- This session was about making sure she came straight up and back down, eventually adding a siding bow to the mix once she got better at doing it from the corner. As you can see by the final approximation, she made great progress within a few minutes!

3:15 "I'm gonna jump! I'm gonna jump! I'm gonna... *blep*"
I remember seeing her at six flags in 2010 and the trainers were so mean to her. She was agitated and refused to do tricks so they yelled at her and sent her on a "time out". She looked totally underweight and unhappy. We stayed after the show to watch her and she was playing with a leaf that fell into the pool. Her situation was very upsetting to see.
E. Pontiki I agree with you
it’s good they moved her but she’ll be kind of happier in SWT
E. Pontiki thats really sad :(
Poor baby😢😔 they need to be freed and not n a damn small pool😡
Shouka was trained for waterwork at Marineland before she moved to Six Flags. It was only sparingly in her training afterwards, quite a small portion of her entire Six Flags career for sure. It wasn't a part of the shows she performed in either park. Compared to the amount of waterwork training most SeaWorld whales have had, I guess she's certainly less experienced. I wouldn't call it inexperienced, though. But that's just me ;-)
Bas W I trust sea world before I trust any other park
Bless. So nice to see how my favorite orca is doing. Thanks for the upload :)
really beautiful I love orcas!
Go. Shouka go
Shouka is one of my favorites next to Corky at San Diego. She did beautifully. :) I wonder what they needed the urine sample for. I noticed they did that. Are they thinking of breeding her next? That would be awesome. I think she'd make a great mother. :) Especially if Corky is there to help her along.
Yeah, you can really see how much progress she made! I've been waiting for a new aerial from her for a long time. As much as I want her to be a mother, it appears they have recently been checking on her kidneys. Ultrasounds and urine samples are a few ways to do that.
Oh! Yeah that would be a reason for a urine sample. I hope she'll be alright. I would cry if something happened to her. :( Anyway, yes, it never ceases to amaze me at how well she's been doing. She seem happier with other to play with. :) Question: I'm sure you've seen the vid seaworld put out when Kalia had her baby. I noticed not only Kasatka and Makani, but another in there with her. You think it could be Shouka? You know to get her familiar with labor, birth, bringing the baby up for its first breath etc when they do decided to breed her.
Christina Wiesemann She seems fine and those are important behaviors to maintain anyway. But the ultrasound I saw in March was of her kidneys and chances are that's what the urine samples this year have been about to. For the video of Kalia giving birth, the fourth whale was Nakai. I don't think he was supposed to be in there since males have no place in raising calevs and was promptly separated after Kalia delivered. Last time I checked, Kalia and the baby have met all the females and have not been reintroduced to Nakai yet.
EchoBeluga Ah ok. Yeah I know about the mature males stressing new/experienced moms after delivering. Well either way glad Shouka is doing well. Her story gives such hope. Ten yrs alone in a much smaller tank, then moving to SeaWorld has done nothing but good for her. I've seen the trainers get in the water with her, in the med pool of course, as well as ride on top of her. She handled it like a pro. :) Did they even do that a DK? I'm sorry if I'm taking up your time, I just have so many questions, but I don't want to be a bother. Haha.
Christina Wiesemann I'm not sure if it's more about that than the fact that he got in the way and was a threat to the baby's wellbeing, but either way males are useless or worse to moms and babies. They did a little bit of waterworks with her at Six Flags but she is still one of the more inexperienced waterwork whales at SeaWorld. I think they started it up with her and then stopped due to not having enough staff for it.
coisa mas linda amo
Lovet.❤️😍😊💕😘😁👍👌😃😀
Honestly Orkid is my favorite
peach orkids side spin bows corkscrews and her v spins
nos la quitaron de vallejo California sin duda la orca mas bonita shouka
Really when they scrab her back I prayed they fall both in the water
Sema Şaka If they fell in the water, Shouka is trained to put them back on the stage :)
Sema Şaka and also I don’t think Shouka has never tried to hurt a trainer, and plus trainers do that to all the whales :) do your research
from 3:15 to 3:18 she did the wrong trick, well not wrong she didn't jump.
DiamondOrca so what’s the problem?
😔 life
so killer whale training is essentially Pavlovs dog?
There's some tools used that are classically conditioned (like the auditory bridge used to communicate to them when they've done the correct behavior and whento expect a reward) but most behaviors are trained using operant conditioning and shaping as you can see here.
Who's the male trainer?
John Stewart
Increíble
Pero q hagan saltar un animal de ese tamaño a cuenta peces me parece cruel
Pero sin duda es bellisima la orca
Sad
I don't want to criticize any of your video, as i enjoy watching what those orcas are becoming. My only question is why you seem to be hoping for those orcas to have babies? I'm not sure reproducing in captivity is the best way to stop captivity, as they will continue to be more orcas in captivity. I don't really understand the "I want her to be a mother" attitude toward those animal. They should have the right to choose by themselves. Why are you encouraging that attitude? Are you a pro-captivity? If so I respect your opinion, but put yourself in the skin of those animal, would you like to get impregnated and to raise your calf in these condition?
anyway, thank for the vid. I prefer watching videos than encouraging that non-sense industry.
It's more so that orca in particular, Shouka, because she used to live in a situation where she never would have had the chance to reproduce. Her life situation improved a lot upon arriving to SeaWorld, where she has a lot more staff caring for her and a pod of orcas to socialize with, which is a testament to the quality of care given to orcas at Seaworld. Now that she lives in a pod of orcas, she does have a choice of whether or not she gets pregnant and many are hoping she does. She isn't really trained for AI and she chooses to mate with the male orcas in her pod, so if she becomes pregnant then that is her right. Also, motherhood is a natural behavior in mammals and I feel like it's a part of orcas growing up. Kalia's personality changed a lot since she became an older sister and a mother. I try not to speak for SeaWorld's orcas like you do for risk of anthropomorphizing, but their eager participation in training sessions and shows, interactions with caregivers and each other, and their environment implies that they are happy and healthy. Just because you think they are suffering or don't want to breed in captivity doesn't mean that they really are.
So if that orca decides to get impregnated by a male in the so called pod would that be a problem with what the person is saying. That means the orca wants to reproduce if it naturally happened
You just basically guessed that she was anti.
Poor thing :(
