If you are a new player in Identity V, or you are a survivor main and have wanted to try out hunter but aren't completely sure where to start, then this video is the one for you. Here I create a tier list of hunters going from the worst choice to the best choice for beginner hunters to pick if they want easy to pick up and easy to win with hunters in lower to mid tiers. Enjoy the explanation as to why I have put each hunter in each tier as you watch some Identity V gameplay examples.

i asked the english chat in idv as a beginner which hunter to try out and somebody said mad eyes and that he was the easiest. i still have nightmares of that match to this day
Awhhh :((
english chats are a menance to scoiety
omiGOD
when I started to play idv I wanted to main dream witch at the end of the match I couldn’t get anyone and would just take pictures with the survivors at the gate it was very wholesome though!
Dream Witch was one of the first hunters I learnt too. I wanted to drop myself in the deep end!
When I started playing, my first hunter on my old account was bloody queen, but I losted it at season 13, so I made a new one at season 14 and first hunter on newest account was sculptor I enjoyed her before I brought dream witch
One funny thing is, I started out as a survivor main, and when I switched to hunter, I kinda immediately caught on Naiad quite quickly. This is exactly due to my previous kiting route knowledge as a survivor main, and thus I can make my water placement with fair efficiency. Naiad may seem difficult for someone who has just started the game, but for someone who wants to switch faction after some time, I highly recommend her.
Hell ember with insolence + teleport/blink is amazing. His camping power is actually better than some meta.
You are right there!
A ember who knows how his phantom works is scary
Appreciate you for sharing this got a lot of wins with this
I think confined space is better since he breaks pallets slow and has no anti kite except phantom. Also berserker might be one of the best perks of him
Aww yes, I remember almost a year ago when I was new to the game, I asked my oldie friend who has played before which hunter is the best choice for starter like me, and he answered Dream Witch.
Chad
@@KickTheBaby_LeoPaterson I started playing idv and I asked the guy who recommended me the game which is the best hunter, he said breaking wheel, my first 5 MONTHS were an absolute nightmare, i really liked him but i couldn't use him efficiently, now, 2 years later Im an A badge wheel, he is not that strong anymore but I think is a lot of fun to play when you use him correctly
Stop- Percy was the most terrifying hunter in like the entire game when I was a beginner. I used to ban him in ranked because of how scared I was of him. I still despise him and take every chance to bully him when I have a match against someone using him.
I honestly thought Sculptor and Gamekeeper would’ve been very difficult to understand but since I recently started using them so I can get more dice by doing their deductions I realize that they’re actually pretty easy to use once you start understanding their skills
Excuse me,naiad is on c tier?
I think shes pretty easy to use.Sometimes you doesnt really need to create a pool with her, just put her hairpoon whenever you want and go to the survivor easily because her fast movement when swimming mode. And boom you can hit survivor easily.
i think chasing like that would take ages though. its difficult to camp with her water if you dont know how to use her harpoon, especially since it’s extremely important when it comes to camping and such
@@mortuuscibum yes I'm an oldbie but I rarely win her
i agree. i feel like you dont need a lot of skill to play naiad and is so much easier than some higher up hunters for beginners
The point is to use her pool effectively, you need to have certain knowledge about kiting route, which total newbies might not have. Otherwise, her skill gives you nothing but a speed boost, which is quite wasted. For starters, you would think hunters that relies on spamming skill is easier to use than those that relies on knowledge about the game.
Legit that’s my strategy, I have never placed my harpoon anywhere specific
Geisha is so easy that I'm eating pallets with each step I make.
HI SGUSHENKA HUGE FAN HEREEE
Hunters should double camp and play their mains
Right?
5:03 when he was first released he never had the flame gimmick but after power creep as people call it leo fell super far behind other hunters so they gave him phantoms and flames the only problem now is he got so complex (phantom placement enraging puppets double hit ETC) after that as most new players have no idea how that power works
I am still waiting for him to get his "adjustment"!
@@BBlackPhoenix was that the puppet swing buff where it shows a line when he teleports that can hit a survivor?
@@Toylawyer That change wouldn't change much to be honest, because he can already do that with red puppet. The biggest reason why he is weak is more related to his first containment because if you see the highest ranked Hell Embers, his chase with presence is unironically decent with red puppet tricks, and as we all know his camp is pretty good too.
