I am a 26 year old mother and JUST started longboarding a few weeks ago. Got a retrospec and LOVE IT. I ride with my son. He uses his retrospec balance bike he's 3 😂
My best friend started longboarding after i talked her into it and i just bought my new board and these videos really do help me learn new things about longboarding! She currently have a pintail board and i'm getting a dancer.
Got my first longboard two weeks ago and I started practicing in my apartment. And i got cocky, so on saturday i went on my first ride outside my only safety gear was a lether jacket and one glove. it went pretty good but then i came to a small hill with a long turn at the end. And in my mind i was like "cool a bit of speed" but in the end of the hill it was a shit ton of Gravel. So when i go turn a bit i just fly of looking like fucking palpatine doing the" it's treason then" spin . Skined my knee real bad but not more then that. That fall got me more excited for longboarding but in the future i probly use more safety gear.
Me riding my longboard down the street * a car comes down the street * I didn’t have enough time to go to the other side so popped up my tail and bent down to grab it, *and tripped over it, ate shit, and my board went flying into the woods*
Bought a longboard last weekend, my boyfriend got me into it! It's funny how I recognize myself in all of these beginner things which are actually big don'ts 😂
I recently bought my first Longboard, and this is my first time on a board (I'm 33 years old by the way) and I really enjoy to learn how to push, carve and brake. thanks to your tips @Hans Wouters I have advanced a little more. Greets from Chile
oure body is symetrical so why isnt the standar to ride bouthe thing equaly much depending on situation and just forget about the "push mongo" thing, it just sounds like a stupid thing to get all hung upp about...
I’ve been pushing mongo since 1987. It just made sense when I started. My neighborhood had lots of gravel on the roads and if you push regular and hit a rock you fall head first over the nose of your board. If you push mongo, the board pops over the rock like a small bump and you continue rolling on your way.
It’s always been my dream to ride a longboard and this year I am finally going to start this goal, yeah I’m not super duper young but I don’t mind, seeing these videos inspire me so much ☺️❤️
UA-cam recommends one longboarding video... 3 days later I've just gone down a rabbit hole of watching nothing but longboard related vids! I've got a penny board which I'm trying to practice on (I've never skated in my life) but watching long boarders cruising down these highways with little care in the world is so mesmerising and inspiring.
I just buy my first skateboard today I’m so excited I’m 26 btw sometimes i feel like it’s too late to skateboarding but I love it so much 🌞 . Thanks ♥️
You know, I'm also 26 and I just bought a board today. You aren't too late, there's more of us getting started now at this age than you or I realize. You got this!
Haha I feel this! I'm 33 and got myself a used pintail to learn with. Used to skate when I was a kid but having to relearn the balance thing is tough haha. Plus there's nothing to "pop" with a pintail so it's a struggle. Good in ya fellow old timer lol we got this
Loving the vid! Thanks for all the tips and tricks. I'm 36 and a beginner skater, since my 5 yr old son wants to skate. Appreciate the safety section, I'm fully padded up to encourage my son to do it as well. Keep the good content coming! 🤜🏾
I push mongo...and I proudly do so. If you can do 45+MPH when you are my age and want to poke fun...then and only then I just might wail like a baby. ;-)
Pushing mongo have one disadvantage in my opinion : it's harder to learn foot-break because you need to do it with your front foot on the board, but if you push mongo, you will not feel confortable with that ! But it's just my opinion
Pushing Mongo is less stable because most of your body weight is on the back truck so your board turns more like a fork lift than like a car while pushing. If you push hard and hit a crack on pavement or a rock there is a higher chance you loose control over your board and fall or even worse make your friends fall by sending your board in their way.
I don’t usually comment on videos but I feel like I need to on this one. I longboarded as a kid in the 90s but have spent almost no time on a board until last year. Could carve and do a sloppy switch but that was about it. This video helped me a ton find more fun and interesting ways to ride even though I’m in my 30s and unlikely to get super good. Thanks for the info and the positive attitude!
I'm absolutely grateful for those tips, the curbs gave me quite some trouble and it's nice having some advice on this. I got one additional question though, I've been longboarding now the past few months and I take great pleasure in it but unfortunately my pushing foot hurts quite a bit from time to time, it feels like a sprained ankle of some sorts. I read a bit about it and apparently it depends on the shoes that you wear, I mostly wear converse because I do not like skateshoes all that much. Do you have any advice on this or am I doing something wrong with the movement? Greetings from Luxembourg!
