Oh nevermind, it is coming from Daly City. You had my train operator, who operates the SF/Daly City I took at 8:20am a few times I missed my 8:05am train. I also rode back with him to Downtown SF on a Fremont train on my way home after my last final.
I know this is old. But as a kid I never knew what that humming noise was. What is it? Also, where can I learn the difference between A and B cars? Or even, understanding BART at a more "not just a person who takes a train an doesn't know anything on how it works" type level?
It’s the traction motors that are causing the hum. And the differences between the A and B cars are that A cars are cab ends and B cars are non cab end sets
C cars have the old Westington DC motors, which cause the buzzing sounds. The A and B cars used to use these motors until they were rehabed by ADTranz. They received new AC motors which resulted in these Westinghouse motors being used as the C car motors. That's why C cars have the humming while the A and B cars have the whining noises. Also A cars have the aerodynamic nose while the B car is in the middle.
@MychaelHall24 9 car is better IMHO. I don't care either way. This year I haven't taken any 10 car trains on my morning or evening commute. Only 9 or 8

This is a C car, these cars make buzzing sounds whenever they accelerate or decelarate