@@clowntown8569 yeah every leo got confused on that, also it tells you where he is going so it’s a nerf to pros as it’s super easy to dodge it cus of the glowing line, if they want to buff leo Just make the trick official and give it to both as it is
my first main was dream witch because I heard that she was the best hunter and I loved that you could have 5 hunters so instead of a 1v4 it was a 5v4
when i first started the game (like a year and a half ago) my first hunter was wu chang and he was very op and easy to understand, but since then he’s been nerfed and isn’t very good anymore but he’s still good for beginners, my second hunter i learned to use was geisha before her buffs she was interesting to say the least her hit speed was very slow and you couldn’t use butterflies during soul departure but she was still very fun to me! my third hunter and now my main was bloody queen and i instantly fell in love i thought her abilities where so cool and they still are! too bad in one of the matches i played i got called trash by a thief user out of all survivors, bet if i met them again i would definitely give them a taste of their own medicine 💀
You've played some good hunters then! I play a little of everything nowadays.
@@BBlackPhoenix fair enough i always say its better to main a couple of hunters in case you get board or you main character gets banned in rank, also the more the merrier in my opinion 😁
When i started playing the game i got into Antonio directly, because of his design but i really loved his gameplay. And when i introduced the game to my 7y sister i made her try Jack instead of Leo because i thought it would have been less complicated and she could use directly the skill (despite you have to calculate where the foggy need to hit). Now i think Nightmare is very good to start with
7:50 and yeah, phillipe is hard to master that’s why the badge seems easy to have but he is map dependant and his hitbox is very special
wu chang was my first and is my current main
i love his design so much and his ability to teleport is amazing for map pressure and mobility
but as you said, in early game he's incredibly weak and "bullyiable", which is why I bring insolence w him
when I started the game back in 2019 I was OBSESSED with og Geisha (pre-buttefly)- until I realized her hitbox was god awful and she was so easy to kite as I climbed hunter tiers. Nowadays I main nightmare and although Ik her buff did her a great service, I’ve never looked back- but she will always have a special place in my heart 💕
My first main I picked up was actual Photographer, since his abilities looked interesting, but I eventually switched to Evil Reptilian since you can't play Photographer in 2v8s.
My first hunter was ripper and I played him so much (I've played violinist and wu chang quite a lot), then I started to use nightmare and now luchino, I just think he's fun and I'm enjoying. The only problem I have with luchino and ripper are the short hitbox, specially because my ping is bad and I lag often :')
Fr they should buff Luchino’s hitbox, I love using him but I’ve had so many moments where it costed me a lot
I always watched your videos for persona builds a d you were the one that made me interested in idv. My first main was dream witch and she still is . I had seen your videos and i wanted to make my self start with her even tho i was struggling. After an hour or so of watching your vids to guide me i got the hang of it and became unstoppable! You are very inspiring ❤
My favorite part about Geisha is her skill ceiling is extremely high, she may be an easy hunter to use but she can go a very long way to when you master her, even if it is a little difficult to
I think almost all hunters are like that
Leo puppet teleport trick
Antonio sniping
Axe boy fireball dps
Photographer spawn kill
It's pretty cool tho since there are more survs than hunters so using one hunter would take months to master
I am new to the game and just started 1 day ago. I have not even finished the tutorial yet but I wanted to get an understanding of all the characters first. I wanted to Main Dream Witch but thanks to your video, I did not tread on the path of total failure. I think I do want to main her eventually but I should start with geisha first. Thank you!
Ok I agree with a lot of these but luchino was the first hunter I bought as a new player who used mobile- lol idk if it helped or hurt me because I figured out his camping potential pretty quickly so I was scary against new players, but his first kite is weak and is hard if you can’t down a surv quickly.
I think the terrible choice for beginners ones are the best for pros sure their ability’s are difficult but once you have had much experience you can use them and their op
Oya, I still remember beginning me wanting to main leo because it looked cool to main a free hunter who probably no one wanted to use, then I got kited by an Eli and never touched hunter again untill I've bought Geisha and Joseph. Now I'm Joseph main and I can say that he's trully powerful, there is a small need to chase survivors if you know how to use the camera and the attack recovery speed well❤
When I got into IDV one of the first hunters I got was Axe boy, he has fantastic utility like you said, going for that S badge
Thank you so much for this video, now I know what's the better hunters now
Best for beginners, yes! Ha!
My first Hunter was Dream Witch..