As somebody who skated from the early 2000's to all about 2008, I just got a longboard three days ago. I'm not completely new to this, but man was I in for a revelation when I realized I was going really fast down hill my first day and the board was at least an inch higher than I remember being when I was younger. The only thing that saved me was the big patch of grass at the end.
If you don’t want to feel self conscious of wearing safety gear at least wear wrist pads because they’re barley visible and stopped me from breaking my wrist twice
Love it Hans, great positive vib' & very diplomatic on them "rules". Personally, I'm in the do what works for your school. I skated a bright yellow plastic cruiser in the 70's & I came back to it on a longboard a couple of years back as a fun way to commute. I'm now in my 50's. I just chucked the board on the floor the first day & rode & pushed as it happened...so Mongo ha ha 🤣 Pleased to discover that I've naturally learnt to hide the fact as you suggested by pushing with my back foot in the middle & then repositioning when I hop on. The other big "nul" thing I do is spend way too much time trying not to grind chunks out of my board, so I do pick mine up as opposed to flipping it up off the tail(s) just to avoid grinding the wood down. I'm going to compromise & make some tail protectors & get into it. Maybe I'll even trying pushing front foot 😅 Cheers, Dave (Paris area, France).
Great video. Another tip is to watch Hans other videos on learning how to longboard dance. I started longboard dancing two weeks after I got my first board and it really helped with my balance and confidence on my board. Keep it up Hans!
I've been thinking about skating for the past week now and longboarding sounds like the right board for me. This video helped me a lot though i still don't have a board yet but thank you :)

I started watching you a while ago just to understand the basics and stuff and now i ordered a board to train and stuff😁 I just wanna say thx for making these vids! It really helped me a lot!
Good work, solid video. As to your #5, "mall grabbing", I personally stopped doing that because when/if you do enough grinding on your trucks it can lead to metal slivers constantly going into your hands from the rough metal surface. Was always a practical thing for me and mine. Hope it helps. Keep up the good work. 🤙🤙

I’ve since bought 6 esk8 boards and 4 longboards. cruiser, free ride drop through, surf skate and DH. i wish i found all this many years ago but i’m making up for it now. i am out there every day. stuff is thrilling
Hi Hans, this tips are really nice, and the one about safety, is really important. I posted a comment on another video you posted in october, and i am going to repeat it again. I already saw most of your videos but none of them helps us to learn how to fall. I think that would be an interesting subject for one of your videos. Your advice is really helpfull in everything regarding skating in general and longboarding in particular. And most beginners, like me, don´t know how to fall, and might get discouraged, when this kind of shit happens. I already broke my front teeth, and 4 fingers. Looking forward to ear your advice on that. Thanks. Hugs from Portugal
+lina bras hi ! Thanks for the comment. I've been wanting to do that one for a long time but it's hard to make, since I want to cover everything and it needs to be good. Don't wanna just wing it and see what comes out. So that's why it's been postponed, I'm often just too insecure to talk about such an important matter, if that makes any sense. Like 'if I mess that one up, pple might get hurt' and 'who am I to tell those people about safety, I'm not a pro safety advisor'
Hans Wouters , I know you are not. But your experience and advice is precious, like in all the tips you already gave about other subjects regarding longboarding. You explain things very efficiently. In october I almost broke my front teeth. This month, broke 4 fingers. I cant work now, cause I am a dentist and have to use my hands. For me it's very difficult considering stoping longboarding, cause I really love it. It makes feel free. I have to change my board cause e it's heavy, not stable enough and the lenght is not enough to make freestyle dancing, but I don't feel safe anymore. So, this video would be helpfull for me . Thank u so much for your reply :)
Thx, i am 56 now and i decided to start longboarding now after i ride a Scooter since 5 Years now. your tips will help a lot. And i like the tip with the social media. I will do that and tomorrow i go and by me Safety Gear.

i started riding in july of 2021 and i fell off everytime, until i started practicing pushing in grass, i rode it on the road, and i had my balance, look at me now! I'm pretty good at it now!
