character and most of the time you need her Boxes as Slow Boxes to Kite, don't know if i could count that as a Decoder only because of the Boxes when her main reason is to Kite with those. The main question is: What is a decoder someone that can decode faster, without anything, then a normal surv or someone that need something to decoder faster? When the second one is also count as a decoder then, every survivor is a decoder in the moment A Dancer/Postman is in the Match or after 3 Minutes when the accelerated decoding buff is activated. I for myself would none of those two count as a decoder. As a Postman i use more Kite, Rescue or even Hatch letters to help the others to Kite/Rescue or escape then i ever use a Decode letter.

I don't know how much decoding speed you gain from music boxes, but I can assure you that it is NOT 25%

As a Luca main, I notice matches go best decoding wise when I play Luca. Also imo he’s an okey kiter aswell
I think prisoner is a balanced/okey/good character as he is and a rework/buff like people are suggesting could actually make him broken

It's a living nightmare when you bump into a Tracy or Helena main who knows how to raw kite and mind game really well.