*Emotional damage*
Pretty sure violetta was so excited to be mentioned she spinned a web straight into the camera lense
I've been playing since before his release, but I found Night Watch to be pretty good as a beginner to hunter, his slowing and suck abilities are useful and he's strong
After a mental break down from Playing lizard and constantly losing (cause if it takes you more than 30s to down a survivor you're practically dead), i started playing game keeper.
He does get cipher rushed like hell.. but he's a good tie maker, he has the unique ability of preventing gate escape, whether with the hook or the trap. I must say, if feels good seeing survivors think twice before they gate dance 😆
I feel like sculptor is one of the harder hunters to use especially as a beginner (I’ve only been playing the game for a month and just trialed her yesterday cause I really wanted to use her for rank since ppl keep banning Joseph) because of her sculpture placement. You have to predict the survs movements and place while chasing and avoiding obstacles because her sculptures can pass throw objects. Her first ability through presence is also hard to use because you can’t gauge how far it goes at point if trying to throw through buildings, the glowing circle goes away very quickly and you just blind shoot not knowing fully where it will land.
Hello! Wu Chang main here! Now i wanna suggest a trait that will help you out so much when you get close to middle to end game, insolence will be your best friend. You get presence much faster than usual making it easier to give you an advantage during matches!
Can you give me good build for Wu Chang?
@@nagitoikanman1129 Of Course!
@@fishboy_ofishal I Iove how he says this and then never replies again lmao
I just recently entered the game and used my 1 day usage pass on Bloody Queen, and after seeing so many videos of how to play in the game I didn't had a tough time using her, but I'm sad that I won't get enough fragments to get Madame Bella when she comes back in this anniversary... my favorite skin of the game and why I want to master Bloody Queen
Awesome, great video!
I am so grateful for this video. I main Ann now and it's so easy to play as her. I hope, when the hunter Norton releases, he will have same stun mechanics as her
My previous main is Photographer, I still play him sometimes, but he's too hard on a big maps.
Hell ember is the first character you get in the game because he was super simple when he came out. Place dummy’s and teleport to them when alerted
but he has an insane mechanic with the red puppet hit teleport
wowww thanks for the tips this really helps me for a beginner...
Let's talk about Soulweaver (as a top40 soulweaver). Whenever a hunter is considered "high tier power" and doesn't actually see much play, it's because they're hard. I feel like telling someone to "just place webs" is kinda like saying with bonbon to "just place bombs," she has a lot going on:
- There is web management to not burnout webs before hits, because otherwise you are the slowest hunter in the game and a lot of actions reset her to this slow speed. Managing webs can be especially difficult against survivors that take more than 2 hits. (General tip, don't place webs until you know you can get a hit on the first survivor at the start of the game.)
- Map knowledge, some places on maps you can place webs, some you can't. Even placing webs while moving fast can be difficult. Knowing routes and cutting them off can be hard. She is also not good on all maps, and beginners would do better with a hunter that's not so map dependent.
- Tricks, oh so many tricks. Her abilities are simple on the surface, but how you weave them together can be really hard and there are some wild and minute interactions. When to cocoon or not, double web at full presence, and tricks go on and on. (General tip, webshot someone twice and then basic hit them so they don't get any hit speed) (General tip 2, don't basic hit if cipher is about to pop, you want to down with a web so there's no attack recovery and therefore no borrowed time chase)
A continuation on some other survivor notes:
- Joseph requires knowledge of a lot of spawns to play well, and doesn't teach basic hunting if players focus on photo copies. He messes with the game enough to get some easy wins though as survivors have to figure out what photo collapse affects.
- Naiad is pretty easy early if just using her for her movement and fast basic hit and while her water is hard to master, it's not that tough to figure out to make a circle.
- Undead has charge management and the slam attack, but is not hard to use otherwise. His hitbox is wonky as he's too tall and you need to aim downward to hit survivors.
- I recommend Axe Boy pretty highly for learning, he has some simplicity and complexity that teaches you more about the game while being decent on all maps and learning chase, harass, and camping.
When I first started playing hunter I was doing research on what are the best hunters, and eventually before everyone else Bloody Queen caught my eye mainly bc of her being really pretty and her skills being good you can practice in practice mode! Which helps alot. Then Next I got Wu change mainly bc of his teleportation and skills, which is really useful for end game. Lastly since I got bored or well tired of my main hunters (sorry Mary and Wu 😔), I went to try and buy hunters that was fun to use if you played survivor on the long run based on my experience is Naiad, Geisha and Axe boy since you're most likely to guess and mind game them as hunters. But man do I miss playing Idv it's been a year now lol, and started playing it around 2020
When I started playing idv,it was The nightmare event,he was my first Hunter that I got
You sound like you know how to play Nightmare, so I’m wondering, is he worth buying?