I work nights and got my first board last night before my shift, accidently bombed two hills I didn't think were that steep on the way there but ended up catching the bus halfway. Only wiped down once when I stepped to far back on the board, I rode all the way home and cruised the streets around my house until morning traffic. My legs are killing me, but its so fun
About over half a year ago one of my friends from school (We were in 7th grade) and I wanted to hang out for the first time. We were pretty stoked to do it. We ended up hanging at his place and he put a longboard in my hand and we went out for a sweet ride. Now I did know what a longboard was but never really rode one. We cruised around his neighborhood and went down a hill. It was a hella lot of fun! He showed me a few tricks he could do. He could do a pivot, shove it, and he could jump switch and hippie jump. Haha, you're probably confused by those last two but come on man It's hard to jump up when you start skating. Anyway, I was really impressed and thought It was crazy that tricks were possible on a longboard! He also knew how to slide. He had a pair of gloves and let me try em out. I thought It was okay but the tricks looked hella fun! Since then I've been hanging out with him and we skate everytime! Jumping ahead to now, I got a longboard on sector9 .com about 2 weeks ago! I skate literaly EVERYDAY! Now I know how to pivot, fs pivot, ghostride, and can occasionally do a tiger claw! Although I am practicing my shove It's, tigerclaws, boneless fs 180's, and ghostride kick flips! I love skating, It's one of my passions but sadly my friend and also his other friends recently started to get way into downhill and sliding and they say freestyle and dancing are gay. Haha! I dont give a shit though. Its just that I feel alone now cause if I go to his house we get his other friends too and all they want to do is downhill. And when we do, they go all the way down the hill (cause there trucks are hella tight) so obviously, I jump off my board so I don't wobble my ass off and kill myself. They ask me why did I stop and all I say is "my trucks aren't tight man!" Its kind of sad now cause I feel there is no way to give anyone my stoke, except my mom. Haha! Anyway, I just wanted to share my longboard story and I dont know what to do about getting my stoke out so, if you have any tips please help! Love your vids they help me a ton Hans!!

+Dimon Ilyin haha! And thanks a lot, he's my hero for sure haha. Yeah like our friend insinuated , his music is strongly copyrighted. So it'll be demonetized for sure. Now a lot of my videos are demonetized and I don't really worry about that if it's worth it, but very often that also makes them non-watchable in a lot of countries/on mobile. So that's why :) BUT in my channel trailer I've used Till I Collapse. I just had to.... 😂👊

I just started longboarding within this week and after about 5 days I'm starting to finally improve and this video has helped me a lot I'm gonna get gear tomorrow so I can overcome the fear of falling wrong and feel more confident in myself to just enjoy myself and not worry
I am a 26 year old mother and JUST started longboarding a few weeks ago. Got a retrospec and LOVE IT. I ride with my son. He uses his retrospec balance bike he's 3 😂
Got that ten toes too! Love it!
I like how my mums roller derby put the subject of falling, "know how to do it right, because you ARE going to fall, so minimize injuries"
Me riding my longboard down the street
* a car comes down the street *
I didn’t have enough time to go to the other side so popped up my tail and bent down to grab it, *and tripped over it, ate shit, and my board went flying into the woods*
Same I’m planning to buy one
My friend rides mongo.. I think it's cute though lol regular is so boring 😂 jk but it's the only way I know how to ride
+Shelley Ziller hahaha good argument :') Have a good weekend Shelley!!
oure body is symetrical so why isnt the standar to ride bouthe thing equaly much depending on situation and just forget about the "push mongo" thing, it just sounds like a stupid thing to get all hung upp about...
Its all your mentality, skating is a mental sport
i ride normally but i wanna learn mongo
People keep staring me when I cruise around town with my longboard, is that normal or did I do something wrong?
You simply look boss and everybody is watching, wishing they could be you but they ain't you 👌👌👌
I have the same.. It feels so awkward but yeah... Just do it bro
Sometimes I think its just cause it makes a loud noise and surprises people so they stare. No bigs
You probably just look cool
You're not doing anything wrong it's just kinda what people do for some reason
Aye where the no broken bones gang at 💪🏽👌🏼
Ayyyeeee
👋
Now watch me jinx myself 🤣
@@tiffanyheilman6119 were here!
Heeya here!
Thanks ♥️
Do it anyways.
You know, I'm also 26 and I just bought a board today. You aren't too late, there's more of us getting started now at this age than you or I realize. You got this!
Steven Davis Thanks man I appreciate your wonderful words ♥️♥️
If you can do 45+MPH when you are my age and want to poke fun...then and only then I just might wail like a baby. ;-)
+Goofy Mongo hahaha hell yeah 😃👊
Pushing mongo have one disadvantage in my opinion : it's harder to learn foot-break because you need to do it with your front foot on the board, but if you push mongo, you will not feel confortable with that ! But it's just my opinion
that's a good point !
I learned footbreaking with my front foot
M.Echappées, vous ici 😉?
Pushing Mongo is less stable because most of your body
weight is on the back truck so your board turns more like a fork lift than like a car while pushing. If you push hard and hit a crack on pavement or a rock there is a higher chance you loose control over your board and fall or even worse make your friends fall by sending your board in their way.
I’m 37, I just bought a longboard haha! I’m Stoked, I want to fill the stoke!
I almost always wear a supportive ankle thing that's elastic and supports my ankles :) big hugs!
It’s all in the shoes, and support, I wear converse too
As somebody who skated from the early 2000's to all about 2008, I just got a longboard three days ago.
Can you do it to tutorial convincing your parents to buy you a longboard
Lubov Vihodet lol just order one
Lubov Vihodet protective parents :) ?
Thijs Knegt maybe just maybe
Thijs Knegt with what money?
Lubov Vihodet ur hard earned money from work :D
Love your beginner vids Hans. You're the sole reason so many more people are getting into freestyle!
+Donovan Vu oh snap thank you so much dude... 👊❤️
Your shirt looks litt by the way
+Maria Sinia oh thanks haha bought it with my girlfriend this summer. Probably my favorite shirt now
Great video. Another tip is to watch Hans other videos on learning how to longboard dance. I started longboard dancing two weeks after I got my first board and it really helped with my balance and confidence on my board. Keep it up Hans!
oh that's awesome hahaha thank you so much for the kind words!
I've really liked this video, I think that they are all usefull tips.
And obviously, keep practicing!!
+Anto thank you so much!
Nice profile pic man architects are a sick band 😎🤘🔥
ARCHITECTS!
I've been thinking about skating for the past week now and longboarding sounds like the right board for me. This video helped me a lot though i still don't have a board yet but thank you :)
6:50. Sorry, but if I'm teaching this to my friends would I have to say out loud, "this is how to pick up your board with dollar sign dollar sign Back Swag dollar sign dollar sign."
just ordered my own new longboard in 2020!!! thank u for the super helpful video
So hi
We're from the same country (belgium) and I started Longboarding like a month ago
So thanks for those tips :)
Haha loved this video!! Glad I have some tips to not look like such a newbie! I'm going to go practice picking up my board and jumping on ASAP! I have a group of 4 other girls that LB and now having friends to ride with is soo much better. It usually just takes one time of taking someone with me and they're hooked! Thanks for the video!
Never been one of the first to watch your vids and comment after the first minute this looks like Its gonna be a funny/helpful video as always Thx hans
+Maria Sinia haha that's cool! Thanks a lot Maria, have a good weekend!
Low key. Love this vid. I was out of long boarding / skateboarding for a year because of an injury. So this helped a lot. 😂❤️❤️
I just ordered a 41 inch longboard and I jus realized that it is gonna be almost chest height on me 😂🤭
I started watching you a while ago just to understand the basics and stuff and now i ordered a board to train and stuff😁
I just wanna say thx for making these vids! It really helped me a lot!
can you make a video on ways to pick up your boards please thanks
+Jasmin Y yeah for sure something I want to do!
I just taught my friend all these tricks and he asked how I knew them.
Me: There is this magical land...
Friend: What in the actual fuck are you talking about-
Me: ...It's this place I like to call.. UA-cam.
Thanks for making these videos! Good vibes bro
I got a long board for christmas and snow finaly is melting. Yay.
i never skated skateboard or snowboard. i waited til my 40s and got a e-skate longboard. I’ve since bought 6 esk8 boards and 4 longboards. cruiser, free ride drop through, surf skate and DH.
i wish i found all this many years ago but i’m making up for it now. i am out there every day. stuff is thrilling
I'm a beginner and have no idea what switch means...
Austin Hernandez same
@@LimeyFella wow ur really cool huh
kreepykillakrok lol he probably says something like this for every comment he finds with someone asking a question like this
Isn't switching up what foot is in front?
If you ride goofy (right foot forward) like me then you already ride switch. They call it switch bc since the normal way is left foot forward.
I am just now getting into longboarding and I'm have so much fun with it and this helps a lot!!
Very nice to read, how you enjoy your time on the board!
How would u pick up a pin tail longboard? The same way?