@@Plant3849 He's not a meta Hunter like sculptor or BQ, but he's good,I love Him
I want to say in my opinion with experience with these hunters should be at the bottom is wax artist, Joseph, and smiley face since the don't have good map control or just hard to use for beginners
My first main was photographer, i still play him until this day but i main more geisha, my second main was Mary and i got the hang of her abbilities really fast.
I'm going to be a C geisha instead of because i can't rank that much as before.
when i started idv my very first character main was scultpor...then after a bit i switched to smiley and now hes my main
What are Your opinion on Nightwatch, Hermit and Opera Singer for beginners?
I started playing idv on the first day of lockdown since my sister told me to, my first hunter main was ripper because my sister gifted me his count banquet skin and I FELL IN LOVE
Also i love sniping survs who cant kite ripper lol
Eventough Bane is very easy to use I love playing him its so nice to pull survivors while they are vaulting or just running.I use him in rank and win very often.
I started out with Joseph and now I don't know how to chase/control cipher rush with other hunters 😭
I used to main DW, and was scary good at it. I then took a break and couldn't pick her back up ;-;
Now I play Robbie.
To me i feel like hell ember is easier than evil reptilian, you need to know which walls and obstacles you can jump over and when to stomp down, but for leo its just putting down teleporters and clones
when I started idv I was in look for a main but not based of skills but based of looks and ofc geisha was the one for me ps.I still main her
I agree with the geisha xD I’ve been playing her for 3yrs after I stopped surviving
Considering for new players, some are true like Geisha some ah well kinda depends on your talent like Broken Wheel. And how you able to play on pc version, mine one just pop out the logo and nothing happens.
After a year of uploading this video, is your opinion about the hunters still the same? In what category would you put new hunters like Ivy Ithaqua or Fools Gold?
When i started playing idv i mained dw i just loved how she can pressure survs lol
I've had the game downloaded for months, but always played dbd over it. Found out I can play in browser on school laptop, and damn I struggled. Got a tie at the end.
Not gonna lie, my first hunter that I used on my first match as a hunter, is Naiad. I don't even know how to play the other hunters and Naiad at first. But for some reason, I eliminate 4 survivors in one game and by now I main her
Which hunter should i buy for the first time? I'm a beginner and I currently use geisha and I often win with her but idk who to buy now though, I do often go for pretty characters which is a bad habit of mine
Depends heavily on what style of gameplay you like. I recommend you try all the hunters out in Single Training mode in Customs!
Clerk is most like 2 month release and i Cant even use him properly even with bot lol,her mechanic is hard to understand
I’ve only played her for about 3 days and I got way better. I think you can too if you keep practicing.
Clerk is easy (in mobile) but she's survivor dependant. If survivor good she lose if dumb she win
@@asahi5912 not necessarily, walk through pallets to get a free hit if recording, and stand inside pallet so survivors stun her to get a recording. Record yourself hitting, destroying pallets, and vaulting windows, but you’ll have to keep in mind the 1 second delay. Overall, she can do some things herself, but not all of them. In some cases anyway, the survivors will have to throw the pallet. (Ex: Right in front of open exit gate, in front of rocket chair and the survivor is hurt.) Then you’ll get a free recording.
Breaking Wheel isn't difficult to understand, but difficult to master. When starting out, you'll typically be at a skill level of about 70% max potential, but mastering wheel just takes so long. Having to perfect your movement is PAINFUL, but SOOOOO worth it.
Look mad I agree with you and all bit not with the Joseph one like Joseph isn't easy you have to know your maps so specifically and much much more
When I start to play idv, I get Rosemary(Naiad A Tier) Skin and I don't even know what her skill does? So I buy her with jigsaw and practice her, now I'm pro at her now :>
So where do you put fools gold?