Good video Hans , fluid and calm explanation
I´ve been longboarding in the last 4/5 days and right now i m focusing on getting 100% with my mobility , drifting around , diferent speeds and i also use cars or really anything that can be an obstacle to slide by
Step one...Buy Crown Board
Step two...Be a pro
+YOYO JOJO hahaha step 3... Get a pidgey friend
Gotta gave a pidgey
those crown boards are gorgeous for sure. I like my rayne nemesis fairly well though!
Naw sector 9
Pumped for that 50k give away Hans Wouters
Will it be a board, some merch, or Pidgey?
+Jay Rice what would you prefer? 😂
I think we'd all prefer Pidgey ❤️
Hans Wouters
Crashed my board yesterday into a pole and split the nose sooo obviously Pidgey
Hahahahaha you guys are funny 😂😂😂
all
Hi Hans, I just bought a used jucker hawaii for restarting my longboard-story. Thank you for your video! It will help me a lot.
Glad I could help!
Once quoted by a very smart man.. “ tip number tree “
i started riding in july of 2021 and i fell off everytime, until i started practicing pushing in grass, i rode it on the road, and i had my balance, look at me now! I'm pretty good at it now!
Awesome video!! But I wanna know, How much inch is your longboard deck?
Love your vids they help me a ton Hans!!
idk how i missed this comment but yo, thanks for sharing your story, it's great to read tbh :)
also, you can be that friend to someone else maybe and get them to start longboarding? that's how i got a lot of longboard friends now :)
man you video have help become great at long boarding over the pass month, now i long board for across my city for hours trying to find all the downhills roads and smooth trails
I really need a tutorial on those pops. Hahaha, oh well, I'll just go out and break myself trying to figure it out.
Appreciate these tips, I used to love skateboarding as a kid and my boyfriend bought me my first longboard for xmas and I'm super excited to pick up this hobby again. :D
Hey I was going about 50kmph down a hill that I knew very well but I lost control and fell.i tore up my arm, legs and back and I lost my confidence and haven't ridden in 5 months any tips?
+lil pump Yoo damn that's nasty, well just take it easy man. Go out and have a relaxed sesh, as long as you get skating again you'll regain your confidence. And protection is super important in that matter too
Thanks man I will
I love this my friend! thank you so much for the info!
TIP #3 hmm well I don't have social media and I can care less about being seen online! Id skate for me and me only haha
Daniel Rivera exactly
I've been long boarding for over 6 years and these helped me:)
7:22 I always carry my board like that. When it gets annoying on my side.
But man I need a fkn crowns board.
But I live in Fkn cali
i know. closest dancer i've gotten to it is ehlers longboards. hopefully they'll start shipping to the us soon.
+K2_SLAYER_ same 😅 and sadlife... I really hope they can ship worldwide asap
Man thanks for your tips and tricks videos for beginners. I'm getting started at longboarding and I am Brazilian, do while learning about longboarding, I'm practicing my English as well.
I'm scared to get off and push when the board is already moving, I just started yesterday and haven't fallen yet😅
I can’t even get on the board without falling
I love your videos! The way you talk and explain and demonstrate how to longboard really helps me starting my longboard career. I'm always wearing safety gear and I feel more secure but I also know people are laughing about me (one half, the other half thinks I'm a pro actually xD)! Keep it going :)!
Aw thank you so much for the kind words! Just read a 'hate' comment and this one put a smile back on my face actually haha. Thank you for that. And I can relate haha wearing my helmet was sometimes uncomfortable but it really helps and you're doing it for yourself, not for those fuckers haha. Let that pro-half take over haha much respect!! big hugs from Belgium! ♥️
Is it just me who can't ride mongo? 😂
I can’t mol
sick video Hans! This is the type of video i would have really wanted to have when i started longboarding!
+Skater dye 7 thank you so much dude :)
Love that $$Back Swag$$ 😃
Just read in the description that you like Eminem so as me bro💪
So here's a question/suggestion.
Why don't you put one of his songs in a new video?
PD. Sorry if you already did and I didn't realize haha I subscribed like a month and some weeks ago
#demonetization :c
+Dimon Ilyin haha! And thanks a lot, he's my hero for sure haha. Yeah like our friend insinuated , his music is strongly copyrighted. So it'll be demonetized for sure. Now a lot of my videos are demonetized and I don't really worry about that if it's worth it, but very often that also makes them non-watchable in a lot of countries/on mobile. So that's why :) BUT in my channel trailer I've used Till I Collapse. I just had to.... 😂👊
Hans Wouters what's your thoughts on revival and what's your favorite album. I would say mmlp is his best and revival is probably his tenth best album
love this, thanks man! excited to try these out