identity v difficulty thing isint always right about characters: i stayed so long away from BQ cuz i thought she would be hard to play
When i joined IDV I emidietly wanted to play hunter because before I always watched DBD vids as killer, and I saw geisha, then I already loved her and started understanding her abilities and realized she was similar to nurse and kind of has a similarity to spirit, my 2 fav dbd killers, and when I played geisha in lower tiers most of the Matches were a win win for me
My First Hunter Is Geisha Cause Her Skill Is Easy To Learn But I Hate Her Hit Box I Always Eats Pallet Which I hate it + I Hate When Someone is Looping in Red Church There was Area There That You Can loop the hunter
Pls do a best survivors video
I dont think polun is that hard to play, i picked him just knowing the basics and it wasnt that bad
When i was a beginner i play as bloody queen but after i realized the mirror i practice and win most of the Time
The moment when Leo and Grace are both of my mains and Leo is my main since my first plays 💀
I knew it,Geisha is too OP
Ive observed survivors panic when they see meow meow 😭
So yeah it's a great pick
What about night watch?
mad eyes was the first hunter I started maining long term ever since 2020 when I return back to IDV to play more seriously lol, definitely not suitable for beginner
I remember starting IDV and maining Leo back in season 13 (because free double teleport sounded good) and getting to late rank croc but never figured out how to give flames to the dolls on pc and I suffered playing rank matches with my only damage dealer was me or sometimes my flame body till I saw that it had the button input below the doll icon that blended with the icon making it almost invisible lmao. I moved onto maining Luchino and Nightmare
I’m new(second day of playing) and geisha’s playstyle was super easy just hit with butterfly and zooooom bang
Tbh I dont think michiko is good for beginners since her hitbox is TRASH its really short u have to get rlly close to the survivor to hit and most survivors can counter her like enchantress and the fact that the survivors can take her butterflies and use them for their own advantage so to me shes a bad choice But I agree with every u said abt the other hunters
Sadly Yidhra was the first hunter i bought
Edit: I had another account and my first hunter is now mad eyes. I became an A badge with him.
Ha! Well you challenged yourself!
Should i practice michiko, orphius(hunter), luchino(survivor) or feona
Nightmare
@@Cris-sq9ff ok
I need help deciding
I would agree with you on Anne. She can lock her cat onto a surv and makes it easier for players to chase them. And her camp is good. It could help them camp better and make it easier for them to eliminate survs.
She was also my first Hunter.😎
I am a beginner of idv, and before I downloaded it I watched this vid, the first hunter I tries (cause at that time all Hunters and Survivors are free) is Gamekeeper, and I can't even hit a single one cause of the lags 😂😂😂😂
Lags is super common here and green ping is a myth
Is it weird that I'm starting to play as hunter at 42lvl and I SUCK at it?
I’m playing this game since 9th season, why am I watching this
dream witch is actually kinda easy to learn
Wu Chang is A????????????
Btw I am a beginner hunter and using hell ember, smiley face and Wu Chang
The reason people always say Nightmare is op is because in low tier he is. Survivors will just vault in front of you and throw pallets down as you swing. He still needs a major buff though cause overall he’s the worst hunter in the game, this is coming from an S Badge Nightmare
I agree lol (B badge nightmare) I love playing him but man is he manageable
i feel like Naiad is easier than bloody queen imo💀
First main was joesph :) I regret nothing.
Same here 😁. He was even the reason i found out about idv. I still dont know if that was a blessing or a curse...
@@Lanex1911 of course thats a curse lol
For me nightmare it is
-My first main was Geisha, I fell in love with her instantly. But once I got to higher tier (In rank), people started banning her more and more. I very unfortunately stopped playing her.
-Wu chang was my second main, Its very fun playing him. I fell in love after trying him out in rank. I crashed after putting a doctor on a rocket chair. Once I joined back, there were 1 cipher left. I was close to getting full presence. In the end, I managed to get a 3 survivor elimination. The thing is he doesn't get banned in rank too often, which makes me very happy :] ( I actually mained him for his design LMAO)
Yo comencé a jugar con la Dream witch XD
Mad eye not only hard to use but he useless right now survivor can easily drain his energy machine feels sad for burke
Here is some liz-agna
*gives some liz-agna* fresh from the manor… not from luchino…
Smh
@@BBlackPhoenix hehe…
Looks like I’ve been a beginner for two years.
Lol
everybody should use feaster thank you goodbye
geisha is almost a nurse from dbd
Just started this Game.. And Realised all Killers are good Killers if You camp.
Bro if ripper easy than I am a Santa Claus☠️
So... I literally main only hunters for new players
💀
Ann and gamekeeper higher than nightmare?
Nightmare is easy to kite with the power of wall hugging
@@smugofbishamonten1447 beginners won't know how to kite him
😅i thought that bon bon and wax artist is the easiest hunters lol
